Interesting motion coming before next County Board meeting..... That County Players are made available to their clubs up to two weeks prior to Kerry fixtures.
Would certainly help CCC with fixtures..and also pave the way for county players to play more with their clubs...
Be interesting to see the discussion on this..

Who's the motion from? Hard to see it being workable.

Is there not a 13 day rule already?

13 day rule was brought in initially to allow manager sufficient time to prepare for games. But it now appears to be a minimum time and can be stretched by weeks.Clubs need to decide are they going to continue to moan about availability of their County players or do something about it.Enforcing the rule be a good start.

Yeah, enforcement of this rule across the country would go a long way to solving some of the club fixture issues.

Yeah, enforcement of this rule across the country would go a long way to solving some of the club fixture issues. It is not workable while we retain 4 provincial structures with uneven numbers. A level playing field can't be achieved. The club and county game cant exist side by side as structures stand.

We could start in Kerry..unfair fir teams to have to play 10 games in 10 weeks and yet one game in August September. .enforcing 2 week rule would allow 2 extra rounds of county championship to be played ..let the other counties sort their own problems

Agreed that standardised fixtures requires a rejig of the provinces. However there is no real desire to upset the county money making juggernaut either. Enforcement of the 13 day rule by all counties would at least mean more meaningful games over the summer for club players. Intercounty players are wrapped up in cotton wool far too much. Injuries are a fact of life and if they are as fit as they say they are then a few extra games in the middle of championship won't hurt.

It wont happen, Kerry wont force their players to play county championship two weeks before an All-Ireland quarter final with Dublin or Tyrone if Dublin or Tyrone have one or two extra weeks to prepare for the game due to way their club fixtures have fallen.

At my club AGM there was a motion suggesting that every club player should sign a declaration that they would put club ahead of county if there was a clash with a significant club fixture. It was withdrawn following debate. The meeting acknowledged that the matter needed to be addressed, but this mechanism was putting too much pressure on young lads who had a chance of making the county panels at various ages, of which we have quite a few. (Its not a club in Kerry)

There were nine motions down for discussion but none were passed, with a motion from Renard stating “that county players are made available to their clubs up to two weeks prior to Kerry fixtures” being roundly defeated.
