Well I made the ol jaunt to game. It's a poor Waterford outfit . Not much point analysing this one other that there is a better shape to the kerry line up that the Clare game they are playing nice football but it's all too easy and the floodlights are terrific.!!

Cork came through what looked like a tough challenge. It will likely do them good for the final.

Michael Hurley will certainly need watching in the final. He was the difference tonight.

And now the acid test awaits in Cork. Is it 20 years since a Kerry U21 side won in Cork? That was in Pairc Ui Chaoimh I think and not Pairc Ui Rinn.

Waterford were very poor but it was another game under the belt. Killian Spillane is flying I would start him and Bambury is going well . Andrew Barry had a much better game. Hurley will be a danger but I'm sure Jack will have a plan for him. We have enough quality in the backs to look after him. I'm confident we end this poor record against cork. Kerry to win. We have done nothing at U21 level since 2008. That's a terrible record. If you look at Dublin Mayo Tyrone they are always strong at U21 and we should be up there too.

The match to which you refer was, I think , in 1997. It was played Pairc Ui Rinn. It was a great match and was as far as I can recall a replay. One of the few things I can remember was a wonderful, display by Denis O'Dwyer at.midfield. They were then beaten by Meath up in Nenagh when Liam Brosnan had a spectacular goal disallowed . None of us there could understand why the score was not allowed. I don't think the foregoing is entirely imaginary. Anybody recall those matches? Another thing I remember about the Kerry /Cork draw and replay is that it was the first time Nicholas Murphy was unveiled so to speak. Nicholas was a dominant figure in Tralee but Denis O'Dyer was the master in Cork. Also, I think in Tralee Kerry played a tall unknown lad from Castleisland . He may have spend his formative years abroad? I don't think he made an impression. Was. he a Dillon lad?

He was on the Kerry panel in 2000. Your memory is good Veteran, it was Denis O'Dwyer and Kenneth Dillon at midfield.

I remember the game well in PUR - it ebbed and flowed and had Kerry two points up into injury time; then a Cork forward was fouled in the "square" and Cork were awarded a penalty - Philip Clifford of Bantry stepped up to take it but it was saved by David Moloney - great memories. The downside was that Kerry had only a 3 day turnaround before facing Meath in Nenagh as Veteran alluded to; this was daylight robbery on behalf of the referee ( White from Donegal?) who certainly incurred the wrath of the Kerry following that night - I remember Donie Sheehan ( Crokes) entering the referee's dressing room and walking with him to his car -it certainly defused what could have been a nasty situation. That side gave us many seniors - Eamon Fitz, Barry O'Shea, Tomas, Tommy Griffin,Denis O'Dwyer, Mike Frank,Aodan Mac Gearailt.

1. Shane Ryan 2. Tom Leo O'Sullivan 3. Jason Foley 4. Tom O'Sullivan 5. Brian Sugrue 6. Brian Ó Beaglaioch 7. Gavin White 8. Barry O'Sullivan 9. Andrew Barry 10. Brian O'Seanachain 11. Sean O'Shea 12. Matthew Flaherty 13. Killian Spillane 14. Matthew O'Sullivan 15. Cathal Bambury
That's the starting 15 I'd imagine with everyone fit and the subs with it.
16. Eoghan O'Brien 17. Conor Geaney 18. Micheal Burns 19. Jordan Kiely 20. Cormac Coffey 21. Dan O'Brien 22. Jack Morgan 23. Rob O'Se 24. Lee O'Donoghue
Thats a very strong 24 to play Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn. I'd would be fairly confident in them bucking the trend and beating the Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn. While they werent that impressive against Clare they were alot more effective against a very poor Waterford side. Andrew Barry excelled at midfield, he could be moved back into centre back also where he is more regularly seen. This team is very strong down the middle of the field and will need to play sub-par to be beaten. The Crokes boys coming back in will offer something different and will be in flying form with them all making an impact in the Club final. Out of that starting 15 I could see 11 making appearences in the national league next year for the seniors.

The Páirc Uí Rinn pitch looked great on TV last night. For this time of year, especially. Like a snooker table.

Brandon Barrett's work ethic appeals to Jack. Would be surprised if he is not on the panel. Unless he is injured.

Brandon Barrett's work ethic appeals to Jack. Would be surprised if he is not on the panel. Unless he is injured. I completely overlooked Barrett. Im full sure he will be on the 24 at least. As for Conor Geaney I'm led to believe he wasn't injured for the last game in Waterford. Bambury and Spillane have to start. Matthew O Sullivan may still be injured, as Geaney may be also. Either way it's a very strong team. Two training sessions left before the game, it must be intense.

A bit weird that they are streaming as opposed to broadcasting them; they have been broadcasting the U21 hurling for a good bit. Also makes even more of a mockery of RTE's commitment to GAA. Just checked the Tg4 schedule there and there is also a highlights program of both finals at 10:30 for an hour that night.

