One of the heart warming results from the weekend was the defeat of one of Ardferts juvenile hurling teams (not sure if u14 or u16) by Rathmore. Won well too. I didn't realise the caman was being wielded in Rathmore

Mike O’Halloran was at the delayed playing of the Division 1 County Hurling League Final last night…
Ballyduff 1-16
St Brendans 1-24
It is a long time since the Div 1 Hurling County League final was played in June but this was the 2014 competition final.
The Kerry GAA Credit Union sponsored Division 1 2014 Senior Hurling Final was played in Ballyduff on Friday night resulting in a win for St Brendan’s, but the main talking point after the game was the display by the great John Egan.
The dual star amassed 1-15, his points were from placed balls, 65s, a sideline cut and play in a master class of positional play and accuracy from every angle.
Egan was presented the man of the match award by Jack Harrington representing The Credit Union.
The first half was a pretty even affair with the teams going in at halftime 0-10 all, with Michael Boyle being very influential for Ballyduff.
Michael was denied two goals by two splendid saves by Darren Delaney in the St Brendans goal. Padraigh Boyle had contributed 0-6 for Ballyduff.
Ballyduff had the first three scores of the second half – one each from Padraigh Boyle, Daniel Carroll and Eoin Ross – before Daithi Griffin sparked St Brendan’s into life with a point, Kevin Opren added another before Egan goaled and then added a point.
Padraigh Boyle replied with a goal for Ballyduff but that was then end really of the Ballyduff challenge.
St Brendan’s were further energised by the introduction of Eric Leen. The minor had a major influence on St Brendan’s second half performance and they ran out comfortable winners in the end in a game that was played in a great spirit and gave referee Tom Godley very little to do apart from record scores.
Ballyduff Hurling Club is hoping to be the venue for some of the hurling championship games (due to the temporary closure of Austin Stack Park).
The pitch tonight was in beautiful condition and work in ongoing in upgrading the facilities for patrons.
I guess Ballyduff will be hoping that their pitch will not be the venue for the final as, if it is, they will not be playing in the final and given tonight’s performance it is very difficult to see them progressing to the final.
If Ballyduff get all the players back that were not available tonight, they might be in with a shout.
I spoke to people before the game and they quietly fancied St Brendan’s to win the Neilus Flynn trophy this year and after their performance tonight it is very hard to look beyond them.
St Brendan’s played without Kevin Hannafin and Cian Hussey and John Galvin, in young Eric Leen they have another star in the making.
It is also important to point out that St Brendan’s can now concentrate on hurling since Ardfert are out of the football championship.

Good win for Lixnaw last night over a determined Ballyheigue side. What are people's predictions for this weekend?
Crotta Vs Kilmoyley -- Kilmoyley to win. They look tough this year, probabaly a lack of scoring power but very solid defensively from what I've seen. Crotta can never be written off with Nolan and Weir though
Abbeydorney Vs St Brendans -- St Brendans to win easily. ODorney down the O Learys and O Connell, massive losses to the club. St Brendans certainly good enough to win title but if you stop Egan, you stop St Brendans.
Ballyduff Vs Causeway -- The tie of the Round. Causeway to win. Will be a tough match. Ballyduff over reliant on the 2 Boyles with the majority of their scores coming from Mikey and Podge. Will be interesting to see how Causeway line up this season after the disappointment of last year. Lots of new faces and new management.

