Great win.
I thought putting this on at 12.30pm was a bit disrespectful. Could you see that happening with a football match.

Great win. I thought putting this on at 12.30pm was a bit disrespectful. Could you see that happening with a football match. I heard that the management requested the game for 12 or 12.30pm due to some players having exams in the afternoon. (mind you it wouldn't be the greatest preparation for an exam!)Meath were happy to facilitate Kerry's request.

Got the win in the end again this week, thought Meath were very impressive and raised their game today, they took the game to Kerry and were the better team in the first half
Jack Regan their wing forward was the best player on the pitch in that first half,Kerry tried a few lads on him but couldnt shut him down,Shane Nolans frees kept Kerry in it for long periods of the game,
Second half was a much better performance from Kerry even though it was only in the last 15 minutes when they managed to regain the lead,Griffin and Egan at midfield,Kelly as well they all started to get on the ball more and this pushed the team on,the full back line was shaky enough today Meath ran at them and Kerry were caught for pace,Rory Horgan came on and settled the backs down,he used himself well and cleared a good few balls and should be close to starting in the Semi Final,
Today we saw glimpses of Davy Butler who was unlucky not to get a goal in the first half just hitting the butt of the post,Padraig Boyle put over a few fine points before been taken off near the end,Colm Harty stuck a goal at the start and then found it hard to get on the ball after that,Mikey Boyle was back on form this week,he looked lively and whenever he got the ball he caused Meath trouble,Micheal O Leary was a loss today he will surely be back on the starting 15 for the semi final
Kerry still have a few gears to find but they are getting the the job done so far.

For 3/4 of this game, you couldn't see anything other than a Meath win. Stronger, sharper and more up for it, they led for most of the game and were 4 up at the break. Kerry goaled in the opening minute; from there on it was Meath pretty much on top. Kerry looked unnerved by Meath's intensity and their passing was very poor in the first half. Meath went 3 up courtesy of a mystery penalty after about 20 mins. James Logue made a fine save in play, only for the ref to blow for the peno; for the life of me I couldn't see what it was for. 3 points after half-time, with 1 in reply brought Kerry back into it but still Meath looked the stronger side until about 15 from the end. Kerry upped the tackling rate suddenly the passes were crisper and players found space to shoot. Meath, somewhat inexplicably, began to fade and Kerry cruised into a five point lead. Meath goaled in the final minute to leave 2 in it but ran out of time and Kerry hung on for a somewhat unlikely win.
Really poor crowd again, much less than last week even. Maybe the early throw-in didn't help.

thanks for the match reports folks. I cant ever recall John Egan playing at midfield, How did he fare. Bit surprising that the Patrick Kelly/John Griffin partnership was broken up.
Was Michael OLeary injured?
Its encouraging all the same that the bit of form was found when it mattered. Its do or die in the semi final and a draw will determine which team has home advantage

Kerry opened with a Colm Harty goal - a fantastic crossfield pass by Mikey Boyle. We stuttered after that, though. The Meath defence was superbly organised, but we also hit some very poor ball in and we were second to every loose ball in midfield. Jack Regan (no. 12) was magnificent for them, I think he finished with 1-11. His penalty put them 1-6 to 1-3 up (James Logue made a brilliant and perfectly legal save from Alan Douglas, but a defender fouled Douglas as he chased the loose ball, fair penalty imo) and Kerry were chasing that three point lead almost all through, with Shane Nolan's superb frees our main threat. That said, Padraig hit some brilliant points from distance and I would have aimed more ball at him. I thought David Butler looked very lively when he came on - in fact, I thought all of Kerry's substitutions were well made and well-timed. It was 1-13 to 1-9 at half-time, and that was a fair reflection. I thought the referee was poor enough, to be honest. He didn't seem to be aware of the advantage rule at all, therre were several occasions, on both sides, where he called back play for a free when the attacking team had a clear advantage. I also thought there were a few 'fair shoulders' allowed that make me question my knowledge of human anatomy....overall, it was a clean game played in a good spirit. Kerry were still very flat in parts and there were a lot of players struggling to take control of the sliotar with their first touch, but I thought it was a massive improvement on last week. Shane Nolan's accuracy was still our greatest threat, I think he scored 0-12, but we were still struggling to close that constant gap. In the closing stage, though, Kerry's positional switches really started to click at the same time as Meath began to slow down. It was 1-18 to 1-15 to Meath when Kerry reeled off eight points on the trot - Padraig Boyle's point was brilliantly deflected over the crossbar by Meath keeper Shane McCann. Willie McGrath (the small man got very high to claim some great ball, huge standing leap) got a goal but that was the last score of the game. The 12.30pm throw-in suits me down to the ground, to be honest, I have no problem with it in either football and hurling. The game was decent without being spectacular, I wenjoyed it far more than last week's match. As I say, I was impressed with the use of our bench.I thought best for Kerry were Keith Carmody (most especially in the last ten minutes, he came out with some very hard-won ball), Pa Kelly, Shane Nolan (think he scored 0-12), and the Boyle brothers. Meath's Jack Regan was my man of the match.

