Is heavily linked with the Kildare job on twitter. He will be a big loss to our setup. Thanks for your service Cian and best of luck with your native county.

Himself and Bryan Murphy are set to be announced as the new Kildare senior management team later on this evening.
I wonder will there be another one or two of the management team that won't go on next season? Hopefully not. Cian will be a big loss for Kerry but nobody is indispensable. He has some record and is a very professional guy. He will bring Kildare forward, that's for sure. Best wishes in your new role Cian and thanks for everything.

Is Donie Buckley involved with anyone now?

CIAN O'Neill has been announced as the new Kildare football manager.
It was believed O'Neill would stay as selector with Kerry and Glenn Ryan was the leading contender for the job.
But O'Neill has decided to take charge of his native county.
He has an accomplished CV and his appointment will go down extremely well with the Kildare players who rate him highly.
O'Neill has won an All-Ireland hurling title as coach with Tipperary and was selector with Kerry last year.

Fair oul commute from CIT. I'm just glad Cork are too backward to have gone for him.

He never made a secret of wanting to manage his native county at some stage. I didn't think he would go for it at this stage as Kildare aren't great at the moment but best of luck to him.. Hopefully we will get a good replacement.

Best of luck too right. A key man in building the 2014 winning team, very positive all round, cutting edge coach and conditioning specialist. In hindsight Kerry and Cian have served each other well, both learning and profiting. The dynamic nature of our warmups always stood out to me. Our set up will have had 3 years learning his trade too. Fionn is a qualified conditioning expert and qualified sports scientist, though he looks like he needs another stone of muscle himself. Interesting to see who will come on board. I wouldn't be surprised if O'Neill had called this out from at least a year ago.
I always felt confident by Cian's and Eamonn body language on the line even if it did not always work out. I hope Murphy stays, good to see someone speak his mind and ready to challenge the manager, constructively and respectfully of course. You definitely don't want a line bickering with each other. Worth a load of points on scoreboard. Good luck Cian, you'll have plenty on the plate

Congratulations to Cian O'Neill! Not an easy task his taking on but fair play to him! Cian more than deserved the opportunity to manage his own. Moreover, a big thank you to Cian for his service provided to Kerry. I think 2014 in particular, especially in those energy sapping epic games with Mayo we weren't found wanting for fitness and finished the stronger side in extra time.
Probably a good move all round really - as same voice syndrome can probably set in with a coach after 3 years with a squad. A fresh voice with the Kerry squad is no harm but Cian will be a hard tough act to follow.

I think that now would be a perfect time to get Donie Buckley back. He's free since the Mayo management stepped down last night and he wasn't given a proper shot at it before with Jack O'Connor. I expect that Eamonn will be making an approach.

He will definitely make them better. Some team needs to beat Dublin in Leinster.

Best wishes to Cian O Neill . He did great things for Kerry football. I would presume Padraig Corcoran will be doing the strength and Condditioning now. It would be great if Donie Buckley was involved too.

Best of luck to Cian except when he is playing Kerry. Don't think we will score seven goals when he is on the sideline.

First part of the cleaning out of the backroom staff IMO ..... Team was well over trained and flat All Ireland day .... Who's next to go ?

A bit harsh in fairness.. Unless you've specifically heard this from someone 'in' the camp it is hard to say. Certainly we looked flat for much of the final, but I think that had as much to do with our tactics as anything else. I know a lot of Kerry folk were quietly very confident - and that can easily become players mindsets.. I'd be surprised if they over trained - Cian is a well accomplished coach even outside of his time with Kerry, and had been involved in a good few All Irelands, it would be amazing if they mishandled this part of the preparation. I'd say several other factors were at play, the weather, the dropping of the captain, Dublin's game plan of taking our corner forwards way out the field etc..
Best of luck to Cian - he served Kerry well!

Don't think we will see donie Buckley back. Around the time he left the management team last time I few lads I know around the squad that time said the players didn't see him as much of a loss. I think Eamonn took over the coaching of the team as well that year.
I know people will say look what donie has done with mayo. Only saying what I was told. i wonder if Pat Flanagan is at a lose end now Cuthbert has been dispensed with? Certainly had cork hopping of the ground when we played them.
I seem to remember the teams really developed physically when he was last on board.

Who's the rest of the backroom team misteallaigh abú? It would be good if Glen Ryan joined the set up. Maybe Johnny Doyle or Dermot Early, all three have links to the Micko era. It will be interesting to see what Cian brings back with him from six All-Ireland final day experiences. No one in Kildare has that level or expertise to bring to the jobs. Kildare are generally somewhere in flux in the pocket between the weaker counties and the top tier. It will take very little to bring them up towards the higher end of that pocket again. It is an interesting appointment and space to watch.

I had pointed out that the eventuality on here but I didn't see it coming so quick so I suppose the opportunity was overbearing under the circumstances and there are only a few great or potentially great leaders out there; it will be interesting to see what Mayo draws out of the woodwork and if Paidí was still with us he would be in the frame.

Is it commonplace for the coach to also be a selector in the way that Cian was with Kerry? Was Buckley a selector in the Mayo set up?
I would say that Cian had a lot of clout in the Kerry set up. Will Cian be the fitness coach etc in Kildare or will he have to get someone else for that now I wonder.

Donie was a selector with Mayo but as coach in 2011 with Kerry was not a selector-.think he enjoys being a coach without the added responsibilities of a selector; Mayo apparently want Stephen Rochford, former Crossmolina player & current coach of Corofin. Jim McGuinness could be a surprise choice.
