Well, well, well.
I suppose Cuthbert will be on the blower to Noelie sharpish ahead of the game Sunday.

Is Paul still living in Dublin? Hell of a commitment if so. He'll be useful in training.

There will be blue murder for places now, Sheehan, D Walsh, T Walsh Buckley, Geaney, Gooch, O Sullivan, Galvin and they are just the big guns for the half forward line !!! Inside Jameso, Geaney, Donaghy, BJK, O Brien O Leary,, that is fourteen serious forwards going for six places,, now that is every managers dream problem.

Well, anyone see that coming?
If the hunger is there which I have no doubt it is fair play for coming back and putting himself through the riggers of inter-county football again. Hard to see him make a massive impact though and Id prefer to see us breaking in new talent, still he's a legend and I don't think his old buddy could have said no.

Not so sure about this.
Best to continue to move on when we already have done so. Paul is a legend, everything was said when he retired and that was a sad day, but we've won an All-Ireland since then and also added Gooch and Tommy to the panel. This isn't constructive to the development of younger players.

Hopefully this isn't like Sean o Sullivan who made a return only to retire again as he taught he would be able for inter county again only to realise he wasn't

I really don't think Eamon is man for sentimentality. Undoubtedly there is a plan for Galvin. I hope it's a positive return for him will be bloody great to see him in the green and gold again though eh...

He was playing in a challenge game against the U21s tonight. Came on as a sub. Seniors beat the U21s comfortably.

Half forward and no chance of video material, it was way too cold to take the hands of the pockets. He was closely followed by the paparazzis so I'd suspect there will be photos in the paper tomorrow.

I wish him all the best, the record of sportpeople making comebacks is mixed to say the least. Also it is quite late in the year to be starting from scratch, I presume Paul is the type to look after himself and would still have a decent level of fitness.
My feelings are mixed on this. On the one hand we are giving youth its fling and it worked last year so how does Paul fit in? On the other hand I'm sure Eamonn would not have brought him back if he didn't think he could add to the panel and he may have a specific role in mind for him. Interesting times.

Those are worrying comments about the gooch.
He will do well to be back before the end of the league.

Simple scenario, Éamonn would not refuse him entry to the training panel and that is where it is now. Like anyone else, if he will add to the equation he will progress and you have to admire him. That Marc didn't start vs Mayo means there is no negativity re cronyism, as it can only be seen as strictly business.
I suppose last year we were dealt a terrible blow with Gooch when things were already looking grim, and now just when we thought things couldn't get better this happens. Is ait an mach an tsaol, made my day, welcome back Paul.

Kerry legend Eoin Liston has revealed his shock at the return of Paul Galvin to the Kerry panel and feels his best chance of playing is as a defender.
Kingdom manager Eamonn Fitmaurice tonight confirmed that Galvin is back in the Kerry panel and trained with the squad tonight.
With a wealth of attacking talent available to Fitzmaurice, the Bomber Liston feels that Galvin, who won four All Ireland titles as a forward with Kerry, will adopt a more defensive role.
“I was shocked initially, I am still a bit shocked,” said Liston.
“Then I was thinking and seeing what logic is behind it. I am trying to put myself in the position of the management team. I would think it’s to come back as a defender, initially as cover, and to make it competitive in training and then to see if he can win a place in the team.
“There is a huge competition for places in the half- forward line. Michael Geaney, Donnchadh Walsh, Darren O’Sullivan, Buckley, Gooch and Tommy Walsh. They are well covered in half forward line.”
But Liston feels the return of Galvin after his 13-month retirement will offer Kerry football plenty of experience and a very viable option in defence as well an undoubted boost on the training pitch and in the dressing room.

“He has always kept himself in good shape. He is obviously enthusiastic about coming back. The management team are saying 'let’s have a look at him, see how it goes and then make a call'.
“He will make it busy for forwards in training matches if he gets up to level of fitness required.”
While Liston has little doubt that Galvin will offer Fitzmaurice and Kerry something in defence, he is acutely aware that he has been tried in that position before.
“He brings experience. They tried him as defender before he retired and things weren’t going well for him at the time and he packed it in.
“But he is obviously mentally fresh and has thought a lot about it. I have great faith in the management team and Galvin and that he can get back up to the required level.
“He has been a great competitor and there is a challenge there for him now. He will be told very quickly by Eamonn if it is or isn’t working out.

There I was today thinking that Donaghy is so wired up about being captain that his season could implode like Galvins in 2008. A few hours later and I learn that Galvin is back. I don't know what to think.

I was flabbergasted when told of this today. Hard to believe. As far as I can recall, he said last year he had lost his appetite for the game, that he had a lot of business interests, commuting from a Dublin was a chore and that he was preparing to get married. What has changed?
I simply cannot see the point of this decision or indeed the putative value to the team. We have been cruising along nicely, blooding an impressive cohort of new lads. we even won the All-Ireland last year!
How will those young lads react, who have been doing the dirty work last winter and this winter, to the possibility of being asked to step aside to accommodate Paul? The official panel has a finite number. They may not be too pleased to the suggestion; "please apply again next winter"
From Paul's point of view? He has been a truly great footballer and his status in Kerry lore is secure. The most likely result for Paul is continuing disregard match officials and torrents of abuse from followers. You don't need that Paul. And remember, comebacks are rarely successful. Say it ain't so Paul.

Exciting news. How the management team is going to keep everybody happy is mind boggling with so many players playing so well in the league and with so many of the seasoned campaigners still to return. Mike McCarthy retired, came back and was as good as, if not better than before. Tadgh Kennelly made his comeback from Aussie Rules. Tommy Walsh is doing the same now. Paul Galvin brings experience, colour, character and individuality, as well as being a great team player. He'll be fighting as hard as anyone to get on the panel and from there to get on the team. It's long gone from being a fifteen man game and it's a wonderful situation for the management team to have so many players available to choose from, especially if injuries crop up and also with this black card thing. Age doesn't matter, whether young, middle range or 'old' if a player proves he's good enough to do battle. I wish Paul all the best after his rest and I hope that he and the rest of the team go on to bring further glory to the Kingdom in 2015.

Surprised with Veteran's view and while I appreciate, and of course respect, the merits of the argument, I wonder what Vet things of what I had said a few comments previous?
My view is to let him at it, and the player knows best as the retiring Cats confirm, if Paul is a best option in a given situation then it wouldn't be the first time he swung a game and that could be any game. And it all just didn't happen today, I'd say Fitzy would have initially told him to 'think again'. A small part of me is cautious but overall I am over the moon; no matter how much it pisses the rain we won't have a dull moment 'till well after Puck, maybe Listowel Races, some Harvest festival 'twill be Vet!

Not sure what to make of this news,Paul will doubtless be a great inspiration to some of the younger lads but I'm dont know if he will poach a starting place on the team. This could be a very interesting year to be a Kerry supporter.

Paul will have a pile of work to do to contribute in a meaningful and worthwhile way, probably with an intermittent brief to collect breaking ball behind the scrum. An interesting sub plot never the less which tightens further the tight rope.