Kerry shake off dogged Meath to reach semi-final
Monday, May 11, 2015
Murt Murphy
Kerry 1-23 Meath 2-18: Kerry booked their place in the last four of the Christy Ring Cup after overcoming a stern test from a skilful Meath side at Austin Stack Park, Tralee on Saturday.
The visitors operated a sweeper system which caused their hosts huge problems for much of the game. It’s an approach which didn’t find favour with Kerry boss Eamon Kelly. He explained: “Meath played very well. That sweeper system is difficult to counteract. I hope it does not ruin hurling, the way it’s going. It’s difficult to break down, and they scored 2-18 but we should not have conceded that goal at the end. They were very strong in the air, and I thought we defended that side of it very poorly. We need to break down the sweeper system, so we will have to work on that. But we scored 1-23 which is good total to post.”
Meath started well with Jack Regan unerring from frees and then scoring a goal from a 20th minute penalty. Kerry were relying on Shane Nolan from frees after Colm Harty goaled in the opening minute and they trailed by four (1-9 to 1-13) at the interval. Kerry were much improved on the restart with Patrick Kelly, Keith Carmody, John Egan and Podge Boyle to the fore yet they still trailed 1-18 to 1-15 by the 50th minute.
Kerry, sensing they were in trouble, rallied with Shane Nolan (2) and sub Rory Horgan levelling the contest as Meath visibly wilted. Nolan, Padraig Boyle, Daniel Collins and John O’Neill pushed Kerry five clear before Willie McGrath scored a late consolation goal for the Royals.
Scorers for Kerry:
S Nolan 0-12 (0-10 frees), C Harty 1-0, P Boyle 0-3, J Egan and D Butler 0-2 each, D Collins, R Horgan, S Weir and J O’Neill 0-1 each
Scorers for Meath:
J Regan 1-11 (1-0 pen, 0-7 frees, 0-1 s/c), W McGrath 1-3, J Fagan 0-2, M Burke and E Marsh 0-1 each.
KERRY:
J Logue , B Murphy, P Costello, K Carmody, D Collins, D Dineen, P Kelly, J Griffin, J Egan, C Harty, A Royle, S Nolan, M Boyle, P Boyle, P Lucid.
Subs:
D Butler for P Lucid (26), S Weir for A Royle (h/t), R Horgan for B Murphy (44), J O’Neill for C Harty (63), J Flaherty for P Boyle (68).
MEATH:
S McCann, C Reilly, S Brennan, S Whitty, K Keoghan, M Burke, S Heavy, J Toher, S Morris, J Fagan, C Bird, J Regan, W McGrath, D Healy, A Douglas.
Subs:
E Marsh for C Bird (27), P Keogh for D Healy (66), S Quigley for S Morris (69). Referee: D O’Driscoll (Limerick).

Down played with two sweepers and Meath played with one sweeper in place,
Im sure the management will be using the two weeks break to try and get a plan in place to deal with this.

