At risk of being laughed at, am I the only one who has reservations about the wisdom of starting Gooch at 11 against Cork? I am as big an admirer of Colm as anybody else but judging on what I have seen of him since his comeback I doubt very much if his pace is up to the level of Championship football just yet. Tipperary very obviously thought so as well and took advantage of that – particularly in the first half. Talent alone does not translate into success and maybe he could be better utilized as an impact substitute and given more time to build his confidence and speed. Also bearing in mind that we do have options and I cannot comprehend Bryan Sheehan not starting at center-forward.

I wouldn't laugh at you anyway but I had serious concerns about the Gooch but these fears have been largely alleviated after the Tipp match. I agree that Sheehan simply can't be left out of the side.

Finals for the past ten years 2014 was an aberration as regards the winning margin. Cork beat Kerry at semi final stage in 2009 and 2012.
I wont be at all surprised if Cork win as they always try hard in Munster (apart from 2014). What annoys me is how they never push on when they get to the knockout stages.
Cork might push us into the path of the Dublin blue train on the August weekend. It would put Kerry, Dublin and Mayo on one side of the draw and clear the path for Donegal to reach the final as Cork wont beat Donegal in a knock out game in Croker in August.
Tis all intriguing. Cork are probably a bit better that in 2014. Kerry are not as good as in 2014 going on the Tipp game but they were missing key players though. Interesting situation.
2014 Kerry 0-24 Cork 0-12 2013 Kerry 1-16 Cork 0-17 2012 Cork 3-16 Clare 0-13 2011 Kerry 1-15 Cork 1-12 2010 Kerry 1-17 Limerick 1-14 2009 Cork 2-06 Limerick 0-11 2008 Cork 1-16 Kerry 1-11 2007 Kerry 1-15 Cork 1-13 2006 Cork 0-10 1-12 Kerry 0-10 0-09 2005 Kerry 1-11 Cork 0-11

Anyone know what colour tickets are for which part of the terrace? Want to be at the town end of the Terrace preferably, the Lewis Road side is normally the 'Cork end" right?

I questioned after the Tipp game if those lung bursting runs into and out of defence made by Colm actually are required to maximise his value to Kerry. Regards playing him, he probably has to to regain match fitness. I remember when Pat Spillane made his comeback for Kerry in the spring of 1984 in the NFL, I think against Armagh, in Killorglin, after recovering from his injury been shockingly poor at the time. He subsequently went on to win man of the match in the All-Ireland final that September.

We could say Sheehan, Gooch, Maher, Moran, etc... who can you leave out? EF has shown before that he is quite prepared to have a quality team on at the end of the match and is happy enough to leave some cavalry on the bench.
I suspect Moran.

How about Moran & Sheehan in the centre? You can't possibly be dropping the 70 minutes man Maher.

All 3 of Moran, Maher and Sheehan are invaluable in my opinion.
I would go for :
Moran Maher Buckley Gooch Sheehan JOD Donaghy Geaney
There is a small concern in the half forward line with the absence of a true workhorse in the form of Donnchadh Walsh or Mikey Geaney, however I do feel that Johnny Buckley's workrate and physicality has improved immensely in the last year to 18 months and he can adapt to this role quite comfortably.

That to me is a HUGE concern with that half forward line. IMO Donnchadh has to start if fit with Geaney or O'Brien if he's not. I'm not sure that Sheehan fits on the half forward line, particularly on the wing. It may be the case that Moran has to wait to get his place back in midfield. Plenty of options certainly in midfield & HF line especially with Mikey Geaney continuing to progress.

I'd like to see Cork would deal with full forward line of Gooch, James O and Donaghy or Geaney. Gooch maybe in a slightly withdrawn role, but not so far out the field that he would have to chase back Loughrey like he struggled with 2 years ago or the Tipp centre back 2 weeks ago. If Sheehan is playing on the 40 with Buckley and Mikey Geaney/Donnchadh either side of him you would have Moran, Sheehan and Buckley all well able to pick out the men inside.

Maher is our Paul OConnell. Unthinkable to not start him. We need as many North Kerry men as possible in big games for the trenches, the ground war and the hand to hand combat especially now that we have only one O'Se left.

I am not for one second undermining Cork and I think the MF will be a tight affair. However, against Cork in the Munster final we could afford to go with Johnny and Sheehan as the half forwards, keeping in mind that Johnny is extremely hard working and a brilliant tackler and Sheehan has dramatically improved this part of his game recently. Cork are not an ultra defensive team and championship is about selecting a team to go out and win the game in front of you. Work rate is considered a necessity in the modern half forward. But, for me, it's horses for courses and against the likes of Donegal and the more defensive minded teams you probably require 2 extremely hard working half forwards, against Cork this may not be required.

It's fair to say that it will be one of the most anticipated team sheets in some time. For me Maher and Sheehan are nailed on. Likewise a fit David Moran. Johnny Buckley is a big game player and depending on how training has gone he will start. He was sensational last year when needed most. After that it's anyone's guess.
It's possible that Gooch will be retained on the bench. I don't expect both he and James to start together. Some huge calls to be made. I'd be hoping Paul Geaney does start. He deserves to.

I think I would see Anthony Maher as Kerry's anchor midfielder now rather than a motivational Paul O'Connell type figure in the team.
I'm not sure they'll keep the Gooch in reserve in his own back garden. It would be like telling the gardener to stay at home when the VIPs are coming to see the roses.

Some strange talk on here so far, Not sure how some contributors think we have the best panel in years? I dont agree with that at all, we have a good team but not as strong as the 00s teamRegarding Cork - I would not be over confident about this game. Yes we have not lost in Killarney In 15 years. Yes we hammered them last year in Cork, But we are struggling in FB line, JOD & others no real game time since last year. Lots of injuries early in the summer. Plenty to be concerned about. We had a stronger 15 in the 00s but the panel now is much stronger across the board.

Might be misjudging your interpretation of "his pace" mandad, but his pace looked nailed on to me. Thought he was the hardest working forward on our team if not the pitch. Ran his socks off. His decision making certainly erred a couple of times, but I can't countenance us taking the field without him. On evidence of the Tipp game ONLY Paul Geaney and big Johnny would for me the two most vulnerable to change.

A lot will depend on who is fit enough or who is carrying an injury. If all fit i would go with 1 B.Kelly 2 M.O'Se 3 A.O'Mahony 4 P.Murphy 5 J.Lyne 6 P.Crowley 7 K.Young 8 A.Maher 9 D.Moran 10 J.Buckley 11 B.Sheehan 12 D.Walsh 13 C.Cooper 14 K.Donaghy 15 J.O'Donoghue. Subs to bring on P.Geaney S.O'Brien M.Geaney BJ Keane T.Walsh D.O'Sullivan S.Enright F.Fitzgerald M.Griffin good options on the bench too.

It will be very interesting as to what team Fitzmaurice picks. I think Enright will definitely start to man mark Brian Hurley after the job he did on him in Cork last year. There is no way that they will pick The Gooch at number 13 either. For me Johnny Buckley won't start and Sheehan will start at number 12. Aidan O'Mahony will probably come in at full back for Griffin alright with Murphy losing out to Jonathan Lyne. There is a possibility that Donaghy may not start - he did very little against Tipperary. Paul Geaney to start at 14 and James O'Donoghue at 13 1 B.Kelly 2 M.O'Se 3 A.O'Mahony 4 S. Enright 5.J.Lyne 6 P.Crowley 7 K.Young 8 A.Maher 9 D.Moran 10 B.Sheehan 11 C.Cooper 12 D.Walsh 13 S O'Brien 14 P Geaney 15 J O'Donoghue
