Ballydonoghue 1-15 Brosna 0-9 I thought this game might be one of the best in a somewhat lifeless championship so far but it wasn't.In absolutely perfect footballing conditions in Duagh before a good crowd the game eventually petered out with the result well known before the final whistle sounded. Ballydonoghue had a great deal of possession in the first half but in spite of that Brosna were only 2 points in arrears at half time. Afterwards silly fouls by Brosna resulted in 2 black cards and then when they suffered a straight red dismissal Brosna became understandably disjointed. Ballydonoghue piled on the points and when the goal came from a high misjudged ball the result was not in question.Ballydonoghue looked young fit and impressive but this was not the Brosna we saw on that magic trip to Croke Park with many of those warriors not available. Still Ballydonoghue were impressive.

A very fair report by Ballybunion and I agree that ballydonahue were by far the better team and deserved their win, Brosna missing players was a contributing factor to their poor display but a more contributing fact for me as to why we were so poor was the fact that it was one week short of 3 months since Brosna had a competitive game, 28th of august v ardfert, 11 weeks later the spark was gone, Who's fault?? Maybe no ones only saying!! Ballydonahue will have to up it to win the champ. It took them longer than it should to finish us off , won't do against the big dogs , All said I would like to see them win it !!

Desmonds vrs Senans ?? Call it Desmonds with their experience from Div 1 should win but I believe that they are quite weak at the moment because of injuries and some others unavailable due to being abroad.

Is the North Kerry Championship past its sell by date as a modern competition?
5 or 6 years ago it was regularly over 50 pages of conversation on the thread on this forum by mid October. There seems to be no interest on the forum or even with a lot of the North Kerry clubs judging by some of the scores and performances I have seen.

Some clubs just might not have enough quality to compete. You can quite easily predict the winner of most games the last number of years, especially the earlier rounds. Mark of a good championship is its competitiveness.

St. Senans 3-12. Castleisland 2-5. HT 1-6 0-4
This was quite entertaining , being competitive for long stages before the more enterprising St. Senans established complete mastery with, at times , sparkling football. The flow of the game was not helped by a whistle happy referee.
The first half was for the most part evenly contested but St. Senans did look the more threatening chiefly due to the inspiring stubbornness of Sean Weir at CHB and especially due to the dominance of Damien Somers at midfield, who, fielded magnificently and surged forward repeatedly. A decisive moment came just before halftime, perhaps the decisive moment of the match. St. Senans were correctly awarded a penalty. Sean O'Connell converted even though the diminutive Steven Bartlet got a hand to it. That put St. Senans five up which looked a secure lead.
Kieran Brennan went to full forward at the start of the second half. Not shortly after the resumption he pulled down a high one and he was pulled down too. The penalty was expertly driven home by Thomas Hickey. Two points in it now. Ansiety time for the Halfway lads but they responded immediately and lethally. The ball was worked up immediatelly and intricately before wing forward, Sean O'Connell, struck it home venomously. A goal worthy of turning a game , which it did. Thereafter, St. Senans dominated , scoring from various distances and angles. The solar plexus pinch was applied by full forward, Darragh Kennelly. He grasped possession in front of the stand, set off ambitiously for goal and his ambition was realised when cracked a daisy cutter home. Castleisland did get a late consolation from ? Sean Lynch. Their goalie was black carded late in the game ? giving guff. Their full back, Maurice Lynch, was sent packing as a result of a second yellow. Unhappy times for the visitors.
Sean T. Dillon was equal to the Thomas Hickey challenge which was crucial. Thomas was restricted to one point from play but in fairness some of the frees he converted were as a result of fouls on himself. Sean Weir was unyielding at CHB all through, constantly foraging forward. Mike Keane was a neat tidy wingback.
Damien Somers was rampant in the first half at midfield, less so in the second half. Some of his fetching were high points of the game.
Most of their forwards, static enough in the first half but beaverlike in the second half, posed a scoring threat. The enrire half forward line of Sean O'Connell, David Foran and Eoin O'Connell were direct and clever .
Casteisland had far fewer heroes. Brian Leonard and especially Maurice Hickey gave their all in defence Pat Fitzgerald roared into the game in the second half but there was little potency up front. They would have expected more from Thomas Hickey but he had little support.
Sean O' Connell got one goal from play, one from a penalty and three points from frees. David Foran for three from play. Paudie Quille got two from play. Eoin O'Connell got one from play as did Sean Weir. David Behan got two from frees and Cathal Kennelly got that solo effort goal.
For Castleisland, Thomas Hickey got a penalty goal, one point from play and three from frees. Sean Lynch got a goal and Pat Fitzgerald got a point. Cas

That is about as concise and accurate a description of the game as anyone could deliver. I was at the game also but it would be a waste of time attempting to improve on it. Enjoyable game and a Sunday afternoon well spent.

Decent game today in moyvane. Despite events during the week in the Listowel camp and fielding a very much understrength team listowel found enough in the end although been down 5/6pts at one stage in second half and should have been more only for heroics of hughes in goals. I feel if listowel can get their players together and do a bit of training they will be champions again this year Contrary to popular belief i am certain Tarbert will beat senans next weekend as i can not see them dealing with the high ball into donal leahy unless they bring whelan to full back which would be a disaster for senans...

Emmets 1-14 Ballyduff 0-13 Thought this game was poor today. Ballyduff got out of the blocks early in this match but Listowel's experience at this level shone through in the end, even though the were very much under strength with up to 8 / 10 players down due to injury, unavailability , and recent retirements. Surprisingly Conor Cox seemed off his game today by missing some handy frees which he would normally slot over without much effort , but he still contributed to the final tally handsomely The winners can thank keeper Hughes for some fine shot stopping to keep them in touch with the Cashensiders as the game progressed The turning point of the game following a deft flick from evergreen player/manager Noël Kennelly to young Sammy Tarrent who raised a green flag. From then on there was only going to be 1 winner as Emmets grew in confidence an finished out the game ahead by 4 having been down 5 pts going into the last quarter Emmets were best served by C Mulvihill, Jake Moriarty, and Sweeney ( 2nd half) also the introduction of Minor Collins in last 10 mins, Ballyduff can look to Evan Doyle and Mikey Boyle as main contributors It was a massive victory for The Townies considering their starting 15 as they carried a lot of passengers today guys not up to this standard, but with missing players due back for Semi Final it should make a great game vs Ballydonoughue in 2 weeks time
Must agree with Kerryman90 that some of the decisions taken by referee and sideline officials today were lubricious in the extreme

A major part of this forum is keep people up to date with the insights into how things are going in clubs and of heresays.. HurlingMad was just doing that, im certain no menace behind it and obviously control will see that... im sure the comment wont distract leahy or hinder his performance tomorrow
