While I understand all the very sensible reasons people are suggesting the game should be held outside Croke Park next Sunday, for me the overwhelming sentiment is the Clare footballers have earned the right to play in our national stadium.
If the Clare footballers were there every other year one could agree more readily with a move away from Croker but this is Clare's first opportunity since 1992. I don't think we can imagine how proud they are of this achievement and how the Clare footballers must be looking forward to running out on Croke Park. Not often but sometimes it’s not just about money.

There won't be much of a crowd in Croker Sunday, 15K? They could just open the lower Hogan stand and it would take the crowd I'd say. they'll have to open the whole bottom tier really as club & family groups go in the Davin as a rule. Long day for me as a steward in for 11.45 and probably wont leave til close to 8pm. With Sunday's first match at 12, I'll be back in about 9.30. It does of course have it's compensations later on although this year I've found it very hard to get enthused about most of the football I've seen so far. Hopefully the weekend will show some improvement. Ciarrai abu

I suppose you'd have to ask them but if it was me, I'd rather be playing in front of a decent crowd and a good atmosphere, neither of which you're going to get at HQ next Sunday. And I certainly know which I'd prefer as a supporter. To be honest, I think this thing about having your day in Croker is old hat at this stage.

Yes, but this is the first time to make the All Ireland quarter finals and a big step up for Clare football. For me, it's about the players firstly and in this case the Clare footballers and like all players they would want to play in Croker. On a selfish note, anyone who has played there will tell you Croke Park plays like no other pitch and as often as we are there ourselves, I'm sure Eamon & Co are delighted with a run out again too before a likely meeting with Dublin. A perfect opportunity for a couple of our new defenders to gain further experience at headquarters.

Leaving the county scene aside, it's been a very special place for many Kerry clubs and schools in the last number of years alone. As for inter-county football - is it not the place every footballer wants to play? How often do Clare footballers get the opportunity to play there in the Championship? Yes the supporters are hugely important but so are the players.

On the football front, will we see a rematch of Podge Collins on Brian Ó Beaglaoich? Collins looked like he was going to give a real testing prior to his black card in the Munster semi-final.

Kerry should be winning this by at least 10 points. No excuses really they're playing a Division 3 team although promoted but if they don't win this with a bit to spare i would be surprised. If they lose I expect a lot retirements because they should never play for Kerry again. Fitzmaurice should also step down if they lose.

This is a very ill timed, unhelpful, and somewhat uniformed, comment. Eamonn must keep older players fit without tiring them, make some in their twenties into the new leaders and blend in some young players to add some pace. He will be aware that if he gets everything right, this eclectic group could take down the most fancied team in decades. Sunday's game is not about a scoreline. Kerry will win. Eamonn will know the point in the graph he must hit on August 28th. If the various strands are on course to combine on that day and give the performance required, the quarter final will be a distant memory. I wouldn't mind if they won by only a few points if 2 young players showed that they are ready to take on the highly spoken of or maybe some of the established midfielders showed they were back in form.

I just hope we don't beat Dublin and go on to lose the final.
That would be devastating.

The Clare midfielder got a straight red for what looked like a closeline tackle on Saturday.
I think Spillane said that because his hand touched the ball while it was around the opponents neck it somehow was ok.
I hope it is reduced to a yellow and he gets to play on Sunday but i dont agree that it wasnt a foul at all just because his hand touched the ball in the process of the closeline tackle.
I would be interested in hearing from Ciarrailar on this........

I would be interested in hearing from Ciarrailar on this........ The CCCC wouldn't want to give out the message that you can do what you like to a fella as long as you get fingerprints on the ball. At the same time I do think the clotheslining bit was entirely accidental and O'Connor looked like he was trying to pull out of it. I'm guessing he'll get off, perhaps sentiment might sway the authorities here. Hopefully so, but they'd want to be careful with the reasons they give and not be setting any dodgy precedents.

Well Spillane seems to think that you can do what you like as long as you get your fingertips on the ball. He really is a holy show at this stage.
He started off analysing "the great Tipp attacking play" against Derry by showing a clip of a Tipp player haring through the wide open Derry defence. He contracted this to the "lateral" play against Kerry and showed a clip where Kerry had their defense in place and Tipp had no option but to go lateral. I am sure that there are lots of young men in their thirties with big mortgages and young families who could do with the grand a week for this gig and do a far better and more insightful job. He has given up on the cringing jokes though (remember the one about the sheiiiite muslims) which is something to be grateful for i suppose.

First time I've hit the opt out button on my season ticket after four years and to make matters worse I'll be in Dublin this weekend.
So many loyal followers struggling to find it in them to travel up. It's common for fans to stay away from a game because of the chances of their team getting beat, only the GAA with regularity can throw up a scenario of fans staying away because their team is highly unlikely to get beaten.
Difficult to see how many will travel from the Banner as well, Tipp might double their following they had last Saturday, but that would mean around 1000 showing up.
If there is 20,000 at it they'll be going well, Galway fans will have to travel in numbers to make that up.