Some win by O Dorney yesterday over St Brendans,
St Brendans got off to a great start getting an early goal from Tim Hannafin, they were moving the ball well but then for some reason they just stopped playing and struggled for the rest of the game,Abbeydorney grew in confidence as the game went on,St Brendans went in leading at half time 1-6 to 0-5
PJ Keane was in great form on the frees,David Egan caused the Ardfert lads a lot of trouble as did Kieran Hannafin and the defence was well led by Aidan Healy who once again was Abbeydorneys main man,the more he came into the game in the first half the better Abbeydorney got,
St Brendans can have no complaints the better team won yesterday, they will now have to re group and get ready for a game against Ballyheigue in the losers round.
Crotta and Kilmoyley will have to go again, the first half was all Crotta and they led well at half time, the Crotta goal came from some quick thinking by Shane Nolan and Crotta went in at half time leading 1-10 to 0-5
Kilmoyley made a few changes at half time and they took over the game,James McCarthy,Adrian Royle and Daniel Collins all came on and they all had an impact on the game and they looked like they would get the win but fair play to Crotta for sticking at it,a draw was a fair result in the end

Saturday 25th July in Abbeydorney
Causeway V Lixnaw 7pm
Sunday 26th July in Causeway

Monday 3rd of August in Ballyduff
Kilmoyley/Crotta V Abbeydorney 6.30pm

One thing I noticed yesterday that Abbeydorney and St Brendans didnt use the the astro turf or the the small pitch in Causeway to do their warm ups while the first game was going on,Abbeydorney stayed in the school hall while St Brendans warmed up out in the car park in the field behind the stand!!

traleetoday.ie/photos-abbeydorney-shock-st-brendans-with-second-half-masterclass-2/Abbeydorney 1-17 St Brendan’s 2-10 ABBEYDORNEY upset the odds with an awesome second half display to beat fancied St Brendan’s on Sunday afternoon. A period in the second half where Abbeydorney scored 1-6 without reply sealed the Ardfert side’s fate in this Senior Hurling County Championship first round match in Causeway. Ardfert were flattered by the four point margin, a goal in third minute of added time by David Griffin, put a bit more respectability on the scoreboard for the 2013 champions. In the early exchanges in this second game of a double header at a sun drenched Causeway – which looked immaculate from top to bottom – it was St Brendan’s who came out of the traps flying. After just three minutes they hit 1-1, the goal coming from Tim Hannafin who linked up well with John Egan who was loitering with intent and looking dangerous. Abbeydorney, showed resolve however and battled back into the game though their play was marred by a number of wides and missed goal opportunities. The first half ended with St Brendan’s leading by four points, 1-6 to 0-5. The second period of the game opened with both sides exchanging scores, but it wouldn’t be long before the dam broke and Abbeydorney unleashed a 10 minute spell of scoring which St Brendan’s had no answer. Abbeydorney, knocked over 1-6 without reply going from three points down to six points up. At this stage, John Egan’s ability to influence the game was non existent. St Brendan’s attempted to hit back and brought the game to within three points, but Abbeydorney showed resolve once more and hit back with three scores in a row putting them six points up with a minute remaining, the pick of the bunch being two fantastic solo points by David Egan who was ripping through the Ardfert defence. St Brendan’s would get a consolation goal in added from David Griffin, but the day belonged to Abbeydorney and the underdog. More photos below Abbeydorney: PJ Keane 0-9 (5f), Eoin Egan 1-0, David Egan 0-2, Brian O’Leary 0-2, Daniel O’Leary 0-2, Kieran Dineen and Ivan McCarthy 0-1 St Brendans: David Griffin 1-2, John Egan 0-5 (5f), Tim Hannafin 1-0, Eric Leen, Eamonn Corridon and Kevin Orpin a point apiece Teams Abbeydorney: Nigel Roche, Alex O’Mahony, Aidan Healy, Michael Hannafin, Niall O’Connor, Kieran Dineen, Brian O’Leary, David O’Mahony, Stephen O’Connor, James O’Connor, Darragh O’Brien, PJ Keane, Stevie O’Sullivan, Eoin Egan, David Egan Substitutes: Ivan McCarthy for Brian O’Leary (16), Kieran Hannafin for Darragh O’Brien (Half Time), Daniel O’Leary for Stevie O’Sullivan (Half Time) St Brendans: Darren Delaney, Rory Horgan, Jerry Wallace, Daniel Finnegan, Eamon Corridon, Darren Dineen, Kevin Orpin, Fionan Horgan, Denis Moriarty, David Griffin, Kevin Skinner, Stephen Leen, Fionan Maskessy, Tim Hannafin, John Egan Substitutes: Eric Leen for Kevin Orpin (39), Conor Flaherty for Daniel Finnegan (53), Jack Savage for Denis Moriarty (53)

