Any chance Foley and Griffin will switch positions? Very good backline. Tom O'Sullivan and Foley will surely love the chance to play McBrearty and Murphy. With his build I would expect Griffin or Young to stay with Murphy and Crowley to stop anyone running through the middle. Mdfield and half forward line screams speed. With Lyne, Morley and Murphy there they could drop back into defence if needed, but all three are well able to surge forward and score. A very fast and agile full forward line as well. Some serious power on the bench as well

But not as bad as expecting Mayo supporters to travel to Limerick 😉 Seriously, it's a long way from South Kerry to any part of Donegal and it would be interesting to know of any people who are not travelling because the match is in Letterkenny rather than Ballybofey. I have never been at a Donegal v Kerry match in Ballyshannon. When was the last time we played them there? You know who'll be there, the couple of supporters busses and the handful who drive around the country to every match regardless, I'm sure you'll recognise them all at this stage. That's exactly my point kg. Those who are going will go no matter where in Donegal it is played. Unless they plan to move it to Tory Island!

Interesting team. Exciting bench. Looks like we mean business. Winning on the first day out and beating Donegal at home would send out such a message! Come on the Kingdom!

Been only once, two years ago, and would love to go back.

BoB went off injured v Cork in McGrath cup. Not sure on the extent of injury but would expect he will be nursed for u21 games now and rightly so.

I thought after his 2016, Adrian Spillane would be a shoe in for McGrath Cup / League run. Surely a better option at midfield than Morley who's a v good defender but not a gifted footballer?

Actually think Morley has a lot of football. He was a forward all up through the years including for the Kerry minors as I recall which would tend to support that.

Amazing we can have such a high proportion of 'strangers' making the step-up, even if it is the first round of the League.
Best of luck to Ballydonoghoor Jason Foley on his League debut and that is a name the world will become less strange with - a grand nephew of Mick Finucane of the Polo Grounds of '47 and in case that hasn't opponents concerned, then they will be pleased to know that his sparring partner brother Michael is also about to exit the pipeline, so Moybella might settle for Joint Captaincy when the time comes.
Will they be first, joint first, to land Sam home to The Cross?, he'd be nice and warm by Ballythefireside!
P.S. Mick's wife also played Camogie for the county, in fact both donned the jersey in the same hour, no doubt they will be looking down on O'Donnell Park tomorrow, fond memories!

Mark Griffin did well against Murphy in Tralee two years ago and when he played inside last year so it should be another good battle between the two. Enright will pick up McBrearty. The suggestion to play our two rookies on Donegals best forwards is madness, unless you want to ruin their confidence before they start out at all.
Great to see the 3 new lads start and the other 3 on the bench. Looking forward to seeing what they will bring to the set up.
Morley at midfield looks interesting, a natural forward, converted to full back when he was Kerry minor.

the lack of forwards is a huge worry. two backs playing in the half forward line.
surely we have better than this? we need to start getting scores from 10-12 but we wont get them with that approach. if our inside 3 are well marked, then we are in trouble.

I think with the half forwards it is horses for courses for now. Early February in Donegal is going to be a war of attrition.

www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/kerry-donegal-enmity-can-light-spark-on-new-league-campaign-441906.htmlNot the first article in this vein I've seen this week. Elements of the media seem determined to hype up the idea of a bad history between Kerry and Donegal. Last year's dust-up aside, there's no bitter history here that I've noticed. In fact there's hardly a history at all. Open to correction here but I think we've only played them twice when it matters since God knows when. Pathetic and irresponsible stuff from the Examiner imo. A bit like the fellas in the school yard standing around 2 lads, goading them to fight each other.

I would be confident that this team will get the league campaign off to a win . It will be interesting to see how the subs perform when introduced.. You can't beat competition for places to drive success . Safe journey to all

Correct. But the way Donegal laid out their stall last year in Tralee showed that they wanted to start something from the throw in. The Kerry lads were not found wanting in that department. There is very little history between the two counties. Safe travels to anyone making the journey.
I wont know until the morning whether I will be able to go or not, so bring your cameras folks.

