Hi All North Kerry Hurling Folk
My girlfriend is from Castleisland and she works in Tralee and I am moving down to Tralee for work next year. I play with Louth in the Nicky Rackard cup, decent enough standard. She wants to move out by Banna Beach so we would be looking to live in one of the North Kerry hurling villages.
Are any of the Senior hurling clubs recruiting for 2015, as I would be mad for road once I get down there!
P.s, we probably won't know which village to live in until Feb due to starting work and renting available.
Thanks lads.

Use your renting period to take stock. If I was you I'd keep my head down and tell nobody, that way you will form a view that will lead to what is best for you and without undue influence. Apart from appreciating the world beating skill that is hurling, I'd know little about the local scene, apart from the fact that you will be in good company where ever you go.
One angle might be to gauge your standard against that of the various teams, you want game time with a team that takes things serious.
And the best of luck man, how about a wee county man raising Liam for The Kingdom!

Fair play ballythefireside. I will take your points and board. Has passed by a few of the villages a few times and they seem nice country villages.
As for Louth man lifting Liam, we can all but dream!!
Thanks

hi weecountyhurler. Do you play a bit of football too. If so, Ardfert or Lixnaw cater for both and too a good standard. Do you mind me asking about Louth hurling... what part of the county is it strong in. Dundalk and Drogheda are soccer towns mainly so I assume its out the country where the land is good. You could do worse than to live near Banna Beach! And here is a little promotional video for Ardfert before Mossie tries to nab you or Kilmoyley!

Some gas replies there about the hard hurling in Kerry ha!
We have 6 senior hurling clubs in Louth, but realistically 4 of them have a good chance of winning the championship with the other 2 been competitive and solid. Your right about the soccer towns.
I come from the hurling club Knockbridge about 5miles outside of Dundalk. Believe it or believe it not we used to compete in the Leinster Senior Club Championship from 2000 to 2005 and bet the Carlow senior champions Naomh Eoin in 2003 and lost out to Oulart the Ballagh in 2005 in the q-final. Louth county hurling never reflected how strong some of the clubs were.
We have declined since then and to answer your question there are 3 rural clubs in Dundalk, 2 rural clubs in drogheda and 1 halfway between both towns in Collon. It's a very very tough job to keep it going up here against a mind boggling county board. We just don't have the numbers either to be honest.
I wouldn't play any Gaelic really, but I play a good level of soccer in the district leagues so hurling and soccer are my games.
Would most clubs train 2 Nites a week and a game at the weekend?
Thanks

You will probably get you into Lerrig Soccer club via the current transfer window if you go with Kilmoyley hurling club. A good upcoming hurling team too.
You have other options....a combination of Ballyheigue hurling club and Kerryhead rovers! And some Ballyduff hurlers line out with Rattoo rovers soccer club.
Endless possibilities. Drive a hard bargain.
(ps.. Guinness in best in Ardfert)
as regards trying to keep hurling alive.... Kevin Cashman used to write great articles back in the 80s on hurling in the Sunday Tribune. Back then he was saying that hurling isn't safe in the hands of the GAA and a Government cultural body should take on the preservation of the ancient game!!!

Thanks Send me a pvt msg re the Soccer ( the hurling boys will kill me ) Tralee Dynamos are based in town and I know a few of the lads who play there...they would be the best team to play with. Ardfert have a soccer team but they dropped down 3 divisions last season which had more to do with their double jobs of footballers and hurlers.

Do we need to get a breaking news scrolling banner to scroll across the bottom of the site and some Radio Kerry reporters stationed outside the various North Kerry hurling grounds for coverage of the first big transfer story of the year?

CSKA Tralee are without doubt the coming side in the KDL .They have a very exciting philosophy .
Their are nine Senior Hurling clubs and I'm going to recommend Causeway because nobody else has and they won the County Under 21 last year.
Crotta O'Neills and Kilflynn Santos is also and exciting and mouthwatering prospect both play a short passing tik-taka style . Kilflynn is located just six short miles from Tralee.

Some of the team names in KDL are gas! Dew Drop Dynamos was always a fave of mine Team names in the district leagues is just one of the many reasons why I can't take them too seriously. I befriended a fellow Fleming while I was living in Dublin who was bought by a Premier Division side in Dublin from the Anderlecht academy. We often played 5 a side at the Spawell in Dublin and even though I never took it seriously (it is not my game at all) and I have few skills we did well in a local league. Not so much based on his skill, but he was better than us of course (otherwise I would have been bought by a Dublin club). The level of the soccer was very disappointing though and even he was convinced that if I had applied myself a bit more during my early youth I could have played in the first division. I sincerely doubt that is true, but having seen soccer games at all levels in Ireland, I think a gifted youngster is better off sticking with the hurling and the football, and if must be rugby. If one is any good, you should be abroad by the time you hit puberty. That is a system that can't really be sustained in my opinion. Every Irish soccer player that has any talent at all plays abroad bar a few that didn't make it over there for some reason.

No we havnt moved to Kerry yet. But I did see Kerry beat Derry In Christy Ring final and standard looks good. We lost to Armagh by 5 points in the Rackard cup and they lost to Rossies by a last min goal in final.
I would say we will be living around Ardfert, Banna, Kilmoyley or Ballyheigue area. Prob won't be as far North as Ballyduff or Causeway!
Who do people fancy to win the SHC in Kerry this year? I see Lixnaw are bookies favourites.