Kerry are Munster Under16 Hurling Inter-Divisional B winners
The Kerry Under 16 hurling team travelled to Mallow GAA complex on Saturday, 2nd May to take part in the 2015 Munster Under 16 Inter-Divisional ‘B’ competition. Although missing a number of key players through injury, Kerry still entered the competition with a strong squad of players and were confident of being competitive.
Kerry were drawn in a group with Cork East B and Mid Clare B. In the first group game, Cork East B defeated Mid Clare B on a scoreline of 2-07 to 0-09. This meant that Kerry’s first game against Cork East B was a must win encounter.
Kerry started the game well and led by 3 points to no score after 10 minutes. However, Cork East then began to settle and were soon level. Some good defending and goalkeeping by Cork East kept Kerry out on numerous occasions although Kerry were able to add a further 2 points before the break. The second half saw Cork East draw level with Kerry almost immediately. After this it was point for point until Cork East had the last free to draw level and the sides finished level on a scoreline of Cork East 0-08 Kerry 0-08.
Team: 1. Adam O’Sullivan (Crotta O’Neill’s) 2. Evan Murphy (Causeway) 3. Gearoid O’Mahony (Causeway) 4. Diarmuid O’Connor (St. Brendan’s) 5. Chris Creedon (Kilgarvan) 6. Gary Carey (Causeway) 7. Gerard Leen (Causeway) 8. Brian McAuliffe (Lixnaw) 9. Jeaic McKenna (Crotta O’Neill’s) 10. John Quilter (Crotta O’Neill’s) 11. Barry O’Mahony (Crotta O’Neill’s) 12. Cormac Slattery (Ballyheigue) 13. Padraig O’Mahony (St. Brendan’s) 14. Jack O’Sullivan (Ballyduff) 15. Gearoid Fennessy (Kilgarvan)
Subs used: James Lawlor (St. Brendan’s), Shane O’Mahony (St. Brendan’s), Eamon Shanahan (Crotta O’Neill’s), Dylan Dermody (Dr. Croke’s), Chris Whyte (Ballyduff).
Due to the draw with Cork East B, Kerry knew that a win against Mid Clare B while conceding less than 9 points would send them through to the final. Kerry started this game in whirlwind fashion and with Dylan Dermody, Padraig O’Mahony and Barry O’Mahony to the fore upfront were able to get in for 2 early goals. These settled Kerry straight away as they went on to add 5 further points before the break to Mid Clare’s 2 points. Half time score: Mid Clare B 0-02 Kerry 2-05. The second half was to follow a similar path to the first as once again Kerry got in for an early goal. With the Kerry defence standing strong, Mid Clare once again only managed 2 points while Kerry finished strong with another goal. Final score: Mid Clare B 0-04 Kerry 4-11. This result meant Kerry had now qualified to meet South Tipperary in the final on Bank Holiday Monday.
Team: 1. Adam O’Sullivan (Crotta O’Neill’s) 2. Evan Murphy (Causeway) 3. Gearoid O’Mahony (Causeway) 4. Eamon Shanahan (Crotta O’Neill’s) 5. Chris Creedon (Kilgarvan) 6. Gary Carey (Causeway) 7. Shane O’Mahony (St. Brendan’s) 8. Brian McAuliffe (Lixnaw) 9. Jeaic McKenna (Crotta O’Neill’s) 10. James Lawlor (St. Brendan’s) 11. Barry O’Mahony (Crotta O’Neill’s) 12. Richard Flaherty (Kilmoyley) 13. Padraig O’Mahony (St. Brendan’s) 14. Dylan Dermody (Dr. Croke’s) 15. Gearoid Fennessy (Kilgarvan)
Subs used: Adrian Nolan (St. Brendan’s), Chris Whyte (Ballyduff), John Quilter (Crotta O’Neill’s), Cormac Slattery (Ballyheigue), Diarmuid O’Connor (St. Brendan’s), Jack O’ Sullivan (Ballyduff), Gerard Leen (Causeway).
Final: Kerry 1-14 South Tipperary 1-07
Kerry travelled to the Mallow GAA complex once again on Monday, 4th May to compete in the final of the Munster Inter-Divisional ‘B’ competition where they faced stiff opposition in South Tipperary. Unfortunately for Kerry, Kilgarvan man Gearoid Fennessy was ruled out with an ankle injury picked up on the Saturday during the group stages. Kerry opted to play against the wind in the first half but started brightly and led by 4 points to no score after 15 minutes with the scores coming from Barry O’Mahony (f), James Lawlor and 2 from captain Padraig O’Mahony. South Tipperary then registered their first point with a good long range effort before Padraig O’Mahony once again responded with another well taken point after beating his marker. However, South Tipperary upped it a gear and dominated the last 10 minutes of the half outscoring Kerry by 1-04 to 2 points. Kerry’s scores came from Barry O’Mahony (1f) while South Tipperary’s goal was scored from the penalty spot after the Tipp full forward had been brought down in the square. Half time score was South Tipperary 1-05 Kerry 0-07.
Although, Kerry would have the aid of the wind in the second half they knew they still had it all to do. South Tipperary were awarded a free straight on the re-start which they converted to put 2 points between the sides. Once again Barry O’Mahony replied with a pointed free before South Tipperary once again put 2 points between the sides with just under 20 minutes remaining. From here on in it was all Kerry. First of all – outstanding centre back Gary Carey brought the difference back to the bare minimum with a long range strike before Barry O’Mahony put over 2 more points from play to give Kerry the lead. At this stage Kerry were on top all over the field and a good move saw Padraig O’Mahony finish to the net at the second attempt to give Kerry a 4 point lead, 1-11 to 1-07, with 8 minutes remaining. Dylan Dermody and Barry O’Mahony (2 ) finished off the scoring for Kerry and although they had to defend a late onslaught from South Tipperary - when the final whistle went, Kerry were deserving winners.
Team: 1. Adam O’Sullivan (Crotta O’Neill’s) 2. Evan Murphy (Causeway) 3. Gearoid O’Mahony (Causeway) 4. Diarmuid O’Connor (St. Brendan’s) 5. Chris Creedon (Kilgarvan) 6. Gary Carey (Causeway) 7. Shane O’Mahony (St. Brendan’s) 8. Brian McAuliffe (Lixnaw) 9. Jeaic McKenna (Crotta O’Neill’s) 10. James Lawlor (St. Brendan’s) 11. Barry O’Mahony (Crotta O’Neill’s) 12. Jack O’Sullivan (Ballyduff) 13. Padraig O’Mahony (St. Brendan’s) 14. Dylan Dermody (Dr. Croke’s) 15. Cormac Slattery (Ballyheigue).
Subs: Gerard Leen (Causeway), Adrian Nolan (St. Brendan’s), Gearoid Fennessy (Kilgarvan), John Quilter (Crotta O’Neill’s), Darragh Behan (Crotta O’Neill’s), Brian O’Connell (Crotta O’Neill’s), Chris Whyte (Ballyduff), Richard Flaherty (Kilmoyley), Eamon Shanahan (Crotta O’Neill’s), Lee Browne (Tralee Parnell’s), Johnny Downey (Tralee Parnell’s), Tim Kelliher (Tralee Parnell’s),
Other panel members on the weekend were: Conor O’ Keeffe (Lixnaw) injured and Philip Maunsell (Kilmoyley) injured.
Management: John Hennessy (Ballyduff), John Healy (Ballyheigue), Jerome O’Sullivan (Crotta O’Neill’s) and Eamon Fitzgerald (Causeway).

