On paper it would be hard to see too many upsets but I do expect some surprises - many players absent for various reasons (injury, USA etc) and the available players may change some of the predictions given above.

Rahillys worthy winners over Crokes tonight, 2-12 to 1-8; Rahillys stormed into a 1-4 0-1 lead after 12 minutes, midfielder Cian Sayers getting their goal, Jack Savage unerring from frees; Crokes came back into the game with good play from mid field plus some fine points from out the field to leave the score at half time , 1-5 to 0-7 . The second half was tougher though, less free flowing and scores were at a premium. Rahillys however shut up shop at the back with all six defenders playing well and tacked on some good scores; it was 1-12 to 0-8 in the final minutes before each side scored a goal- Crokes from a good passing movement and a chip over the keeper for Rahillys from sub Gary Nolan.

Rahillys beating Crokes was not an upset at all, in fact Rahillys would have been favourites. Crokes are not particularly strong at this level and have players with very little experience. Rahillys on the other hand fully deserved their win and had players with much more experience including two Kerry U21s.

Entertaining game if anything in Blennerville last night between Stacks and Brendans, even if there was a lack of quality on show. Stacks showed some good battling qualities in the secong half missing a few key players.
Some interesting draws for round 2: 1. East Kerry early favourites for this competition have real quality all over the field, especially in midfield and the fowards with keane, kearney, o sullivan, o donoghue, and murphy big players. Kenmare will provide stiff competition tho, with the defending champions backboned by the spillanes and crowleys 2. Strand road should be too strong for the combination with plenty of players with senior experience. 3. Gaeltacht and Dingle will be a monumental clash back west, with both of these having very strong minor teams coming through in the last few years. Think dingle might just sneak the bragging rights. 4. Would expect mitchels to come thru comfortably against west kerry, and then face off against stacks in what could be a humdinger. These two teams had some titanic battles at under age with mitchels getting the better of them in both the minor and u16 county league finals.

I beg to differ regarding strand road and Kilcummin/Rathmore game.If the combination have all 5 of their Kerry U21's, they could go quite far in the competition, although only Donal Maher and Cathal Murphy lined out last night namely at full back and centre forward.Kelvin Teahan scored 2-2 from midfield as well. Also, There definitely should be a losers round.

How would people rank the last few teams left in? For those of us who wouldn't be in the know This will be an annoying answer but....it is dependent on so many factors- who is away for the summer, when games are played, what shape the lads who are away come back in, etc. With full teams out- I;d fancy Stacks

I would place East Kerry at the top- they have players from Spa( Kearney, O'Donoghue), Legion ( Conor Keane) , Glenflesk ( Dara Roche) plus Gneeveguilla, Firies- they posted a big score vs Kenmare in previous round; Gaeltacht would be a close second given their win over Dingle; Rahillys have guys like Jack Savage and others with senior experience- not much between the 3 Tralee clubs- semi finals down for week end of 19th next, Stacks will still be minus Horan & Jordan- East Kerry likely winners in my book.

East Kerry having Legion completely changes things and I should have checked that beforehand! That will obviously make them a more serious contender- as I said though a full Stacks team would win this in my opinion but if Horan and Jordan (at a minimum) are to be missing then they wont and East Kerry should do it. Rahillys wont win it (too reliant on Savage) and Mitchels wont win it and I dont know enough about who the Gaeltacht have and dont have for the summer. Without Horan and Jordan- East Kerry will win it but all teams at full strength- I would fancy Stacks

E Kerry would be hot favourites - Gaeltacht took out Dingle who should have been contenters imo so either Dingle were short players or Gaeltacht are strong. Stacks even with a full team would struggle to win this competition and along with Rahillys and Mitchels are more realistic contentders for the club championship later in the year - would expect Mitchels to make the SF and everybody will want to avoid E. Kerry in the SF draw.

With the Kerry Minors not being allowed play in the competition, Stacks would be down quite a few plus Horan and Jordan. I'd expect Gaeltacht and East Kerry to be contesting for the title. Any reports on last weeks games or starting line ups of the remaining 3 teams?

