Is it true that the BBC is reporting that a Somalian guy failed to win the 5,000 metres. Don't be a *ing dick. He moved to the UK when he was eight.

Would not share his regard for McGregor at all but beyond that it reads well. Thought it was a very good piece. I like Paul Galvin , he likes pushing boundries and testing himself. Its very refreshing and good for young people to listen to people like him. On mc Gregor I think he admires the fact that McGregor believed in himself and against the odds went to America and walked the walk. Granted the circus around McGregor now is cringe worthy. He should get Philly to model a suit and cap from his new Peaky Blinders range!

Annascaultilidie Good question, really. Obviously, it’s not an original thought of my own but a very old saying – which is why I posted it in inverted commas. It doesn’t provide an answer and the fact that there is a question being asked would suggest that it is challenging the reader to provide their own rationale to the conundrum. Others might see it differently.

I should explain the context in which it first arose with me. On the occasion of the birth of my first child when I lived in Dublin – father from Kerry, mother from Wexford; son conceived in Dublin; born in Limerick Regional Maternity Hospital, Ennis Road, (Co. Clare). So you can understand why I haven’t come up with a satisfactory answer to the issue.

Now I read it again and while it says a child born to Kerry parents are Kerry no matter where they are born, it also suggests a child born in Kerry to non-Kerry parents may not be. I suggest let the kittens decide whether they are cats or scones.

Mayweather and Mc Gregor are as bad as each other , it's becoming a show of vulgarity by both and unfortunetly huge crowds are turning out to listen to them. Sport is only a side show as both these guys and their promoters make ridiculous amounts of money.

Scraping the barrel looking for content to consume and I somehow ended up on the AIB website reading a Q&A with Paul Geaney. I'm glad I did because I got a hearty guffaw out of this bit: aib.ie/gaa/blog/2017/08/paul_geaney_q&a

I have to say I think RTE are missing a trick big time by not having a preview show like "Thank GAA it's Friday" or something like this format on a night like this. It was a show that I always watched anyway, neutral or otherwise.
Their interview with Paddy Prendergast(ex-Mayo, exiled to Tralee) was on in 2014 I think. He completely debunked the whole curse story in Mayo.
I'm sure that a preview show would mean more ratings on Sunday also.
Seo sport is sadly missed.

There was an interview with the CEO of ONeills, the jersey people on the radio yesterday and while i didnt hear all of it, the following is the gist of was Brexit could mean to them...
They import the raw materials from some EU country, free of Customs to the facility in Strabane in Tyrone (UK). In strabane their factory spins it into cloth. The cloth is put on trucks and brought to Dublin where dye is added. It is sent back to Strabane then where is is cut. Back down it comes to Dublin for some other process which i forget and the end result is a county jersey.
Brexit could cause mayhem to the whole process due to possible customs delays and costs. At present a lot of the Strabane employees are from Donegal but they are paid in Sterling. The value of their wages has fallen 20% in the past year due to sterling;euro so they now buy all their messages in the ASDA in Strabane. ONeills have the option to buy 5 acres over the border in Donegal and they might have to move the entire operation out of Strabane and into Donegal if Brexit bites them hard.

That is what happens when you ask the masses! I think it's what happens when 'asking the masses' is used as a method to solve internal party rows with your public school/Old Boys club chums from Uni. Your chums can spread lies and propaganda and make up all sorts of rubbish because they think they won't win. When they do win, they haven't a clue what to do next and treat the whole thing as a big joke, ha, ha, to hell with your futures young people, dreadful Europeans and freeloading foreigners, to hell with you workers and businesses and Health Service! What a jolly jape, I've still got my trust fund so who actually cares....

This went over my head last week but just listening to Colm Parkinsons podcast now and I hear that John Sugrue has been appointed Laois manager.
John Evans got the Wicklow job.
Liam Kearns with Tipp.
Declan O Keeffe involved with Roscommon.
Any other Kerrymen involved in other counties next year?

Special Congress taking place at the end of September. www.gaa.ie/news/motions-for-gaa-special-congress/Some interesting motions relating to facilitating Club Games. These include reduction in days to allow club championship games to be played before inter county games. Also the free taking competition (after 2 additional periods of e/t) for Qualifiers. Proposed change in age groups for clubs to odd numbers.

There was an article in the Irish Independent by Larry Tompkins about proposed rule changes.
He said that the only proposed playing rule change at the moment to be put before special congress on the 30th September is that all kick outs have to pass the 20m line.
I have been thinking about this myself for a while as the dribble kick outs as I call them have been so prevalent these days and they are driving me mad and turning me off the game. Here is what I’d like to see changed with the kick outs and a few other changes as well
1) Bring all kick outs back to the edge of the same square (the kick outs were brought forward and a kicking tee introduced to encourage fellas to go long but that didn’t happen)
2) The ball must travel past the 20m line on the wings and past the D in the middle of the pitch
3) Ban the back pass to the goalie (if I receive the ball directly from the goalie I can’t pass it straight back to the goalie, if I receive the ball from an outfield player I still can pass to the goalie)
4) Handpasses – the only permitted hand pass is a forward one. Lateral and backwards handpasses result in a free to the other team. I love to see a defense splitting forward handpass into space. Rather than limiting the number of handpasses this would be easier to implement.
5) Free kicks off the ground – Can only score directly from frees when they are taken off the ground. Still permitted to take frees off the hand to attempt a pass to a team mate.
6) Black Card Change – instead of giving a player a black card award a penalty for these offences and the player gets a yellow card. The current punishment for black card offences is not harsh enough and acts as no deterrent. It makes a hero out of fellas, I can’t see most of the pull downs/subtle body checks that you see in the game at the moment occurring if resulted in a penalty for the opposition. This thing of having to be pulled down to the ground is a cod. Whether referees would have the courage to award all these penalties is another matter and would these offences just be ignored
7) All umpires must be fully qualified intercounty standard referees. One umpires primary focus is off the ball stuff and all are miked up to the ref and have the authority to bring it to the attention of the referee. What test does an intercounty umpire have to do on the rules of the game? I always wonder this when I see a referee consulting with them. I ask myself do these guys even know the rulebook.
8) Fellas are being mauled to ground left right and centre and nothing is being done about it. Not sure what rule to bring in about that but one needs to be brought in.
What do people think of my suggestions?

A quick point on the black card. I believe that it is encouraging the clothesline tackle which almost always results in a yellow card for the offender. It seemed to me that this type of tackle was more common during the championship this year. While everyone would like to see the rubbish for which the black card was invented eradicated, the safety of players has now potentially been put in danger. It is not a leap of the imagination to picture an instance where a player may be seriously harmed as a result of a black card inspired, yellow card challenge.
