Ya, I've been with one of our club refs for a few championship games in the last few years but can't give up any of my spare time to him anymore, I would if I could but most guys have no interest in going umpiring a match that doesn't involve their club. Disrespect for refs is a major problem in GAA and the powers that be make a few token gestures now and again but never tackle the problem seriously Same as that. I'd love to give more time but just can't at the moment. Thing is I guess if every club had to provide umpires then all clubs would benefit as it would mean neutral umpires at every league game. No quick solution here I'd say.

Sorry if it sounded like it was the ref I was aiming at. It's probably a club issue. Wasn't having a pop at Mike or his club I was just merely commenting on feedback I had received from a game. In general would you think it's achievable for clubs to be able to get 2 people to travel with a ref? I've actually spoken to a couple of different refs on this after matches over the last couple of years and from what I hear the refs are left on their own to sort umpires. There doesn't seem to be much if any support from clubs to help refs out. Maybe this is something that needs to be looked at. Each club is supposed to have a referee. I know some clubs struggle in this regard, but a ref on his own is only half the job if you asked me. I certainly don't blame the ref as he is giving up his time to do a job that no matter what will end up in abuse of one sort or another. It's a tough gig but they need support. I went with a ref from my own club a few times last year and they definitely need eyes on the back of their heads. Lads calling for everything and then expect him to be Johnny on the spot when his head is wrecked from lads crying wolf! I'd love to help him out more but I can't at the moment due to work and family commitments. Ya look it's not for this thread anyway. Same old soldiers that are already volunteering time to the clubs doing other jobs will be the only ones willing to put their hands up. Anyway back to the football.

At Beaufort v listowel game and while listowel will probably agree that they played poorly, great display by Beaufort missing padraig doona, mike been and Liam Carey. Nathan Breen outstanding for Beaufort surely worth a trial for kerry as well as ronan Murphy dominant centre field.

Was at the Rangers Rathmore game yesterday - what an unexpected cracker it turned out to be. Rathmore coasting in the first half - 1-8 to 3 points up at the break and could have been more hit the post and the Rangers keeper saving a 1-1; Rangers went at Rathmore in the second half and scored a great goal through David Costello while Rathmore responded with a Mark Reen penalty to push their lead to 8 points- Rangers then hit them for 2 quick goals though young Macbeth who was relocated to full forward. They were relentless in the last 10 minutes and drew level with a screamer from out the wing in the last minute. John Moynihan and Mark Reen were very good throughout while for a depleted Rangers Tyther and Macbeth were good as was Conall Kelly throughout. In the conditions turned out to be a very good game.

Speedy recovery to the Listry player, Gary O'Sullivan, injured against us Saturday night. Was a dreary night for all involved. Fair play to the Referee for abandoning the game as the supporters had seen enough let alone the players.

St Marys v Spa was supposed to be a cracker of a game according to a Spa man I was talking to. Good ding-dong battle all the way through with Spa winning by a point in the end. Spa 3-12 St Marys 1-17

Listowel 1-9 Laune Rangers 2-6 last night. Listowel came from 6 down in the second half. Scored an injury time goal to level it.

FT Listowel 2-11 Waterville 0-7 HT Listowel 1-7 Waterville 0-1
Watched by the usual bumper crowd of about 25 (excluding dogs), Listowel lined out minus Bryan Sweeney, Niall Collins, Conor Cox and Jack Maguire. Always comfortable in this one though and much too lively for what looked like an ageing Waterville side. First half was mostly one-way traffic and the visitors' only score came in the 29th minute, though both sides had a fair few misses. A Tom Mccarthy goal 2 minutes later ended the game as a possible contest.
Waterville came out battling and much improved in the 2nd period but the damage had been done and they never got closer than 7 or 8 pts. McCarthy scored a fine second goal at the death.
A Paddy Curran played today for Waterville, at midfield though wearing 14. Anyone know if this is the minor star of yesteryear? - I thought he had to retire but this man looked about the age alright.

I heard Paddy Curran was back playing with Waterville lately alright.
Wasn't at the game, but Emmets put up a photo of the match program online which had Sean Cathal O'Sullivan at 14 and Paddy as No. 22.
Not sure 'ageing' is a fair description of the team btw! 1 or 2 veterans, but no more than any other club I'd say!

