I was reminded the other week that Seamus Moynihan won only 3 All Stars. Which says a lot about the entire concept.

You showed the Galway players nominated a lot of respect too didn't you. Get off your Pedestal fool. I thought it was pretty clear that context of my request was concerning the posters on the site. To answer your point about Galway, my criticism was indeed very strong, I think it's 100% accurate but let me know your views. I did individually name Paul Conroy, the purpose being to contrast how harsh it was on Dave Moran to miss a nomination. I don't believe there was any personal disrespect extended to any Galway player. You might say Conroy, but as explained was contrasting Moran as opposed to dissecting the man. Was my ask of you unfair? First of all it's not your Job to tell people what to write or disagree with and second I have plenty of things I could say about your Posts but I don't. How harsh it was on David Moran. Are you Kidding me ? David Moran was lucky to keep his place on the Kerry team this year. An All Star? haha. David Moran went missing when Kerry needed him most against Dublin. He was average at best. He hasn't played well since 2014. There you go that's a comment. There are lots I could comment on.

Agreed, it isn't my job to tell you or anybody anything on this site, it's a contributory forum. The Control folk do the telling. I didn't tell you or anyone else what to write, I asked you to be more respectful on the back of your reply to Ciarrauabu "You're so knowledgeable!! . Tell us oh wise one what else do you know"). I think that's insulting, I would have taken it as an insult. Anyway, that was the intention of the point to ask and not tell. Why don't you say the plenty of things you think about my posts? We're here to discuss/debate. I'm sure I'm wrong on loads of stuff but that's why we have all these threads to thrash it out. On Moran would you have started Sheehan or somone else, Buckley? I agree Moran is not at the heights of 2014, but he had his best game since 2014 against Dublin imo. He played against the AI Champions doing it. I've mentioned the Galway players and opposition they faced. Paul Controy deserved a midfield nomination for that after being hammered by Tipp?

We all write plenty of garbage from time to time but what we sign up for here and are reminded of at the top of every page is to be respectful of the honest views of others even if we violently disagree with them. Nothing "defamatory, harassing or hateful". It's a good rule and stops us straying into the excesses of other forums.Having read their posts for many years I know (honest opinion) that Fitz is certainly not a fool but there is no doubt that Ciarriabu is a "wise one". The rest of us swing between both extremes - sometimes in the same post. Without respect things deteriorate to the level of the playground squabble and we don't want that.

