Aonghus Clarke will captain Westmeath for the first time in tomorrow’s vital Allianz Hurling League Division 2A meeting with Kerry in Tralee.
The newly-appointed skipper will make his first start of the year in a game the Lake County must win if they are to keep their promotion hopes alive. Adam Price and Derek McNicholas also return after missing the surprise defeat to Derry last time out.
The players to lose out are Alan McGrath, Joey Boyle and Niall Dowdall, while there is no place for Niall O’Brien, who missed the last-gasp Owenbeg loss through illness.
Westmeath (SH v Kerry): Peter Collins; Shane Power, Aaron Craig, Adam Price; Gary Greville, Tommy Doyle, Liam Varley; Eoin Price, Joe Clarke; Aonghus Clarke, Brendan Murtagh, Robbie Greville; Alan Devine, Derek McNicholas, Darragh Clinton.

What a difference a year makes,Westmeath were battling relegation this time last year while Kerry were going very well,it was the other way around today,Westmeath were away sharper then our lads, maybe Kerry made too many changes to the team but I suppose fellas need some game time.
John Griffin was a big loss in the middle of the field,Colm Harty did well when he came on,Michael O Leary had a good game scored some great points and Mikey Boyle was a threat to Westmeath for the whole game,he is some man to win ball just a pity Kerry didnt give him enough ball.
Final score Kerry 0-12 Westmeath 3-18

Disappointing result again today. At this stage the aim will be to stay up, as i cant see them making the final.
On the up side the minors had a big win the the Leinster league over Wicklow 4-16 to 0-07. Once again not even a result of the game on any Kerry GAA site, had to looked on the Leinster GAA page for it

Amazing what the addition of a few from the parish of Ardfert does!
Kerry are on 5, a point behind Carlow and Westmeath who must play each other next.
Round 5 - Sunday March 22nd, 2015
Allianz Hurling League Roinn 2A 2015 Round 5
Kerry vs. London Westmeath vs. Carlow Derry vs. Wicklow
I think Derry are missing the Slaughtneil hurlers due to the club final.

By Kevin Egan Divisional roundup
Kerry salvaged their chances of promotion from Division 2A of the Allianz hurling league when they delivered a dramatic 1-24 to 3-17 win over Carlow at Dr Cullen Park, setting up a dramatic final round of games on Sunday.
The Kingdom led by seven points with 13 minutes remaining yesterday afternoon but a late goal from John Michael Nolan pulled the home side back into contention.
Scores from Marty Kavanagh and David English tied up the game by the 70 minute mark, but there was to be one final twist however as Pádraig Boyle was given and gratefully accepted his chance to win the tie with a long range free.
Westmeath face Carlow in what will be essentially a knockout tie Sunday after Niall O’Brien’s 1-11 haul helped them to a 1-22 to 2-10 win over Wicklow at Cusack Park in Mullingar.

Hopefully Westmeath and Carlow wont organise a "draw" Nearly! A point in it. Apparently it was a last gasp winner for Westmeath. And Carlow were 4 up inside the last 10 minutes, must be sick. I see there's the same crack with the play-off against the 1B losers again. Disgraceful.

Would the winners of Kerry v westmeath have a chance of beating Antrim???
|
|
|
Post by townend on Mar 23, 2015 11:44:45 GMT
laois have to beat them first but they should its in portlaoise, i still think Antrim will stay up alot like last year offaly few years in division 1B stood to them as it will to Antrim or laois in the play off its not fair as kerry should have replace Antrim last year, i know offaly beat kerry but offaly had 3 points in last years league drew with limerick and beat Antrim, and like last year Antrim yet again never picked up any points in the league this year and by right should go down and be replace by kerry or westmeath.

Great result again yesterday, hopefully the players will be fired up for the final and hopefully give Westmeath a right rattle this time after that woeful performance in Tralee a few weeks ago.
As for Antrim, two seasons with no points should be automatic relegation but they get well looked after by the GAA,they play in two provincial championships as well, yet it has taken until this year to get the Christy Ring winners a reward for winning the competition

Good to see the hurlers recover from some shakey results. Doesn't make a huge difference whether they win the final or not (even though a cup is always welcome!) as the winner will struggle against Antrim (who you'd expect to lose to Laois). This ridiculous promotion/relegation system is a joke. At least the winners of the Christy Ring will get a shot at Leinster championship proper, so hopefully the lads will give that a good shot.

I've seen Antrim play and we have have a better chance against them than we did against Offaly. Still a big gap though, but not impossible. Would it help Kerry though to be in 1B and get hammered by every team in the league next year?
