Before Clifford gets all the praise he will undoubtedly get over the next few months, the backs on this team are as good, if not the best over the last 4 years. Hunting in packs, nothing easy given. Crazy performance by the team considering the expectancy that was on them beforehand

There was one high ball in in the first half and you could see the backs communicating one man up, one man in for the break.. no panic.. But to give Clifford his dues, he is pretty impressive!

I'm in the UK and wanted to watch this game on GaaGo but you can only watch it as part of the finals day bundle which includes the senior final and the Sunday game ... However in the uk the senior game can't be broadcast on GaaGo and I don't want to watch the Sunday game ... so how much do I end up having to fork out to see the minor game I hear you ask ... €29 ... yes 29 fecking euros! Are they having a laugh ... so much for thinking of the emigrants who have had to leave Ireland for whatever reason ... greedy barstewards! Best €29 euros I've ever spent!

Congrats to Kerry.
Tactically very naive by Derry. Too much space given to DC.
None of his goals were easy but he made them look easy.
I must watch it again to see who else played well!!
That Derry sub Brown should have started!

There was a lad on Twitter giving out about Clifford's shot selection.
I really wonder about some people.

Congratulations to the Kerry minors. Probably the best minor performance ever. What a way to end the U18 era. 6-16 from play!

That Derry sub Brown should have started! Only a special player and leader would have taken on a goal chance let alone score it, for second goal for Kerry and Clifford, from where he got the ball. Outrageous in brilliance. Brown should indeed have started, as well drilled as the backs were, he is simply too strong. The backs were excellent overall, scavenging and out in front consistently

Well done to each and everyone of the team and panel, their families, coaches, clubs, schools etc. A long way since 2014 and it has been a wonderful voyage. Often the comfort has been to know that regardless of the flakiness of our senior boys, at least we've had the minors to do us proud.....
I suppose it's too much to ask that we might have a modest public acknowledgement of this fine team and the historic achievement of them and their predecessors at some stage before Christmas? Just asking!

Question.. Has anyone ever scored 4 goals in an AI final before today? I think Billy O'Sullivan of Laine Rangers did it for the u21s around 1990 but it might have been a Semi final.

Well done to all. Fantastic achievement. Derry very naive in terms of how to stop Clifford .. it gets tougher from now on. Hard to assess the team in general given the disproportionate impact that Clifford has had.

Just asking! Hear hear. This management team have put so much into their squads- two weeks after winning last years title, they had their first meeting of the year preparing for this year - that's some commitment from them. Peter Keane has been a very fine bainisteoir.

Leaving Mullingar that day I didnt think we would have to wait 7 years

Question.. Has anyone ever scored 4 goals in an AI final before today? I think Roy of the Rovers might have done something similar back in the day. But he probably scored them with his right foot only.

Congratulations to Kerry minors on wonderful victory. I must confess I wasn't hugely confident because I had misgivings about the defence. As it transpired it was one of the best displays I have seen from a Kerry defence at any level for several years. As a unit they were masterful. At every opportunity they attacked the ball with venom , denyimg the dangerous Derry forwards possession. When they did concede possession they hunted the imposter in packs , harassing and demoralising him. The athletic black young man caused them some problems when he came on but more often than not he was eviscerated before damage could be done. A masterclass of defending which their senior brethren would do well to study.
Of course midfield and forwards did what they have done all year. This allied to the defensive stonewall caused nothing but misery for Derry. It needs to be recorded that the issue was concluded at a very early stage , chiefly through the intervention of the golden boy. If it was technically possible it would be a fascinating exsrcise to excise David from the campaign and see how the team would have fared. He certainly fractured Derry hearts and soul before they realised the game was in progress.
In 1967 I attended an u21 final in Croke Park between Kerry and Mayo which finished in a draw. The replay took place in Mayo, perhaps they tossed for venue. In any case Mayo won and Willie McGee scored four goals for them. He would have been an asset for their seniors today!

very happy to be with the Kerry subs today for their 4 in a row. Great bunch of mentors and players. Here's to a future featuring some of our minors from the last couple of years.

Just curious to know if David Clifford was close to making the minor panel two years ago when he was under 16?

Any thoughts on next year's minors, Peter Keane to step down? If he does, who to replace him?

Just curious to know if David Clifford was close to making the minor panel two years ago when he was under 16? He was 15 at start of minor championship two years ago. Don't think they have 3 year minors anymore or 4 year u21s.

Yesterdays Minor final broke some records - a stirring end to the u18 grade for now at least. The winning score was the biggest ever in a minor football final at 35 points, the winning margin was also the biggest at +24 beating the previous record of +21 set by Dublin back in 1956. Funnily enough 6 goals was not a record in itself as Kerry also scored 6 in winning the final in 1962 (but with only 5 points that day). Two winning sides scored five in the final - Cork in 1967 and Dublin in 1956.
Our four final wins were achieved +4, +20, +7 & +24 which is crazy considering the turnover in personnel from year to year. Now for the job of converting this into the Holy Grail - SENIOR SUCCESS