Footallers will be named tomorrow. This article is in the Independent online today: www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/the-most-talented-footballer-in-the-country-has-only-won-one-all-star-and-he-could-miss-out-yet-again-this-year-35182002.htmlThe most talented footballer in the country has only won one All Star - and he could miss out yet again this year'I don't read the media too much'. That was one of the many soundbites given by Diarmuid Connolly yesterday at a press briefing ahead of this Saturday's Dublin county final. Watching Connolly in action for his club is about as rewarding a Gaelic football experience as you can have. You can bet that a good deal of the capacity crowd packed into Parnell Park for last week's semi-final between St Vincent's and Ballymun were there in the hope that they would witness some Connolly magic. The Dublin star didn't disappoint, pulling up from various angles and distances - both acute and long respectively - to kick four gorgeous points. Four points that justify the tag regularly applied to Connolly that he is the game's most gifted footballer. Perhaps the 29-year-old's stance on the media stems from a reluctance to read negative pieces about his on-pitch behaviour. However, those sort of articles are more than balanced out by the amount of coverage given to Connolly's innate ability, which feature the phrase 'the most talented footballer in the country' so regularly that it has relegated the lofty superlative to a stock cliché. If you polled every football fan in Ireland, you would be hard pressed to find any who wouldn't include Connolly in a list of the top three or five players around. Yet, interestingly, he only has one All Star, meaning that there are 159 players who have been rewarded more times by the selection committee than he has. One Gaelic footballer has nine awards, one has eight, one has seven, three have six, seven have five, 15 have four, 41 have three and 90 have two. Diarmuid Connolly - one of the top footballers of his era - has one. So why does a player almost universally recognised as one of the best - if not the best - have so few All Stars? There is a real possibility that Connolly - despite starring for Dublin in four All-Ireland-winning campaigns - could have no All Stars to show for any of them. His one selection came in 2014 when he and Paul Flynn picked up awards on the back of an amazing exhibition of long-range point-taking in the losing semi-final effort against Donegal. Of course, that could change this year, with the 2016 All Star team - chosen by a selection of GAA corespondents - set to be announced tomorrow. There are six starting forward spots. Judging from the betting, Paul Geaney (Kerry), Michael Quinlivan (Tipperary) and Ciaran Kilkenny (Dublin) are nailed on. The remaining three spots are expected to be filled from Connolly, Dean Rock (Dublin), Kevin McManamon (Dublin) and Peter Harte (Tyrone). While you could easily argue for Connolly's inclusion, you could do the same for the others who are in the mix - an issue that applies to an inherently subjective selection each year. When you break down Connolly's unsuccessful All Star bids in All-Ireland-winning years, it becomes apparent why the selection committee have neglected to reward him since Dublin's breakthrough in 2011 - his scoring record from play in the All-Ireland series. In 2011, Connolly famously scored seven points from play against Tyrone in the quarter-final but didn't add another score to his tally in either the semi-final or the final. 2013 featured a scoreless quarter-final, a three point effort from play against Kerry in the last four and a solitary point in the final against Mayo. Last year saw the first great championship battle between Lee Keegan and Connolly, with the Dublin forward registering one point from play across two semi-final games against Mayo to add to two points he kicked against Fermanagh. He failed to score in the final against Kerry. This year saw his most prolific output in the All-Ireland series since 2014, scoring from play in all four games against Donegal (0-2), Kerry (0-3) and Mayo (0-1 and 0-1). In the fourteen All-Ireland series games played in Dublin's four victorious campaigns, Connolly has kicked 21 points from play, averaging 1.5 points per game, a solid if unspectacular total. But even more tellingly, he has only scored three points from play in the four All-Ireland finals he has played - so he has as many red cards in All-Ireland series games - and in a selection system that is heavily weighted towards the end of the championship, that fact has undoubtedly gone against him. Of course, his influence in this year's final extended beyond scores from play - he converted a decisive penalty and was involved in the incident that saw rival Keegan black carded - so you could argue that his all-round contribution was greater than in previous finals. Connolly deserves an All Star for his efforts but the selection committee are tough assessors and although he would appear nailed on from afar, a closer look indicates that the Dubs star will be in a close fight with some team-mates for a coveted spot on the team.

Nine or ten All Stars for the Dubs from the media to commemorate the back to back?

They shouldn't get that many. They will definitely get 6 if not 7 but 6 for sure.

Allstars give no recognition to how players have played over the course of the year , They acknowledge the semifinal and final of an AllIreland series and throw in one or two two token jestures. Wont lose too much sleep over who many Dublin get . Winning games is what matters.

That article is a pile of crap- Connolly was anonymous in both finals and his selfishness stopped them from winning the first day.
This whole idea that raw talent means he should win all stars is nonsense- it's about performance and on that alone he doesn't deserve one. how is this so hard for some people to get??

As anticipated only Paul Geaney gets an All Star. A reflection of the quality of our opposition up to the semi? This explains the two Tyrone inclusions who were able to show their skill in Ulster despite a flat team performance in the quarter final. Despite the two own goals (not his fault but would have sunk many another keeper's chances) David Clarke gets the nod over Cluxton. A shot across the bows of the Mayo management for their replay blunder?
Football year well and truly over now so roll on 2017!

Very hard to argue with that selected team. The only one I would have slight reservations about would be Diarmuid Connolly. I thought Kevin Mc was better than him overall this year.Great to see Ryan Mc Hugh gain a deserved All Star. A proud day also for Tipperary football. Congrats to our own Paul Geaney, some footballer. Roll on 2017, can't come quick enough!