www.the42.ie/darragh-oconnell-kerry-2110132-May2015/Dublin’s newest senior hurling recruit is a Kerry native Darragh O’Connell was handed his debut in a challenge game last night by manager Ger Cunningham. DUBLIN ARE GEARING up for their Leinster championship opener against Galway on 31 May and continued their preparations with a challenge match win over Tipperary last night. An interesting inclusion in the Dublin side was midfielder Darragh O’Connell, who made his debut with Ger Cunningham’s team. O’Connell is a Kerry native who transferred from his home club of Abbeydorney to Dublin side Cuala this year. He’s impressed so far in the Dublin senior hurling championship for Cuala in their group stage wins over Ballinteer St John’s and Lucan Sarsfields. O’Connell was one of Kerry’s leading players when lining out for the Kingdom. He struck 1-9 from wing-forward in their 2011 Christy Ring Cup final win over Wicklow. His versatility was demonstrated by his appearance on half-back line for Kerry when they lost the 2013 Christy Ring Cup final to Down and he was midfield when they lost last year’s decider against Kildare. In 2012 O’Connell won a Ryan Cup medal on a Mary Immaculate College side that also included Galway’s Conor Cooney and the Waterford duo of Shane O’Sullivan and Brian O’Halloran.

www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/ger-cunningham-hails-darragh-oconnell-impact-331559.htmlDarragh o Connell seems to be making a huge impact in Dublin. His form for Cuala has really caught the eye and according to a Dub I work with was the best midfielder on display in the challenge match against Tipp. With McMorrow out injured will O'Connell get the nod against Galway? He really is a massive massive loss for Kerry this year and especially in Div 1B next year. Looks like he is comfortably at Any level. Would Shane Nolan, tweak etc all make the step up to Liam McCarthy level? I think they would.

I would say it is more to do with Dublins hatred for Kerry more so than the player himself. Having seen both of them hurl in the flesh, pound4pound Darragh is a more complete hurler than Ryan O Dwyer. Big difference is Tipp discarded ROD but Darragh is still wanted big time by Eamonn Kelly. Listen I hope it goes well for the lad. They won't be long singing his praises if he does the business for them in championship.

Kildare beat Meath today by 8 pts in Trim (Q/F). They must be handy - Meath gave us enough of it the last day and had us on the ropes for most of that game.
Down beat London in the other Q/F.
So that's Kildare, Down, Derry and ourselves in the semis.

Kildare have had 4 away games so far while both of ours have been at home so I suppose we can't complain, really.