Since two of the three played the whole Championship last year, with the other one to start against Dublin unavailable, I think this is just our half forward line of choice rather than horses for courses.

Though Murphy and Lyne might be seen as backs rather than forwards they are both forwards or backs that like to run up the field and score. With today's defensive systems it is wise to have two guys there than can score, but can also prevent the opposition from scoring. There should be no more incidents of full forwards, like Gooch, having to go back to our own 40 to defend. Both are very good footballers and Lyne is more a forward in my opinion than a half back. Add to that Morley, Jack Barry and Brendan O'Sullivan who are all very attack minded and a whole host of young forwards that score freely for Kerry I think the forwards is the least of our worries. We have little cover for the backs on the bench so that might also explain why two excellent defenders are in the half forwards. Donegal will set up defensively and would like to counter so we need something to counter that. In my opinion it is the best selection Eamon could have made.

Really impressed with our first day out.
Particularly impressed with the debutantes O'Sullivan,Foley,Savage, Barry all did really well look like really Kerry players.
Frank McGlynn taken off after getting a roasting.
As for the established players JOD is back unmarkable today. Geanny/Moran/Young and Crowley excellent.
Main concern is between the posts Kelly just not convincing enough for me.
On a side note I thought Brendan O Sullivan was poor when he came on .
Overall things looking good but we need to push on because Dublin were very good today after only training for 2 weeks.
Donegal I think are destined for D2.
I also hope that Shane Enright is ok. Didn't see the incident.

Great first half. Paul Geaney and James O'Donoghue were outstanding. Poor last 15 minutes but that could be down to fitness and rustiness. Overall though a win is a win. All the young fellas did well. Donegal though are poor. Lost a lot of players in the last year and you could see it today. They will struggle to get points and stay up. I wouldn't be surprised if they go down. Mayo now next week should be interesting. Monaghan beat them so they will definitely need the points.

Was there, ring side -after all the exchange...
can Donegal beat Tyrone? can Kerry beat Dublin?
Round 1 of the league, there will be better reports - Kerry very good, looks a biteen like good times ahead.

A very satisfactory day out. The ground was grand.. Bit thrown together on the 'terrace'. Pitch was in good nick for this time of the year. Obviously it was a wee bit slippery underfoot and mistakes were made. That said we were treated to a decent game of ball.
In terms of football it wasn't a first cousin of the first encounter last year and for most parts Kerry dominated a mouse like Donegal. I thought the Michael Murphy penalty was going to be a real deal breaker but the Kerry response was clinical.. I thought 90% of the performance was very professional save for the final 10 or 15 minutes. Even at half time we came out early and went through another warmup which I've never seen before.
The full forward line had a field day. Jack Savage will be delighted with his contribution. To say he was ably assisted by Paul Geaney and James O is obviously an understatement. They had the Donegal defence in tatters. Geaney in particularly was magnificent. Give that man an inch and you're already a beaten docket.. He's really establishing himself as our marquee forward.
Overall Kerry will be delighted with this performance. Dominated all over until changes were made and legs began to seize up. Light years apart from the cold start we had versus Dublin last year. While the game was a game there was o lying one team in it. Donegal will take the positives from their mini revival but like I said Kerry had plenty of changes at that stage and the foot was firmly off the gas.

I thought Mikey Geaney was off form when he came in.. He got on ball but was very loose with it..Paul Murphy was replaced by Brendan O Sullivan who didn't have much impact. Barry John and Conor Geaney didn't see much of the action as Donegal has taken over. That said I do think Kerry were leggy at that point..The likes of David Moran had emptied the tank so it probably made life difficult for subs coming in with that going on and interest waning too with the result in the bag.. I wouldn't worry about it.
On another note I didn't see the Shane Enright incident but there was a bit of worry about it when he was down. Hopefully he will be ok.