Jack Morgan always impresses me as a sensible, natural defender. I would like to see him on. However , the fitness of Mathew O'Sullivan is paramount. He and Sean O'Shea are the major players in attack. If the weather is fine this game is full of potential. Only place modest bets on Kerry.

Sean O'Shea has to be one of the most exciting young Kerry forwards in a long while. He is like an intercounty senior playing at under 21 level. He is so mature and strong on the ball it is hard to imagine he is still only a minor. I read Michael Hurley changed the game when he came on against Limerick. This under 21 team were beaten earlier on in the year by Limerick in a challenge game, they were missing some players but had a relatively strong team I beleive. I don't think we give the likes of Clare and Limerick the credit they deserve when they put it up to Cork and Kerry underage, we dwell on them having a below par game instead of the lesser team forcing them to play poorly.

I would say that Sean Powter is a bigger threat than Hurley, he caused serious damage in Tralee last year.

Returning Con O'Callaghan on song as Dubs advance to U21 Leinster final
Updated / Wednesday, 22 Mar 2017 22:12 3
Returning All-Ireland club hurling champion Con O’Callaghan was the scorer-in-chief as Dublin proved too strong for Longford in the Leinster U21 Football semi-final, while there were wins elsewhere for Sligo and Donegal.
Fresh from his exploits with Cuala, the gifted forward and team captain plundered 2-05 in testing conditions at Lakepoint Park in Mullingar, though the defending champions led by the bare minimum at the interval playing against the stiff breeze,
Declan Monaghan, Glenn O'Reilly, Chris Sallier, Dan O'Brien were all late changes to the Dublin team and both sides took their time to adjust to the conditions.
O’Callaghan claimed the first score of the game after 13 minutes, while Sallier tacked on the next two Dublin scores. Tom Fox thought he had the game's first goal, but his effort was disallowed by the match officials.
Longford however stuck manfully to the task. Rian Brady opened their account with a free, before a second from play and a fine score from David McGivney saw the sides level, before O’Callaghan nudged the men from the capital ahead at the interval.
An indication of the strength of the wind was evident when O'Callaghan went short with a 21 mtrere free in the finals tages of the half.
However a scoring blitz at the start of the second half quickly put paid to Longford’s challenge.
Within seven minutes of the restart Dublin picked off 2-03 without reply, with O’Callaghan claiming all but one point in the purple patch.
First he profitted from a mistake by the Longford goalkeeper, playing a one-two with Sallier before rounding the goalkeeper to finish to an empty net, before putting the game to bed five minutes later with his second of the night.
McGiney’s free halted the Dublin momentum, but Sallier and O’Callaghan continued to keep the umpires ticking over.
The underdogs were reliant on McGivney’s accuracy from placed balls, with their first score from play coming four minutes from the end through Aidan McElligott.
Longford reeled off the last four scores of the contest, but it was academic at that stage, with Dublin winning out on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-09.
They will now face the Faithful County in Portlaoise next week, Wednesday 29 March.
#########
In Connacht, Sligo sealed their passage through to the final courtesy of a 1-13 to 0-13 win over Roscommon at Kiltoom and keep alive their hopes of a first ever provincial title at this age grade.
Playing with the wind in the opening half, the Rossies held a two-point advantage, with Hubert Darcy’s free-taking key to the narrow lead.
Sligo’s Darragh Cummins was a real thorn in the Roscommon defence and his three points in the first eight minutes of the second half saw the sides level at 0-08 apiece.
From there on the Yeats County never looked back. Jodie O’Reilly’s point put them three up, and he followed it up soon after with a goal to put daylight between the sides.
The Rossies battled gamely with scores from Cian McKeon, Jason Perry and Brian Stack, but Sean Carrabine’s final score ensured a three-point win for Sligo and they advance on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-13.
############# At the second time of asking, Donegal got the better of Tyrone in the U21 Ulster quarter-final replay in Ballybofey on a scoreline of 0-18 to 1-09.
In front of a crowd of 3,627 spectators, Donegal’s Michael Langan opened the scoring within 30 seconds and in a lively opening, Stephen McBrearty’s point gave the home side a 0-05 to 0-03 advantage with just over 10 minutes on the clock.
A Ryan Coleman goal put the Red Hand ahead of the first time, and by the time the referee blew the whistle after an absorbing opening half, it was level 0-08 to 1-05, with six different players on the Donegal scoresheet.
Two early frees swung the momentum back in Donegal’s favour, and they had a penalty to press their advantage, but Tyrone’s goalkeeper pulled off a great save to deny the home side.
Donegal however retained a firm grip on proceedings. Jamie Brennan, Michael Carroll, CIan Mulligan tacked on further scores as they sealed their place in the Ulster semi-final.
