The small counties that lose their two championship games like Leitrim, Fermanagh etc could benefit from playing in this competition. It would do Kerry juniors good too to play slightly better opposition Same should happen with the Intermediate hurling championship for the likes of Kerry Kildare etc

If they won't play in a B championship they will hardly play in a junior championship!

What i am saying is let them be in the sam maguire competition and as soon as the first 8 weak countirs lose their two games, let them join the junior champiknship.
The kerry hurlers used to play in and occasionally win the junior championship. It was a great competition at the time

Your match against Leitrim is being played as the curtain raiser to Cork v Mayo (Gaelic Grounds @ 3pm on Saturday week). Think I'll catch Clare v Tipp somewhere instead though! By the way, could somebody explain to me how Kilkenny are playing Meath in the other semi - www.gaa.ie/football/gaa-football-all-ireland-junior-championship/kilkenny-meath/1057469/I know Ulster don't take part, is this a different Kilkenny or something - the British reps?

Kilkenny take part in the British championship - this is the Kilkenny from Kilkenny in Leinster (if that makes any sense) I'm not sure how exactly it came about that they are playing in Britain as opposed to Leinster - I'd imagine the idea was the standard there was more suitable for them and to give them some couple of games as opposed to being one and done if they were taking part in the Leinster Junior championship. Meath will likely win that game handily enough - the record of the British teams has been poor enough the last few years.

Strange year for Leinster, 2 teams in junior football semis and probably no team in senior hurling semis.

London should be the top UK team but some of their better players don't take part, prefering to concentrate on their clubs instead.

Not the first time Kilkenny have done this. They took the British championship in 2015 as well. Lost to Mayo then in the semi final.

Kerry Juniors play Leitrim on Saturday in Limerick in their AI SF as they chase three in a row junior titles for the county - curtain raiser to the Mayo Cork Round 4A fixture.
Game throws in at 3pm - novel pairing and Leitrim not to be underestimated as they have beaten both Galway and Mayo to get this far.

Leitrim are having a great run and have done very well to get this far but I just can't see Kerry losing this. Roibeárd Ó Sé is having a great year playing well for An Ghaeltacht. If he keeps this form up I could see him getting a call from the Seniors next year. Likewise with Tomás Ó Sé both playing very well.
Michael Foley and Daniel O’Brien are both good defenders and have time on their side both good prospects. Good young talent on the bench. Liam Carey Ivan Parker Brandon Barrett and Thomas Hickey can all come in and change a game. I expect Kerry to go win this game and make the Final.

AFAIK 7/8 of that team that won aren't able to play now as they played with the senior team after

I see that the reserve keeps on the junior team has quit the panel . Very strange that you would walk away when a possible All-Ireland medal is only a couple of weeks away.
I wonder how Dublin keep their reserve keepers happy.

Christy Walsh is the manager of Kilkenny. He hurled for Kilmoyley and Kerry for about 15 years. He has been living in Kilkenny for many years. I think he managed a KK club to an intermediate all Ireland title....it might have been Bennettsbridge.

Of the four Semi Finalists, two (Leitrim and Kilkenny) have never won this competition (played since 1912 with a few gaps). Meath have won it five times (last win was 2003) and Kerry top the role of honour with 17 (joint top with Cork) - Kerry and Cork are the run away leaders on the role of honour with third held jointly at six titles by London and Dublin.

The standard of club football is very average in Meath, hard to see Meath being exceptional at this grade taking into account the positioning of their senior team at the moment. Picked from the junior and intermediate clubs also if I picked up correctly on a comment made by Colm O'Rourke on TSG recently.

Players that won a junior medal cant play the following year but are eligible again after that hence some of these players have medals from 2015

AFAIK Kerry, Cork, Mayo, Meath and Dublin (when they play in it) and maybe Galway are the only ones who cant use senior players. Not sure why Meath are one of them

Not sure where the eligibility rule comes from - some counties only select from players who play for non senior clubs, others pick with the exclsuion being they cannot have played for the senior county team.
The rule about the winning team being ineligible the following year is across all counties I believe.
