So if Kerry win the Christy Ring this year they will play in the Leinster round robin preliminary group and could qualify for the Leinster championship proper in 2016? Munster championship aparently. Not totally sure as to how that will work for the Leinster championship Thanks hurlingman, I don't see too many "outsiders" on the hurling panel?

Got the win today without really playing well, winning 2-17 to 2-10
Down started brighter but Kerry sparked into life after Down got the goal,I think it was 1-3 to 0-1 after Down got the goal Kerry woke up and ended up taking the lead and after that they did enough to keep Down at arms length
Patrick Kelly at midfield was outstanding, scored four points from play, fine player he is,he got great support for John Griffin who always does a great job in fairness to him,
Paud Costelloe at full back had a great second half, was very solid and had the job of marking Gareth Johnson,I think Johnson only beat him to the ball once and he ended up been hauled off.
Daniel Collins had a good game as well,he sweeped up a lot of ball in the half back line
The forwards didn't really fire today,Down really made them work hard for any score they got,
Plenty to work on going into the next few weeks, which is a good thing.

Enjoyable enough game today. Thought Michael O'Leary at 10 was MOTM. Collins had a fine game too. Stephen Murphy made a terrific save early in the second half when a goal would have brought Down right back into it. Kerry started and finished the game sleepily but did enough overall without exactly inspiring. Gareth Johnson was dangerous whenever he got on the ball but quietened second half. Danny Toner must be one of the em..largest hurlers around and the no 25 who came on was even larger. Hard to imagine with some fellas that they could be training seriously. Neither made any impact. Pity there wasn't more of a crowd; poor attendance really. Luckily the weather was grand.

The draw in Ruislip really screws up the schedule. Next round is fixed for Saturday coming and it's every week after that bar the 30th. Final is set for June 6th. Will London be asked to come over for a midweek replay ?
Don't know why there's such a rush play it off anyway.

Good win today. Was always going to be a tricky one. As for the outside players, yet another new one today. How long has he been involved with the panel? David Butler is the same. At the start of the year he wasn't able to commit but mow all of a sudden he is.
Again with the comments about the crowd very disappointing once again

Kerrydude / Hurlingman..
What did ye make of Shane Nolan's 1st half free that was flagged wide by the umpire? Nolan was adamant that it was good and the ref awarded the point following his protest. Have to say it looked wide to me (sideline terrace). Didn't hear anyone else complaining either.

I thought it was wide The ref was very hit and miss as well, allowed no advantage in the first half when Shane Nolan was gone off through on goal, yet he gave Down the advantage later on in the half. The Down centre back who was booked in the first half should have walked in the second half for a wild pull across one of our lads.

I was on the terrace as well, just below and left of the press box, and I really thought that shot was just inside the left hand post. Awful crowd, hugely disappointing. Mind you, I didn't thunk much of the game at all, a lot of Kerry players almost seemed to be sleepwalking to be truthful. They are much, much better hurlers than that. The game seemed to lack any bit of fire or passion, it felt more like a club league game where both sides are safe from relegation. Pa Kelly was definitely my man of the match. Paud Costelloe did very well - Down's main tactic seemed to be raining ball down on top of him and he dealt confidently with everything. Stephen Murphy in goal, just out of minor, did very well and that was a top class save - the Down keeper made an equally good one, I think it was from Colm Harty. Daniel Collins and Darren Dineen did well. I was very disappointed with our full forward line, although our first goal was a very good move and execution. Padraig Boyle won the vital ball for that one, he came out for most of the second half and I thought he hit the point of the day. 10, although he fouled a lot, and 11 stood out for Down, two class hurlers. A nice gesture, it was announced that the Kerry hurlers would be available afterwards for autographs or photographs. I couldn't stay after the game myself, but I hope that people, especially with young kids, availed of the opportunity.

The one thing about these outside players,Eamon Kelly said last week that there was players in the county that were asked to play this year but none of would commit to playing for the hurlers so they had to bring in lads from the outside to make up the panel, maybe he is just covering himself I dont know, but anytime he has talked to the media he comes across as an honest and straight forward man
Now they could have brought in a lot of the younger lads but maybe that is rushing lads too much too soon,Stephen Murphy is now in position to be the keeper for Kerry for a long time to come, made a great save yesterday, maybe he was the only one the minors that was ready to step up to Senior, either way he is doing well.
Next year when they are getting ready for 1B and I think cant use these outside players the players that were asked to play this year and turned it down should not be asked to play for Kerry and these young lads that will be a year older then bring them on to the panel.

I'd say it wouldn't quite push 500, but wouldn't be much short of it. I'd have hoped for a bit more after all that this team has already given us this year for a home game on a Saturday afternoon. That's not criticising anyone, by the way, I make very few of the hurling games myself

Shane Nolan point was a hard one to call unless you were right behind the goals. It did look wide to me. As for the crowed for a bank holiday weekedn you'd expect a lot more. Then again how much was it promoted?

Will Kerry definitely enter the preliminary round of the Leinster championship if they win the Christy Ring? Was looking at the fixtures and there is no place for the Christy Ring winners in it, just matches between, Carlow, westmeath, Laois and Antrim.

Even if Kerry lose their next game they are still in it. Down v Kerry is a likely final if they are kept apart

There are 9 strong hurling counties but Div 1 only caters for 6 of them so there are always three in division 2a that are too strong for Laois, Westmeath, Offaly, Kerry, Carlow etc. At the moment you have Waterford, Limerick and Wexford in division 2... all three capable of making the All Ireland final in 2015. So why don't they have a division 1 of the top 9 counties and have a division two of Antrim, Laois, Kerry, Westmeath, Carlow etc and let them find their own level. Waterford's win today backs up my point that having only 6 of the 9 strong counties in Division One makes a bit of a mockery of Division 1B

Dates for games have been moved to take in the replay of London and Kildare www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=236731Whoever reaches the final will have only seven days to get ready for it,I cant figure out what is the panic with trying to run the Christy Ring as fast as possible every year.

It's almost as if the hurling authorities see it like a visiting down-and-out relative that they want to feed and get out the door before the neighbours notice.
God help us if there's another draw or two.

The GAA can run off competitions within 5/6 weeks when it suits. No reason why the senior hurling championship consisting of 9 counties couldn't be done an dusted between mid June and the end of July. Let the football one be run off in August and September. Plenty of time for club games then....

I'd never claim to be any sort of authority on hurling but I'm shocked at this selection.
James Logue, the man who wouldn't play in the promotion match, is in for Stephen Murphy who hardly put a foot wrong last week (and made at least one great save at a crucial time). Murphy is on the bench so presumably not injured either. What a slap in the face that must be. Really p*sses me off anyway, just on principle alone.
Also, Michael O'Leary dropped ? The stand out player last w/e for me. Can't believe that.

I'd love to hear the reason to justify putting James Logue back in goals for this game. Also John O’Neill whos after coming out of nowhere ahead of Michael O'Leary whos been one of our best players all year?