traleetoday.ie/photos-shane-nolan-stars-in-thrilling-crotta-v-kilmoyley-draw/Crotta O’Neill’s 1-17 Kilmoyley 1-17 CROTTA O’Neills and Kilmoyley will have to go again in the first round of the County Senior Hurling Championship after extra-time couldn’t separate the sides on Sunday afternoon in Causeway. They’ll now have to do it all over again next Sunday, July 26 at the same time of 1.30pm in Causeway. Kerry star, Shane Nolan, shot the lights out nailing 1-11 in a match where Crotta led by eight points at half time, but due to some vital substitutions made during half time, Kilmoyley, clawed their way back into contention. It was the underdogs Crotta who performed much better in the early stages, well on top around midfield they were providing their forward line with plenty of ball. Shane Nolan would eventually hit 1-11, but during the opening quarter it was Philip Twomey and Paudie Quille who were making the dent in the scoreboard for Crotta. Crotta’s, dominance was rewarded on 22 minutes, when Shane Nolan hit the net for the first goal of the match. Catching the Kilmoyley defence sleeping, he hammered home a 21 yard free to the net before the defenders had time to line up on the goal. Kilmoyley responded with a free from captain Sean Maunsell, the last three scores of the half were rattled off by Shane Nolan giving Crotta an eight point lead at the break. The introduction of Daniel Collins and Adrian Royle to the forwards for Kilmoyley made all the difference, in the second half. They laid down a marker scoring the first four points of the half to claw them within touching distance of Crotta. When Adrian Royle hammered home Kilmoyley’s goal, on 38 minutes, they were now within three points and it was game on. The sides exchanged scores for the remainder of the half, either set of players not wilting in the summer heat. It looked as though Kilmoyley had snatched it with two minutes to go when Sean Maunsell, put them ahead for the first time in the match, but Shane Nolan had another say on that matter and hit an equalizing free to send the game into extra-time. The first period of extra-time was low scoring, with both sides still inseparable knocking over a point apiece in ten minutes. The second half however sprang into life and it was that man Nolan who took the initiative, firing over the first two scores from play. Kilmoyley then hit three on the bounce, two from Collins and one from Tom Murnane. It looked like Kilmoyley were about to do it, but Nolan hit back again with two minutes remaining to drawn the sides level once more. So a draw a fair result, both sides given their travelling support much to cheer about and enjoy. More photos below… Scorers Crotta O’Neills: Shane Nolan 1-11 (7f), Philip Twomey 0-2, Paudie Quille 0-2, Ian McCarthy and Jack Twomey a point apiece Kilmoyley: Daniel Collins 0-5 (2f), Sean Maunsell 0-5 (3f), Adrian Royle (1-0), Tom Murnane 0-3 (3f), Jordan Brick 0-2, Robert Collins and Michael O’Regan a point apiece Teams Crotta O’Neills: Richard Nolan (Capt), Darren Twomey, Cyril Lynch, Tom Cronin, Darragh Ryan, Sean Weir, Adrian O’Mahony, Tomas O’Connor, Jack Twomey, Ian McCarthy, Philip Twomey, Paidie Quille, Shane Nolan, Jordan Conway, David Behan Substitutes Tom (B) McElligott for Darragh Ryan (half time), Tom McElligott for David Behan (Half Time) Kilmoyley: Aiden McCabe, Seanie Murnane, Sean Dowling, Sean Nolan, Flor McCarthy, Dougie Fitzell, Tom Murnane, Jordan Brick, Luke Fitzell, Ian Brick, Sean Maunsell (Capt), Robert Collins, Michael O’Regan, Kieran McCarthy, Tommy Maunsell Substitutes James McCarthy for Luke Fitzell (Half Time), Adrian Royle for Kieran McCarthy (Half Time), Daniel Collins for Tommy Maunsell, Maurice Murnane for Robert Collins (Extra Time) Shaun Young for Ian Brick (Extra Time)

Looking at the pictures of the Crotta Kilmoyley game it looks like the pitch was made narrower, the sideline at the stand side is usually a lot tighter to the wire Could explain why a few puck outs went out over the sideline.

