Mary's may find it difficult to keep it going this year after the exertions to get to CP today.

Good wins by Listry and An Gaeltacht. Killorglin is no easy place to get points. Anyone with any match reports?

Crokes played Listry in the East Kerry league and I must say I was impressed with them. Crokes had a strong team named and won by maybe 10 or 11 points but Listry limited Crokes to very few goal chances...something that other teams have been unable to do in the pre season. They have a defensive set up but it is implemented well. I think they will survive from what I have seen but it will be a close shave for them.

Listry travel to Mary's at the weekend and that will be a fair test of them. Cahersiveen is no easy place to go but the fact that the county boys will be missing will aid Listry.

Beaufort and Laune Rangers in serious trouble after 3 losses in a row, Bally/Filmore could join them later today. Listry getting 3 points out of their first 3 games has been a very productive start for them. Mary's looking in ominous form already

Was talking to someone who was at the Listry vs Finuge game. Said draw was probably fair in the end. The report I got was from a Listry point of view but it didnt seem biased so I'll give a general gist for one main reason. Now, I understand that it's not easy for referee's to get fellas to go with them to games but Mike Moriarty showed up on his own yesterday. 2 teams playing Division 2 merely deserved better in my opinion. I won't go into much detail of the game but as a subject for debate, I think referee's should have a minimum of 2 people with them going to games. Cuts out so much off the ball carry on if fellas know there is eyes on them.

Glenflesk beat Bally/Filmore 1-14 to 1-7. Glenflesk will need all this form and more if they are to test Templenoe next week. Bally/Fimore play Skellig Rangers, real battle on their hands their at the rate they are going

Mike is from a neighbouring club and I know for a fact he always tries hard to get umpires for matches. This time of year it can be impossible get some of these lads as most are farming and this is lambing season. Sounds simple I know to get two lads but how many people would actually hold their hands up and go???

Wasn't having a pop at Mike or his club I was just merely commenting on feedback I had received from a game. In general would you think it's achievable for clubs to be able to get 2 people to travel with a ref?

Mary's second half surge did for Laune Rangers on Saturday night - Marys went in a point up at half time with Rangers having missed some easy frees to say the least. Marys came out in the second half and racked up 1-3 or so in the first ten minutes - Aidan Walsh owned the ball in the second half and Rangers had no one to mark him - Pauly Donoghue and Sean Cournane were constant threats inside with the Rangers goalie making a super save from Cournane I think with about 10 left. Rangers finished the stronger but left themselves too much to do. Marys will be one of the favourites for the Intermediate again - will take a good team to beat them.

In general would you think it's achievable for clubs to be able to get 2 people to travel with a ref? I've actually spoken to a couple of different refs on this after matches over the last couple of years and from what I hear the refs are left on their own to sort umpires. There doesn't seem to be much if any support from clubs to help refs out. Maybe this is something that needs to be looked at. Each club is supposed to have a referee. I know some clubs struggle in this regard, but a ref on his own is only half the job if you asked me. I certainly don't blame the ref as he is giving up his time to do a job that no matter what will end up in abuse of one sort or another. It's a tough gig but they need support. I went with a ref from my own club a few times last year and they definitely need eyes on the back of their heads. Lads calling for everything and then expect him to be Johnny on the spot when his head is wrecked from lads crying wolf! I'd love to help him out more but I can't at the moment due to work and family commitments.

Ya, I've been with one of our club refs for a few championship games in the last few years but can't give up any of my spare time to him anymore, I would if I could but most guys have no interest in going umpiring a match that doesn't involve their club. Disrespect for refs is a major problem in GAA and the powers that be make a few token gestures now and again but never tackle the problem seriously