I think people are a bit over criticial on Strand Road. They have a decent team at this level with a number of players being having plenty of experience at senior level. 5 of their 6 backs play regularly with the Seniors and you have 2 or 3 three more then that feature at Senior level, including Jack Savage. They are highly dependant on both Savage and Cormac Coffey who were both outstanding the weekend, as was Gavin O Brien who between the game the weekend and the round before against Dr Crokes has given an exhibition in fielding the ball. He has been outstanding and has a great leap. KOR were lucky the weekend and Kil/Rath will really felt they left it behind them missing alot of simple frees. They had no Shane Ryan, if he was playing this would not have been the case. KOR didnt have the ideal preperations with a few players carrying injuries, and the minor team playing a championship game the night before. Jack Savage was also just off a plane and must have kicked 6 or 7 points in spite of this.
I'd have East Kerry firm favourites to win this out with each of the club teams on equal enough level. It was a big scoop for the Gaeltacht to beat Dingle last week I think and I'd fancy the Mitchells to be too strong for Austin Stacks. Who are all these players that Stack are missing though? Horan and Jordan and then Jack Morgan through the Kerry Minors? That's about it in my books but I'm open to correction.

Match report from Traleetoday traleetoday.ie/photos-john-mitchels-turn-over-austin-stacks-in-u21-county-championship/AN incredible late rally by John Mitchels, where they scored six unanswered points, was enough to knock Austin Stacks out of the Acorn Life U21 Championship. The victory has booked the Mitchels a place in the semi-final of the competition where Kerins O’Rahilly’s now await. Kerry U21 Niall Sheehy and captain Sean Moloney, inspired the Mitchels fightback scoring 11 points between them. It was Sheehy who looked to have got the winner on the 30th minute of the second-half, but there was time to add two more from Wayne Duggan and Niall Sheehy again to put a gloss on the victory over Austin Stacks who had led by six points at one stage in the match. Indeed, Mitchels went almost 25 minutes without scoring in the first half of the match. The Rock benefiting from a slight breeze and looked like they were about to cruise to victory. Crucially towards the end of the first half, Niall Sheehy, converted three frees on the bounce to show the Mitchels were not giving up without a fight, trailing by 0-5 to 0-8 going in at the break. Until Mitchels broke ahead late on, it really was tit for tat scoring in the second half. The sides exchanging scores five times in a row, with The Rock’s Ferdia O’Brien matching Sheehy’s score of eight points for the evening. It looked as though, Stacks, would just about keep the Mitchels at arms length, but eventually the dam broke and the green and gold tide was too much for The Rock to handle. With the score to put them ahead, Sheehy showed class to pick the ball up just outside the wing and cut in and dink the ball over the bar from a tight angle – it was coolness personified. Corner forward, Wayne Duggan, added an equally exquisite point a moment later, nailing a kick off the outside of his boot from 30 yards, showing what’s possible when their tails are up. A great win for the Mitchels, who now face another town rival, Kerins O’Rahilly’s, in the semi-final on Wednesday night, July 29. More photos below… Scorers John Mitchels: Niall Sheehy 0-8 (4f), Sean Moloney 0-3, Wayne Duggan 0-2, James Duggan 0-2 (f1), Sean Wrenn 0-1 Austin Stacks: Ferdia O’Brien 0-8 (5f), Sean Ryan 0-3, Jack O’Shea and Calvin Foley 0-1 apiece Teams John Mitchels: Josh Reilly, Argent Kastrati, Cian Sheridan, Pat Kearney, Garry Murphy, Frank O’Donnell, Sean Moloney, Mike Wrenn, Jake Moran, Jonathon O’Halloran, Niall Sheehy, Akeem Molloy, Wayne Duggan, James Duggan, Cian O’Brien Austin Stacks: Patrick Fitzgibbon, Paul Galvin, Eoghan McKivergan, Dara Scanlon, Jack O’Shea, Barry Walsh, Joseph O’Kelly, Ciaran O’Connell, Alan Duggan, Colin Griffin, Sean Ryan, Brendan Caball, Sean Dukes, Calvin Foley, Ferdia O’Brien

I have fancied East Kerry since the outset and see no reason to change- Gaeltacht have done well to reach this stage given their absentees, Eanna O'Conchuir & Tomas O'Sé; Strand Rd/Mitchels is a tough one to call- Mitchels beat a young Stacks side but Strand Rd are quite experienced and may well shade it.

Strand Road beat Mitchels by 13 points this evening apparently Big win alright for Strand Rd- overall they were too strong for Mitchels who lined out without Niall Sheehy; Strand Rd led by 0-8 to 0-4 @ half time but should have been more ahead in reality; they took over in the second half though and kicked on for a good win. Defensively strong with good displays from Cormac Coffey, David Murphy & Mitchell Donnelly, to an all action display from Cian Sayers at mid field and some great play upfront from Jack & Gearoid Savage- they will be underdogs in the final but are there on merit and will not succumb easily.

Thanks for the info. Delighted for the club to put two great u21 years back to back.
Sayers is meant to be pretty handy but I haven't seen him at all. Nights like this I rue living in Dublin!