Good games last weekend with good crowds and atmosphere. The North Kerry clubs did a wonderful job hosting the games. They really should consider playing some of the early rounds in North Kerry even when Austin Stack Park is completed. Causeway v Ballyduff in Lerrig, Kilmoyley drew the biggest crowd and best atmosphere and Causeway really look like a well drilled, prepared and hungry outfit. Ballyduff were short Liam Boyle, Giles O'Grady and Paud Costello which needs to be taken into account. I hope Padraig Boyle's injury isn't too serious as it didn't look great as he departed the pitch. The pitch is Lerrig is a fantastic pitch for hurling and seemed to suit a fit and skillful Causeway side.
Causeway's pitch seems a little tight and I don't think this suited St Brendans who must be rattled by Abbeydorneys super second half show. Interestingly Kerins O'Rahillys and Kerry under 21 footballer Jack Savage came on as a sub for them. He has played under age up the ranks with St Brendans. Lixnaw looked a little rusty agaist Ballyheigue but signs were there that they will improve and the experienced heads like Pat Corridan, Maurice Corridan and Enda Galvin are back and hungry for more hurling success. Shane Conway looks like a great extra option for them in attack and brother Michael is fitter and more injury free this year. The game between Causeway and Lixnaw will attract a lot of interest at the weekend. Looks like a very open championhship which will add to the interest.

Crotta were two points up going into injury time but the ref played 14 mins injury time! It ended in a draw, went to extra time and Kilmoyley won in the end.
Ardfert beat Ballyheigue by a point.

What happened in the first game was a joke,I dont know were the ref got all the injury time, after Kilmoyley took the lead he then had to do his best to make a draw of it,Crotta can feel harshly done by.
Daniel Collins and Dougie Fitzell had good games for Kilmoyley,Collins got 1-11 I think,Fitzell sweeped up a lot of ball on the half back line.
Shane Nolan was again Crotta's main man,Philip Twoomey,Tom Cronin were also good for Crotta,
Kilmoyley play Abbeydorney next while Crotta play Ballyduff
The second game St Brendans just about got over the line against Ballyheigue, the conditions were alot worse during this game heavy rain and strong wind made it very hard for any bit of decent hurling to be played,
Philip Lucid got the most of Ballyheigue's scores from frees,Damien Casey scored a lovely point from the stand side in the first half, they can count themselves unlucky as they missed some great chances in the second half,in the first half as they seemed to find it easier to play against the wind,St Brendans also seemed to find it easier in the second half as well,
John Egan pointed some great frees for St Brendan's in the second half against the wind,Kevin Orpen who played corner forward last week was back at wing back and he had a great second half,Darren Dineen was also back to himself this week and he got on a lot of ball in the second half as well.
They now join Causeway in the Quarter Final draw.

Ya the referee for the Kilmoyley V Crotta was a disgrace. He held up his hand and came over to the linesman in front of us in the stand and said that there would be 4 minutes extra time. After 6 minutes of extra time being played Crotta were still up by 2 points. He then awarded Kilmoyley 2 very soft frees to level the game and then when kilmoyley went a point he had to play on again to allow crotta to level it up. It's a disgrace the game should have been over long before that. The penalty decision he gave in extra time for Kilmoyley was also very harsh in my opinion. I can not see what it was called for and it was the turning point in the game as it put 5 points between the teams. Fair play to kilmoyley for holding out at the end of extra they used their experience well and broke up any momentum that Crotta were getting with the breeze at their backs. They can go a long way in this championship. Crotta can go a long way through the back door also. Shane nolan is their main man but they have a fine team around him also.
Ardfert won by a point over bheigue. Bheigue had their chances. They are out of the championship but they can hold their heads up they had 2 very good performances and look to be building well for the future. Ardfert can count themselves lucky to get over yesterday but they will be a major force in this championship yet and no team will like to meet them

