At least four starters from one club are doing Applied Maths. And you also ignore the fact that more would have prepared for the game with weeks of study and very little (if any) football. It shows a level of contempt for the players and competition to be fixing games at this time. What club is that? Smart boyos. There are over 2000 expected to sit that particular exam nationally - and if you look at Ag Science the number is nearly 8000 (about 14% of all students doing the leaving and 18% of males). Music has another 6500 students sitting exams. In total I estimate between 20 and 25% of students still have one of the exams that are scheduled for the last three days. This is simply a case of those making fixtures being out of touch.

On average there is probably 3/4 minors on an u21 team,Do you suggest we hold up a whole competition affecting the guts of 500 players because a small percentage of players on the starting 15 might still be doing exams? I am not taking about minors - read earlier posts - U19's are also impacted by this as there are quiet a number of lads overage for Minor and the U21 championship is their big event.

But how many are affected? Out of a squad of 25,How many would be doing the leaving 6/7/8? and then out of that 6/7/8 how many are sitting exams that have not concluded by then? You are talking about a tiny percentage of players and in my opinion that does not justify postponing an entire competition

Without wanting to sound like a proper culchie, the reality is that a good proportion of people do Ag Science especially in Kerry. I think that exam is done the day before the game so it doesn't really give much opportunity for players to prepare The thing is when I was doing my Leaving Cert fado fado, there was I think either 2 or 3 in my year who did Ag Science iirc. They were doing Biology and Biz Org and were looking for points, but none of those subjects listed were on offer in the school so did them outside. I did think Ag Science was likely to be the one that was most likely to cause trouble. Also back then it was pretty much all 17 and 18 year olds sitting the Leaving - there was no transition year in play so I'd say the only ones who were 19 were those repeating. I wouldn't be surprised if those doing the fixtures had a similiar enough experience to myself back when they did the Leaving and were thinking that was only a remote possibility that a tiny number were likely to be affected. Surely if a club has lads doing exams on the Thursday or Friday they could look for the games to be postponed? They'll never get it postponed for the Leaving. No game would go ahead in that place

Dingle 1-18 E Kerry 2-12, Kenmare 3-14 Gaeltacht 0-10, Crokes 2-12 Spa 1-13, Rahillys 6-13 W Kerry 0-10.
Rahillys were too good for WK who laboured against the forward play of the home side; Rahillys were totally dominant at midfield through Gavin O'Brien and Tom Hoare and with Jack & Gearoid Savage plus Eoin O'Carroll in fine form they racked up 4 goals by half time, 2 from penalties both converted by Jack Savage; Rahillys hit the ground running on resumption and Gavin O'Brien having fielded the throw in was on hand to finish to the net, 5-7 now to 0-4; Rahillys rang the changes introducing their full complement of subs running out easy winners 6-13 to 0-10. Apart from those already mentioned, Karl Mullins made a welcome return to competitive football and was a commanding figure in the half back line throughout.

Laune Rangers gave a walkover to South Kerry as did Kilcumin/Rathmore to Stacks. Very poor form by those clubs not to put out a team for a championship game. A hefty fine from the county board is sure to follow

Premier Laune Rangers had 17 players missing and were unable to field last night - approx. 10 players doing exams, 3-4 in America and 3 injured - their hands were tied they looked to push the game to the weekend or the start of next week but I don't think South Kerry were willing to change. It's tough that Rangers had such a young U21 team with a lot of them doing the Leaving

Why didn't they join up with Mid Kerry in that case? Make it a clean 16 team championship, avoiding the need for a prelim game. Fair enough if you don't have the players but realistically it will be a long time again before they are let out on their own at this level

premier ,you sound like someone on a fixtures committee ,step 1 get the games out of the way , the competition cannot be held up for a minor player or exam player , so poor lads who are not minor or over 18 doing leaving and not finished exams cant play under 21 football. Im told laune rangers would have no problem fielding a team this weekend and maybe south kerry who seem to have a fine selection would have been better off trying to facilitate rather than getting walk over before next round .

Clown - are you proposing to do the same with Kilcummin and Rathmore who gave a w-over as well? As stated Rangers had approx. 10 players doing exams this week - it just so happens their U21 panel is quite young - no problem fielding a squad and a very competitive one at that if given a couple of days grace. I think the Co Board should look at trying to get 1 round played before LC starts going forward to allow them a little flexibility for any sides caught with exams like.

The Leaving Cert started on 8th of July. The majority of students were finished exams last Friday, judging by the numbers out around town anyway. The only papers left that would interfere with playing the games last night are
Wed 22nd Design & Communication Graphics
Thurs 23rd Argicultural Science Russian Music
Fri 24th Italian Japanese Technology Religious Education Applied Maths

At the start of the year they did know that those players would be doing the Leaving Cert and it is always fixed for the Wednesday of the last week of the Leaving Cert. They can't be giving out about it the week of the game when the facts were there long in advance. With regard to your comment about Kilcummin/Rathmore, I would rather they join into the Eoghan Ruadh division and make them competitive. Better they play a game with a divisional team than no game at all

I had three students who I taught applied maths to: one student did seven (no Irish), one did eight and one did nine.

ok , i think we are all happy that the leaving did not finish until today ,so some under 21 players could not commit to game on wednesday , is it not ironic that we think it is a wonderful gesture ( which it is ) that gaa games the lenght of the country are being changed to accomadate the soccer match at 2pm on sunday

I think we are getting away from the competition itself. There were still games played on Wednesday. The results have meant that the following is the line up for the quarter finals: Austin Stacks v Dr. Crokes Dingle v Keirns O'Rahilly's South Kerry v Feale Rangers Mid Kerry/Shannon Rangers v Kenmare Districf

How has it come to pass that the preliminary round game is being played on the night designated for the round 2. I would have thought the preliminary game would have taken place before round 1.

Any reports on the games tonight? South Kerry had a facile win over Feale Rangers who looked rather ragged. 2-16 to 1-03 is a good ole tonking. Dingle still look to be the favourites

Daingean Uí Chúis 0-15 vs 0-10 Kerins O`Rahilly's Mid Kerry Board 2-20 vs 4-0 Shannon Rangers Austin Stacks 2-8 vs 1-13 Dr. Crokes South kerry district Board 2-16 vs 1-3 Fánaithe na Féile
A full strength Dingle made hard work of beating an understrength Rahillys - Rahillys were down four starters (USA and injuries) and missed a penalty in an entertaining game. Mark O Connor and Barry O Sullivan at midfield for Dingle should have given them a platform for a more comprehensive win particularly playing at home but Rahillys gave nothing easy as they eventually lost their title by five points to a team that should have enough to go all the way.

It's a shame that the majority of these teams don't post at least a program of the games on line so the public can see who are playing, especially district teams. Mid Kerry were the only ones to do so and I commend them for that

Rahillys will be disappointed to go out but will be encouraged by the display, given that only four of the starting 15 are over age next year; in particular their minors on duty were outstanding from Shane Foley in goals to Sean Collins, Karl Mullins and Tom Hoare ( it was a pity he had to go off injured as he was playing so well) and Gearoid Savage- Collins had an excellent game and will surely be a Kerry minor next year. I thought Dingle were over reliant on Conor Geaney & Cathal O'Bambaire in attack and could come unstuck against a more physically imposing side in the latter stages of the competition.

Draw made last night - Dingle v Crokes should be a cracker (just might be worth the €8 they demand for U21 games)
Dingle V Dr Crokes (in Strand Rd on July 14th) St Kierans or Kenmare District V South Kerry (27th July at a venue TBC)
