Waterville will be buzzing this coming weekend with a special celebration on the life and career of Mick O'Dwyer to coincide with his 80th birthday celebrations. There will be an Under 12 blitz, a legends match (Kerry v the rest of Ireland featuring, Jacko, Darragh, Maurice, Moynihan, Glen ryan, Ian Fitzgerald, anthony Rainbow and many many others. The Kerry team will be managed by the great man himself and Matt O'Connor of Offaly will take charge of the rest of Ireland team. That night Nathan Carter will be performing in the Sea Lodge hotel.
The tournament itself starts on Saturday with 8 teams fighting it out for the inaugural Mick O'Dwyer trophy, including his beloved Waterville, Austin Stacks, Dromid, St. Marys, Kerins O'rahillys, Macroom and St. Laurence's from Kildare. Saturday night will be the gala birthday celebration followed by music and entertainment all night. with the tournament final on Sunday.
It'll be a cracking weekend, with a lovely souvenir programme being produced detailing Micko's phenomenal career. All proceeds of the programme will go to the local national school and Iveragh Mental Health.
Anyone looking for something to do this weekend could do a lot worse than come down to pay tribute to this extraordinary man.

Someone I was talking to told me there was a decent full page on Micko in the Sunday Times Sport section last weekend. I know it's a bit late but may be of interest to some.

Nice to see Micko being celebrated while he's still hale and hearty and able to enjoy it. He has influenced generations of footballers, many of them far, far away from Waterville.
Nice to see the weekend included on the main news, fair play to Sean Mc an tSithigh for keeping the flag flying despite intense competition in the national meeja.

... fair play to Sean Mc an tSithigh for keeping the flag flying despite intense competition in the national meeja. This man is doing trojan work for Kerry... I'm waiting for people to start giving out to be honest... does a world of advertising for West Kerry.
