Article in the Indo today talking about how Kerry have the most black cards in the league over the past four seasons. Time for us to own it and say we are cynical? I suppose it depends on how you define cynicism and whether you consider the black card a barometer of same. For sure, Maher's tackle was textbook cynical and textbook black. But can a clumsy one right in front of the ref really be called cynical? - more blacks seem to be give for this than anything else. Or is cynical making sure you go to ground after a foul so the opponent gets carded? - no black for doing that. Maybe it's playing the game virtually horizontal and constantly looking for handy frees (a-la-Andy Moran)? - not a black card offence either. Or perhaps its the sneaky closed fist tackle or the the eye-gouge out of sight on the ground ? - ne'er a black for that. And there's definitely no black card for a media campaign to discredit your opponents.

The issue of black cards is interesting - does it simply mean we are the least practised at the cynical arts and are caught more often than others. Which could in itself say we are the least cynical as afterall we are well known as cute hoors and what cute hoor would be caught doing something cynical if they put their minds to it.
Reminds me of the statitics, statistics and damm lies quote a little.....

You will be familiar with the orchestrated Dublin media campaign against Lee Keegan last year that culminated in his black card in the final. Are we seeing signs that Kerry are in their sights now.... first Paul Curran and now this latest article.

Very true. And lots of others have "beliefs".
Back to kerrys black card stats and they are fact based. I think this is a symptom of kerry struggling over the past few years at midfield and secondly not having as good a defensive strategy as dublin or mayo. When moran and barry delivered at midfield for kerry v dublin in the last two games, it was the dubs defenders who were picking up the cards.

The evidence re black cards stands on its own, nothing to do with Dublin. Maybe you can answer that? At the risk of boring the rest of the posters to death, I'll get back to you on the "campaign" shortly, as I'm too busy right now.

A lot of people like conspiracy theories. It's laughable and I fully agree with Sweeney in particular regarding mayos mentality. I like Keegan I think he is a wonderful player but he also has a bit of dirt to him much like our own Philly. One day Philly won't get away with it and it could be in a final much like Keegans was when his luck ran out.

A hang-over from the Seanie Johnston transfer to Kildare perhaps. McQuillan is probably delighted to be able to get his own little bit of retribution on McGeeney.
