Good to see the hurlers recover from some shakey results. Doesn't make a huge difference whether they win the final or not (even though a cup is always welcome!) as the winner will struggle against Antrim (who you'd expect to lose to Laois). This ridiculous promotion/relegation system is a joke. At least the winners of the Christy Ring will get a shot at Leinster championship proper, so hopefully the lads will give that a good shot. I've seen Antrim play and we have have a better chance against them than we did against Offaly. Still a big gap though, but not impossible. Would it help Kerry though to be in 1B and get hammered by every team in the league next year? Why do you think that is true? Why would there be such a chasm between 1B and 2A?

Disappointing result again today. At this stage the aim will be to stay up, as i cant see them making the final. On the up side the minors had a big win the the Leinster league over Wicklow 4-16 to 0-07. Once again not even a result of the game on any Kerry GAA site, had to looked on the Leinster GAA page for it Now so Hurlingman as Donaghy once said "what you think of that" haha fair play to the Kerry Hurlers Delighted for them Made the final I stand corrected!!

and its quite hard for top teams to get relegated. Clare have lost four league games and haven't managed to get relegated yet and they still might avoid it.

It surely didn't help last year playing Uíbh Fháilí the weekend after 2A final, whereas they had a free weekend. I think if we win it'll be the same story this year.
It's hard to argue the point that Ciarraí (or An Iarmhí) "wouldn't be ready" for 1B when potentially we replace a county that hasn't won a league game in 2 years.

Last year Offaly beat Antrim in the last round of the league stages but then they played in the relegation play off a week later and Antrim won which put Offaly into a game against the 2A Champions, this makes little sense, the same thing could happen this year,Antrim could beat Laois even though Laois finished the league stages with more points then Antrim.

Antrim are left get away with murder by the GAA. Play in both Leinster & Ulster championships, and get a bye into the Ulster final as well as home advantage every year. Straight out refused to be relegated from the Liam McCarty at least once. Now having not won a league game in 2 years they still have a chance of staying up

There are 9 strong hurling counties but Div 1 only caters for 6 of them so there are always three in division 2a that are too strong for Laois, Westmeath, Offaly, Kerry, Carlow etc. At the moment you have Waterford, Limerick and Wexford in division 2... all three capable of making the All Ireland final in 2015.
So why don't they have a division 1 of the top 9 counties and have a division two of Antrim, Laois, Kerry, Westmeath, Carlow etc and let them find their own level.

Kerry Hurlers in AHL Division 2 Final Best of luck to the Kerry senior hurlers in the Final of Division 2A of the Allianz Hurling League against Westmeath on this Saturday, 4th April at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick where there will be a 3.00p.m. throw in. Kerry will be seeking their second win in a row in this competition and John Griffin (Lixnaw) is the Kerry captain.
Kerry have played 5 games en route to Saturday’s final, including a Round 3 game where their opponents on Sunday came out on top by five goals. Kerry recovered well to defeat Carlow away and with Westmeath defeating Carlow in their final game, Kerry’s impressive victory over London earned them a final place and a chance at redemption.

Congratulations to our hurlers on winning their division for the second year in a row!! We seem to be stuck in division one and a half, too good for division 2 and the Christy Ring (having lost the last two but by a puck of a ball)but not good enough for division one. What will it take for Kerry to become that little bit better? Does it need to come from the clubs, the players? All answers welcome! Whatever happens this was a great turnaround from the league match and will provide a great fillip for the Antrim match next week.

Couldn't hurt if we got some exposure to the better sides but with the current league format the authorities seem determined to keep us out. No riff-raff wanted in this club. If you tried to tell sportspeople from another country that a team could go 2 seasons without a single league point and still not be relegated, no one would believe you.

Southward I know! However we need to be better and stronger and that can only start by taking our best minors down to Kilkenny for 4 weekends a year, if not more, to learn from playing hard games as our Munster neighbours don't seem to be in a hurry to help us. The Kerry Colleges team was shot down with no valid reason given. This venture would have helped the whole county while instead we now have the teams divided around the grades of Munster Colleges' competition. Improved hurling in Kerry will only strenghthen GAA in the county overall. The prospect of facing strong Kerry teams in big and small ball codes would be a source of increased nightmares for the whole country then; especially in Munster!

If we'd known that we'd have won it sooner. Then again, we've got bags and bags of money up here, as yis are only too aware. The Langer in charge of our lads seems to be as good a match as I thought it might be, so far...............our hurlers will no longer lack for self-belief at any rate!

To be fair all combined college teams were done away with it after the Dungarvan Colleges teams, who were actually just one school, won both the A and B championships in the same year. I for one thought the Kerry Colleges team was a disaster, they could only pick from 3 schools so a lot of players, mostly non Causeway, were missing out. I think having the 4 schools playing the way it is now is a better idea. More players are getting games and thats whats needed, more over the Tralee schools. Getting the Sem playing should be the next thing

The thrust of my post was what is best for Kerry Hurling in the future. An avenue of excellence was closed with the amalgamation of schools' competitions but the problem of development for the underage grades remains. I have posted about this before and to me a serious avenue of exploration is sending our best to Kilkenny on a frequent basis to improve their hurling wisdom for that is all we lack; the skills are there in Kerry. Dungarvan were St.Augustines and Dungarvan CBS and the abolition of amlgamations at the top level of colleges competition is nonsense. It would be better to have the best colleges and the best amalgamations in an elite competition and then individual schools against subsidiary teams from the best schools in various divisions.

Pardon me for coming from a position of complete ignorance, but I've always been fascinated by the prospect of our taking the next step and being able to mix it with the bigger guns. Even getting to a position where, say, we were the constant underdogs in Munster, 1 in 5 years maybe suffering a bad beating, but another 1 in 5 getting a victory and the odd final, wouldn't it be superb?
My idea has always been that it is the small pool of clubs that is our major handicap. I think Port Lairge have the next smallest in the province, and they have (I might be wrong) somewhere about 60.
Would we need to look at some sort of county board led programme that sets a time frame- long term even 15-20 years- for doubling the number of dual/hurling clubs? I realise this might be unfeasible as regards manpower and money. The likes of Na Crocaigh and Dubháth seem to have made a start. There is a new club in Trá Li as well. Would there be a population base for a club in Corca Dhuibhne and down south (besides An Neidin and Cill Gharbhan)? Honestly I think even if they're all playing Junior B, that the big increase in the pool of hurlers is bound to make a difference.
Apologies if this has all been discussed before- I'm coming from an inexperienced and uninformed position! Also I haven't lived at home this millennium so finger is definitely not on the pulse.

I disagree. Combined colleges teams are a waste of time. Look at the Kerry colleges team, very little training ever done, 95% of of the team coming from one school, plus the fact they could only pick from 3 schools meaning others were missing out on playing. The only way players at that level are going to get better is by actually playing games, whatever the level might be. An example of it would be lads from Ardfert. Most of them would be going to school in Tralee, how else are they going to get any game time at schools level? Not with a Kerry colleges team. Mounthawk made it to the Munster D final this year, yes it D level but they still got there and it gave players the chance to play against schools from Clare, Tipp etc. They wouldnt have got that much game time with a Kerry colleges team. The next step is to bring the Sem playing at colleges level, also even Kenmare and Dingle. In fact a Kerry college championship could be set up to get these teams going before playing in Munster