Pretty sure the announcer had him at 14 though and he didn't call out the reserves so he definately started. Mind you, the programme bore very little resemblance to the actual lineups anyway; must have been 6 or 7 changes on the Listowel side alone. Waste of paper, really. You could be right about the age profile; I really wouldn't know. Just looked older on average, a few baldy lads too, and they didn't seem to have the legs for Listowel. Enjoyable enough game though.

Listry had another excellent victory this evening defeating Laune Rangers 10 pts to 9pts, this was a ding dong affair. Fantastic from Listry who now look set for another year in Div 2 but Rangers look doomed for Div 3, my how the mighty have fallen.

Yea great win by Listry but should have won by much more than 1 pt. had very solid set of backs and midfield did very well. Forwards left a lot lot to be desired some really bad wides from play and free taking very poor. Goalkeeper came up and kicked one great point but he made one very nervous mistake which resulted in a point for rangers which could easily have been a goal. But in fairness Listry showed great appetite and heart for the game. If they had couple scoring forwards they would be threatening the other end of division 2.

Listry thoroughly deserved win against a poor laune Rangers side. Dominated midfield throughout The Rangers continue to slip away not so long ago they were division 1. Sad times for them. Good to see such a large crowd in attendance. Lot of neutrals in attendance, perhaps mid week games is something the county board should look more into

Agree totally with the previous posts, if our forwards had their shooting boots we would have been out of site.

i see Listowel beat Finuge tonight 1-12 to 1-10.
Finuge now relegated.
Listowel close to within 2 points of 3rd placed St Marys with 1 round to go, and the last match being Listowel away to the Cahirciveen boys.
Gaeltacht v Spa is nicely set up for Round 11 as well in the promotion race.
Laune Rangers look doomed at the bottom.
Still hope for Bally/Foilmore after the recent last gasp winning goal over An Ghaeltacht in the last round. A win over Waterville in the last game would earn a relegation playoff at worst, with Listry and Beaufort playing each other in the last game.

Best Rangers can do is playoff given they beat glenflesk. But need listry to beat Beaufort and foilmore to lose or draw. Should foilmore win Rangers and Beaufort relegated if Beaufort lose, still all to play for

Listowel 1-12 Finuge 1-10 FT Listowel 1-7 Finuge 1-5 HT
Finuge goaled direct from the throw-in. They wouldn't score from play again until the 41st minute. In truth, they only stayed in this game courtesy of the most whistle-happy ref I've ever seen. Don't know who he was but he seemed to be playing a total no-contact version of the game. Everything was a free, it was crazy stuff. 8 points of Finuge's eventual total came from frees and they missed several more.
Listowel motoring nicely and should have won by far more. Having gone 1-1 behind at the start, they then racked up 1-7 without reply, only to concede 4 from frees before the break.
Unusually these days, the ref only played 20 secs injury time in the first half and actually played 30 seconds or so shy of the the 30 mins in the second, despite a couple of injury stoppages and much to the anger of the Finuge sideline. In fairness, they couldn't really complain about the result, though they had a point on the timekeeping.

After the results of the weekend, Rathmore, An Gaeltacht and Marys gone up. Laune Rangers make the drop to 3 along with Finuge. Playoff between Listry and St. Michaels to stay up. The rangers have fallen a got bit. Heard they were still depending on the likes of John Sheehan and the evergreen Mike Frank

They have great young players coming through though. Fiachra Clifford is on the Kerry minor panel and Patrick Daly must have been very close to it. They won the U16 Division One Final last night, scoring 6-14 in a cracking game (Scart/Cordal scored 4-9 themselves).

Fair enough thought listry showed great spirit and commitment when they were under the cosh in the second half, rose to the challenge and finished the game in normal time the stronger team, again as a neutral at the game which was always in the balance surely there was a ref available that could at least keep up with the play

Listry have done very well to stay up. St Michaels/foilmore continue to slide along with laune Rangers teams who were both very competitive in division 1 and county championship now in division 3
