Yes. The senior club championship finalists, i.e. Dr. Crokes and Dingle, are exempt from relegation from the senior county championship this year. The other nine senior club teams go into a draw for three groups of three (no seeding). The three groups will play off, with the three bottom teams in each group relegated to the Intermediate championship for next year. Should one team, such as reigning champions Austin Stacks, reach the County Championship Final this year while in line for relegation, the proposal will be re-visited. It is an open draw and I presume it will be a public one.

Farcical situation has now developed with Stacks one of nine clubs who will battle it out to retain their senior status; they are reigning county champions, Munster champions and current Div 1 champions; they are one of the favourites for this years championship yet will have to face 2 opponents to retain their current standing.

Stacks no1 in Kerry right now Undisputed double champions and number one team in Kerry at the moment. Lol. That just goes to show your inability to judge a game, just because they have won a county does not mean that they are the number one team in Kerry. Stacks will make excuses saying they were missing a few, Crokes showed their strength in depth missing a key forward in Jordan Kiely who has been our best forward this year. Jamie Doolan came in, Stacks don't have the luxury to be missing a key player and bring in the same quality, Crokes do.

A situation could now arise where Stacks, Legion and Stand Road might be faced in a relegation group and we will face one of our marquee clubs being eliminated from the senior championship, it does seem punitive but it is unlikely. I cannot see Michaels Foilmore beating any team at the moment so I think they will be one club to go, likewise with L Rangers unless they are drawn in same group. The other team to be relegated is up in the air.

Good to see you've finally seen sense on this one!!! I have no problem debating the topic Seamo. Do you genuinely believe from the pit of your stomach that Stacks are the best team in the county? People will say I am biased but I don't mind, I can comfortably say that I believe Crokes are a better team. If you went in to a betting shop and you got Even money on both Crokes and Stacks in a county final, who would you bet on? My money is on Crokes.

I was alluding to the procedure to relegate 3 clubs and I am sure Stacks will cope but the County Board will now have to look at a Plan B should Stacks triumph again in the county this year. Any club will suffer from a lack of key players Crokes included- Johnny Buckley was the main man in Tralee yesterday but once he departed Rathmore came more into the game- the wind was a definite factor but the second half score was 2-6 to 0-4 in favour of Rathmore which must be a worry for the Killarney side.

Also, I said that Crokes missing a few players was a culminating factor, not the only factor and if you go back the main reason was I believed that we had been on the road for a long time and the team was tired.........that was obvious. Stacks deservedly won the county championship last year and the county league this year, I am not disputing that. What I am disputing is that I don't believe they are the best side in Kerry.

I agree, Johnny Buckley was a big loss but I also thought that Ambrose did well in his absence. Johnny Buckley missing for Kerry is a loss not to mind for Crokes. He was the standout player of yesterdays games IMO. To be honest I don't think the second half score would be a huge concern for us because Rathmore had 4 scores more......with a gale force wind and it was inevitable that Rathmore were going to throw the kitchen sink at us being down 12 at HT. I think Crokes defended pretty well overall with a few minor exceptions.

I think an open draw makes it very interesting and if the scenario of crokes stacks rahillys been drawn in the same group happens so be it. There will be super games to look forward to. If one of them does go down it wont be for long. Crokes and Stacks are the best two teams in the county but Dingle are coming up really fast.

A potential situation could also involve Dingle, Strand Rd, Legion etc. No need to be smart about it. The situation would be revisited if a team were to win a county title and be involved in a relegation group. I don't believe Crokes have much strength in terms of county board delegates outside of the chairman, Im not sure about Stacks but I don't think any amount of county board officials would be able to influence a decision to favour a specific team. Anyway this is totally off topic and pointless to be discussing in this thread.

Crokes or Dingle cannot be involved in any potential relegation scenario as yesterday's victories mean they are both exempt from the relegation process.

I understand that Crokes and Dingle are now exempt, however one poster was implying that Stacks and Crokes have the muscle to influence decisions at county board level and my point was that the same rule applied for all clubs.

The county championship is a hybrid structure of clubs and divisions - this convoluted system of qualification for clubs was designed to try to ensure the "big clubs" would always participate in the county championship. However the possibility (probably inevitable) exists that one of these so called big clubs will fall short at some stage. A system has been designed to try to achieve a particular outcome - it would be classic if it failed to deliver in its first year of operation. Stacks have a mini exodus of players (USA) this year - not as dramatic as Rahillys had last year but this can have a major impact even on the big clubs.

