A small bit of me wants Roscommon to keep their run going and make a league final. Great to see new counties coming through.
A much bigger bit wants a rematch with Dublin to wipe out the memory of those awful non shows in the 2016 league game and the 2015 All Ireland Final.

Oh me of little faith !
Even before the first two matches, on the basis of past experience I booked holidays for next week. Anyone recommend an Irish pub in Athens that is likely to be showing the game

According to GAA.ie the two semi finals are down for next weekend with both Saturday and Sunday dates - presume it will be later today before the fixtures are clarified (venue and dates) but most are suggesting a double header in Croke Park on Sunday.

Should Kerry prevail, the final is fixed for 4pm which is late enough for anyone with a trip to Dingle afterwards. But not looking beyond the Rossies....

what year did Kerry play the Rossies in a QF of the All Ireland.
I remember Declan running the show and also the mad soloruns out of goal by Shane Curran every time he got the ball. He lifted the whole place and sparked a revival by Roscommon in the second half.

Paidi's second last game in charge and the first time I remember seeing Kerry let a big lead slip. Fortunately we were too far ahead at that stage to lose but I recall having a strange sense of foreboding coming away from that match. That was followed by the start our modern adventures with Tyrone.

McStay is doing a good job with them. I honestly thought they would go down but they surprised me. There seems to be a real committed group of players and they seem to be taking this league very seriously. They will be really up for this game with Kerry. They have a fairly decent record against us and Kerry always seem to have trouble with them. I would love to see Kerry win but it wouldn't surprise me if Roscommon beat em too. I think it will be a close game.

That game 13 years ago v Roscommon could really be seen as the end of an era.
Kerry sleep walked into Tyrone. Paidi retired. It was a case of be radical or redundant after that.
Jack's era arrived and he brought in Aiden and Paul Galvin and a few more of similar vein.
There wasnt much expectation of major change after the Roscommon game .
2001 was seen as a freak result v meath. 2002 was seen as a one that was thrown away.
Tyrone had lost to Sligo in 2002. They were much improved alright in 2003 but hardly good enough to beat Kerry.........surely.

At the risk of tempting fate, I'd be very surprised if we don't get over this one. Roscommon were probably ahead of the pack in terms of preparation early on; now other teams, ourselves included, have caught up. Kerry are on a roll while the Rossies are coming off the back of two straight defeats. Can't say I was overly impressed with them in Killarney tbh; we were just brutal that day and still could have won.
Kerry's to lose this time, and then only if Fitz isn't bothered.

It was a malaise in our game of that decade never eradicated. In 2005 v Mayo in quarter they scored the last 5 points. Shocking.

I'm inclined to agree with you but I can't help thinking about the last and only other time we made the semis in their current inception. Jack was in charge. We had a storming League campaign ending with a draw with Mayo whom we faced the following week in the semi. That match ended in a draw and we literally threw it away in extra time. Different circumstances and I don't see history repeating itself but it shows that our biggest enemy can be complacency. The fact that we have already lost to Roscommon should count on our favour in this respect.

The question is, how far have Roscommon progressed since the second round of the NFL? That will be answered on Sunday. Losing their last two games, one to relegation threatened Mayo whom they will possibly play in a Connaught final might be particularly telling and the second to the Dubs with nothing to play for.

I was at Rossies v Donegal game and as things have turned out maybe I picked up a wee warning signal here; Cork got stuck into us as fear of relegation filtering through from Castleblaney, and we struggled with such surge from what is a poor enough team, we have to admit we did feel vulnerable for a while.
Now it's hard to put a finger on it but the harder Donegal tried against the Rossies the harder it appeared to get, that is a familiar scenario that has plagued many a team. Rossies are also better than Cork and in McStay they have a top class leader who knows us better than we know ourselves. They were also missing a few key starters v Donegal and they have a number of strikers who are absolutely on fire at the moment. A few seasoned observers felt they had a vulnerability that Donegal would grind them down to on the day, but that didn't even nearly happen, in fact Donegal didn't get a look in and I'd have to say it wasn't for the want of trying, it was all Rossies doing and they would have put away any team in the last 15 mins. They are spirited, workmanlike, tough as auld boots, lean, mean and they mean business, pure raw talent and they can be so economical in possession.
So anyone thinking this will be easy could well be in for a surprise if these signals materialise on the day. Those who attended the home encounter might put more flesh on the bone here.
Full marks to Mickmack for that class photo.