Nine or ten All Stars for the Dubs from the media to commemorate the back to back? Poor aul KG, disappointed again eh? When will the myths ever live up to your expectations? Good article that about Connolly, he will always divide the audience. I think his general play is so good for the most part it puts most other players in the shade but it's hard to argue with scores. I have often wondered in recent years why he doesn't push up more and let loose but then he has missed quite a few goal chances. I do think he sacrifices alot in terms of going deep and working very hard off the ball. Admirable but a shame, we have been denied more scores by one of the best scoring players the game has seen (his scores and individual creative work are some of the very best I've ever seen). I don't give a monkeys about All-Stars etc (still can't get over the nonsense of Clare hurlers 'Team of the Year' 2013, and the lack of comment by people on forums like this about it, people who get up in arms about all sorts of other 'injustices') but Kevin Mac is very unlucky to lose out this year, his best year so far. Possibly an element of "Dubs fatigue", and the effects of the endless, intense 'resources/advantages' etc campaign propoganda in action here

Shane Enright can count himself unlucky to not grab a 2nd award. It was a toss up between himself and Harrison.

I thought that Small was extremely tidy and efficient for the Dubs and went about his business without much fuss. Philly wasn't as good as last year but I suppose he has a greater media presence than Small right now which helps.

Definitely, thought he was mostly outstanding, and had very big fast shoes to step into. McMahon has probably been our most important player the last 2 years. I'll leave what that means/should mean/could mean etc in terms of accolades up to others, I don't think he gives a damn himself and that's probably the best way to be, to keep your edge. He seems to be one of those lads that can perform to the highest level without football having to be an obsession. Incredible composure, and great perspective. Just one more thing about Connolly, I can count on the fingers of one, maybe two hand(s) how many attempted points that have gone wide in the last couple of years. Kerry backs did well against him this year, despite his two big scores.

I thought Kevin mac was unlucky. He was the main guy in both the qf and semi but had quietish finals. Hard to say who you would leave out though. I think Clarke is fairly lucky to get an all star. He made his mistakes like others did but I guess he is a more sympathetic choice than cluxton.

Is Galway the first provincial champion to not be represented on the All-Stars team? I can't think but I'm probably missing an obvious case.

In fairness all of the players who have won All-Stars this year are decent footballers. People will always have their own preferences and it is sometimes difficult to separate the current years performance by a player from what they did in previous campaigns. I personally imagine building a team from scratch each year and try to choose the best player for each position. I would have gone for Cluxton in goal despite his first half blip against Kerry, he recovered well and was once again an integral part of the Dublin attacks for the entire season. I don't think there are many managers who would turn down Philly McMahon, he had a quieter year this year but was used much more in a defensive man marking role. As for Connolly? An enigma! I think his mere presence on the field puts fear into most teams (or at least their managers) forcing them to change the way they play. I'd definitely prefer him on my side. Harte had an excellent season and it was good to see him get his rewards as well as Tip man Quinlivan. Most people will be biased of course towards their own county, maybe because they take a lot more interest in their own players and know more about them? I've heard people go on about certain Dublin players not being good enough and that they only look great because Leinster is so poor but the simple fact is that Dublin have now won back to back titles and will be going for 3 in a row as well as five in a row with the league! Roll on 2017.

People will always have their own opinion but I would definitely have him in my team. If Dublin do the 3 in a row and the 5 in a row then there is no doubt the will be the greatest team ever especially in today's day and age where they play a lot more games.

Actually Dublin didn't receive any in 2009 or Cork in 2008. There was really no-one on the Galway team who was in the possibles/unlucky to miss out category. They beat a Mayo side who probably turned in their worst championship performance since the time Longford in Division 4 beat them in the qualifiers, then it took a replay to get past Roscommon (who ended up being knocked out by Clare after a 6 points loss) before being well beaten by Tipperary (lucky it was only 9 points) There were probably fortunate enough to even get 4 nominations (same as Kerry) given how much of a shambles they were.

Kerry backs did well against him this year, despite his two big scores. You must have some very weird looking hands then as Don't Foul has him with 14 misses in televised games this year alone. The big figure that jumps out of the table below is his 30 attempts, which is 6 more than Cillian O'Connor. Backs up what I've said about him before with people remembering the spectacular efforts that go over but forget the ones that go wide.