Kilmoyley 2 – 10 Abbeydorney 0 – 6 Kilmoyley advanced to the semi-finals of the 2015 Garvey’s SuperValu Kerry senior hurling championship with a 2 – 10 to 6 points win over Abbeydorney on Monday. Played in terrible wet and windy conditions at Ballyduff, Kilmoyley made the best use of a wind assisted first half to stamp their authority on the game and by half time were in a commanding lead and easily withstood the efforts of Abbeydorney to peg back the deficit. In fact it took Abbeydorney all of 46 minutes to register their first score, a point from P.J. Keane. Meanwhile Kilmoyley had built up a substantial lead, with Seam Maunsell hitting their first point after 2 minutes. Robert Collins followed with another as Abbeydorney struggled to even get the ball beyond half way during the first quarter. A spectacular goal from Sean Young after 9 minutes, when he pulled in the air from 20 metres out was followed by another in much the same fashion from the same player on 14 minutes. This left Kilmoyley 2 – 2 to nil ahead and the signs looked ominous for Abbeydorney. A succession of points followed before half time, one from Robert Collins and 5 from his brother Daniel. It was 2 – 8 to no score at the break. Now wind assisted, the good attendance was expecting an Abbeydorney resurgence. The had a close in free after 32 minutes but the shot for goal, taken by goalkeeper Nigel Roche, was easily stopped and the play went upfield where Daniel Collins widened the gap with a pointed Kilmoyley free. Abbeydorney were reduced to 14 players shortly afterwards for a second yellow card offence and their efforts gradually petered out. Kilmoyley were well in control and by the time Abbeydorney opened their account, the result was a foregone conclusion. Daniel Collins wrapped up the Kilmoyley tally with a 48th minute free. Thereafter Abbeydorney did up their game somewhat and added 5 points before the finish, 3 from frees by substitute Ivan McCarthy, one from P.J. Keane and an excellent point from play from Kerry minor player, David Egan. When referee, Cathal MacAllister, blew the final whistle there was a 10 point gap and Kilmoyley were safely through to join Lixnaw in the semi-finals. Abbeydorney have the consolation of reverting to the losers round of the competition. Scorers: Cill Mhaoile: Daniel Collins (0-6), Shaun Young (2-0), Robert Collins (0-2), Sean Maunsell (0-1), Jordan Brick (0-1). Mainistir Ó dTórna: Ivan McCarthy (0-3), P.J. Keane (0-2), David Egan (0-1).

Abbeydorney Vs Ballyduff will be played in Lixnaw (2pm) while Causeway Vs St Brendans will be played in Kilmoyley (6.30pm). Both Sunday 16th.
Hard one to call in both games really. Abbeydorney had great win the first day out but were well beaten by Kilmoyley in Rd 2. Though if Abbeydorney had gotten that massive wind in the first half it could've been different. Ballyduff were easily beaten by Causeway in Round 1 but came back and beat a decent Crotta side and as we all know Ballyduff do kick on a bit as championship progresses. I'll go for Ballyduff to bully Abbeydorney in this one.
Causeway barely broke a canter against Ballyduff in Rd 1 and really put it up to Lixnaw and indeed were better than them for a good chunk of the game. There was only 2 points in it with 6 minutes left before a few frees put nails in the Causeway coffin. St Brendans have been surprisingly very poor in their two games - first losing to an under strength (and clearly underestimated) Odorney side and then only beating Ballyheigue by a point in Rd 2 with John Egan scoring a couple of late points to win it. I'll go for Causeway on this one.