Crokes, with the aid of an extremely strong breeze quickly raced into a 9 point lead registering the first 9 scores of the game inside the first 16 minutes. Johnny Buckley was extremely dominant aided by Mike Milner who also demonstrated his capabilities. Crokes defenders were well on top and the movement and cohesion of the forwards was a joy to watch in the first half. Rathmore had no answer to the Crokes forwards and it took them 18 minutes to register their first score through a Brendan O Keeffe free. Rathmore did stem the tide for 10 minutes before Crokes struck for their goal through the brilliant Johhny Buckley who accounted for 1-3 of Crokes 1-13 half time score, Rathmores scores coming from dead balls from Brendan O Keeffe. HT Crokes 1-13 to Rathmore 0-4. The second half proved to be a much different affair as expected with the strong breeze. Rathmore showed a bit of fight and knocked over a couple of scores to narrow the gap but Crokes replied through Daithi Casey and O Leary to bring matters back to 12 before Michael Anthony Kelliher rattled the net to leave 9 between the sides with 15 to go. 9 was not impossible with the strength of the breeze but some last ditch defending from the Crokes rearguard kept them at bay until Donal O' Sullivan struck for another goal to leave 5 between the sides with 7 minutes remaining. Rathmore persevered but nothing came for them and they eventually ran out 4 point losers but they will take pride in their spirited second half performance. Tom O Sullivan seemed to have the measure of Gooch, Paul Murphy likewise with Brian Looney. Daithi Casey had a decent game and Kieran O Leary had a good game. Johnny Buckley was outstanding before he had to retire through injury with 15 to go(not serious. Fionn Fitzgerlad was also replaced by his brother Cillian and Fionn will be disappointed with his performance. Aidan O Mahony had a poor first half but came into it in the second half, Paul Murphy won his battle with Brian Looney. Outside of the Kerry lads, Alan O Sullivan had a good game at wing back kicking 2 or 3 points from play. Jamie Doolan was a constant thorn for Rathmore and was always an outlet for Crokes. Chris Brady kicked a few in the first half but was quiet in the second half as Crokes seemed to retreat and invite Rathnore onto them. Final score 1-17 to 2-10.
I only stayed for the first 15 minutes of the Stacks Dingle game so I will leave someone else do the honours for that game.

Lads I think its agree to disagree time- this thread is just turning into the 2 of you arguing and very little discussion about the actual games. It would be nice to read some kind of report from those who were able to attend yesterday. traleetoday.ie/photosvideo-austin-stacks-exit-club-championship-at-the-hands-of-dingle/Castleisland Mart Senior Club Championship Semi Final Dingle 3-10 Austin Stacks 0-11 AUSTIN STACKS crashed out of the club championship for the second year in a row at the hands of Dingle. A goal from Paul Geaney with the last kick of the first half set the men from the west up for the second where they would be aided by the breeze. Two further goals, from midfielder Barry O’Sullivan and once again from Geaney, would seal the deal for Dingle who will now go on to play Dr Crokes in the final. Austin Stacks were much the better side in the first 15 minutes of the match and led by five points at one stage. Corner forward, David Mannix was on fire in this period, notching up four scores and looking dangerous. With Stacks in the lead by four and the first period drawing to a close, Dingle forward Matthew Flaherty made a run at the square. His attempted shot was blocked and fell to Paul Geaney, who showed the aerial ability which bagged him a goal in the All-Ireland Final. The inter-county star turned to knock it under Jonathan Conway in goal. With that, the sides went at the break Stacks 0-7 Dingle 1-3. Building on that momentum, Dingle came flying out of the traps the second half. After two quick-fire points, they found themselves four points in front three minutes into the half when Paul Geaney hit the net once more. It was a lead they would never relinquish. For the remainder of the game, Stacks tried to eat into that lead, but never got close, in fact they would only kick two points from play the entire half. This youthful Dingle side were looking fitter and faster, Kerry minor, Mark O’Connor was entrusted with keeping an eye on Donaghy and did a fine job, although quality ball was at a premium for the 2014 All-Star. With 13 minutes left, Dingle scored their third goal to stretch the lead out to seven points. This time it was Kerry minor from last year, Barry O’Sullivan, doing the damage. It was a disappointing display by the Rock, but the defeat to Dingle last year in the club championship proved to be a turning point for a side that went on to win the county championship. A lot of soul searching will come after a nine point defeat. Who knows? It could be just what they needed. Scorers Dingle: Paul Geaney 2-3 2f, Barry O’Sullivan 1-0, Mikey Geaney 0-1 1’45’ and Conor Geaney 0-2 2f, Matthew Flaherty, Tom O’Sullivan and Breándán Kelleher 0-1 each. Austin Stacks: David Mannix 0-6 3f, Shane Carroll 0-1 1f, Kieran Donaghy, Fiachna Mangan and Fearghal MacNamara 0-1 each. Dingle: Sean Flaherty, Conor O’Sullivan, Brendan Kelliher, Patrick O’Connor, Gavan Curran, Mark O’Connor, Patrick Devane, Dara O’Sullivan, Barry O’Sullivan, Matthew Flaherty, Mikey Geaney, Paul Devane, Tom O’Sullivan, Paul Geaney, Mark Evans Substitutes: Conor Geaney for Dara O’Sullivan, Tom Leo O’Sullivan for Conor O’Sullivan, Johnny B Brosnan for Paul Devane, Cathal Bambury for Marc Evans Austin Stacks: Jonathan Conway, Ronan Shanahan, Barry Walsh, Denis McElligott, Ciaran O’Connell, Fearghall McNamara (c), Sean Ryan, Barry Shanahan, Conor Jordan, Mikey Collins, Shane Carroll, Fiachna Managan, David Mannix, Kieran Donaghy, Shane O’Callaghan Substitutes: William Kirby for Barry Shanahan, Pa McCarthy for Ciaran O’Connell, Colin Griffin for Barry Walsh, Dale Counihan for Fiachna Mangan, Jack Morgan for Mickey Collins
