Disgraceful the way we can't compete in our own province for 2016... Would love to see a championship hurling game in Killarney against one of our neigbouring counties

Good article there above. Clearly there is huge camaraderie and togetherness in this Kerry hurling team and Eamonn Kelly is hugely popular. I thought Bryan Murphy at corner back and his fellow Causeway clubmate Keith Carmody at wing back were outstanding. John Egan wore 15 but operated around the middle and played a lot of ball. Derry played a sweeper and curtailed Kerry to one goal. Shane Nolan was on song. Its all about finding your man now and posting long range points which it made easier by a ball that's much lighter than 20 years ago. The game of hurling has evolved into almost non-contact. Kerrys captain gave a fine speech and gave credit to Kerry county board for all the support. Good to hear that as they don't always get such credit for their efforts with hurling. Its good that Kerry have another challenge in 2016 in the Leinster round robin. If Kelly stays at the helm they will hold their own. Some of these players are very young. Michael Oleary is 19. Kerrys keeper is in the middle of his leaving cert. Some distraction from maths paper two on monday. Sean Kelly was in the Croke Park hotel yesterday. He can be proud of his efforts to give club players and playesr from weaker counties their day in the sun. The joy of the Kerry, Fermanagh and Roscommon hurlers yesterday would gladden your heart. Another Kerryman played in Croke Park yesterday but not for Kerry. Ronan Kenny from Ballyheigue who now lives in Sligo and was CHB for them. [/b] Thats Jamie Kenny, possibly his brother? he's been playing with them for a few years now. I think he won an All Star for them

As it happens I have yet to see proper confirmation of our participation in leinster next year... Antrim were 'relegated' to Christy Ring but GAA might 'need' to reinstore them for the sake of Antrim hurling... GAA very quiet on the issue.... Kerry potentially being involved makes the 'Leinster' Championship with Connaught and Ulster teams already involved, a bit of a sham and just highlights that the Munster championship is preventing a coherent AI hurling championship... pity really... sorry bout all the 'inverted commas'

Was there much mention on the Sunday game? John tweek Griffin got a mention by Anthony D as well as very succinct description of where hurling is played in NKY. Be interesting to track the progress with #triptothailand

Great win, now to turn those patronising pats on the head into other teams tearing their hair out.
So many questions for next year, with Stack Park out of action where will they play? How much of the management team will stay on? Will there be any outside players now they're in the championship? Will it be Thailand or Miami?

Good interview with John Griffin, John ‘Tweak’ Griffin: “People Are Taking Notice Of Kerry Hurling” Posted by Gavin O'Connor Gavin O’Connor speaks to Kerry hurling captain, John ‘Tweak’ Griffin, about Saturday’s victory in the Christy Ring Cup and where Kerry hurling goes from here… John Griffin 4 John ‘Tweak’ Griffin in action. File Photo IT was a special weekend for Kerry captain, John ‘Tweak’ Griffin, who along with walking up the steps of the Hogan Stand to collect the Christy Ring Cup, brought the chalice back home to Lixnaw for the victory celebrations on Sunday night. “It was fantastic to be around family, friends and teammates, it’s something we’ll remember for the rest of our lives,” he told TraleeToday.ie on Monday. “Only a select few in their lifetime get to go up the steps of the Hogan Stand and collect the cup. We got a great crowd as well last night. It wasn’t just Lixnaw people either, they came from all around North Kerry and beyond,” he said. It was a case of third time lucky for Kerry, who had tasted agonising defeat in the two previous Christy Ring deciders. “We’ve lost a few of these finals so it’s nice to come home with a victory. They say you have to lose one to win one, so we really appreciate it after the couple of defeats,” he said. “People are taking a bit more notice now of Kerry hurling. We’ve had a fantastic year, with the promotion to 1B as well. We’ve never had as much exposure at home and nationally as well,” he said. It really has been a landmark year. Along with entry into the Leinster championship preliminary round next year, they have earned the right to face the likes of Clare, Limerick and Wexford, in Division 1B of the Allianz National Hurling League. Even so, the Lixnaw man has his feet firmly planted on the crowd and he knows the huge task that is ahead of them. “It will be nice to have a few of those teams down here next year. They should draw a good crowd, it will be great for supporters to see the likes of Tony Kelly (Clare) down playing here,” he said. “Laois, Carlow, Westmeath have been consistently performing, so that’s the level we’ve got to get to. It will take a lot of work to do that, but the lads are prepared to do that work. Seeing Laois beat Offaly over the weekend – that’s the level we want to get to.” “This is the best prepared Kerry hurling team I’ve been involved with, but we can’t be under any illusions either. Division 1B is a massive step up, physically, mentally and every other way you can think of.” “After such a great year, I know that fellas will go and challenge themselves again. In the past, Kerry hurling teams were able to get the odd win here and there, or maybe the odd good year, but they mightn’t be as good the year after. So if we can drive on next year it will be great for the kids in the county to show them that we’re a serious team and we’re serious about our hurling,” said John. Kerry will have to make do next year without playing at their regular home of Austin Stack Park which will be under development for the entire league campaign. “It’s not really a issue for us. They had to do a bit of work on it and that’s it. Obviously it would be nice to have a few of the better sides there, but if we had games in one of the pitches in North Kerry it would gather a massive crowd and have just as good an atmosphere,” he said. While giving the speech, ‘Tweak’ broached the possible idea of a team holiday in Thailand or Miami at the end of the year. “I probably mentioned it a couple of times! The last time we won the Christy Ring we went to Thailand for 12 days. If we can get something at the end of the year it will be just rewards for the players. It would be nice to get a bit of sun,” he said. The beaches of Koh Samui or Phuket won’t know what hit them. traleetoday.ie/john-tweak-griffin-people-are-taking-notice-of-kerry-hurling/

I think he has been involved at some stage, same for Ciaran Carey I think. Great to see Brendan Cummins out on the pitch wearing a Kerry top, of course them lads will be inspired when they see that sort of interest from big names. Big step up next year. Does anybody know if the outside lads are able to play?

Did I hear O'dorney is being looked at for games. Fine pitch, parking could be tricky...no different to most pitches in NKY I suppose.... '....The beaches of Koh Samui or Phuket won’t know what hit them...' Well ain't that the truth

Daly was training Kilmoyley I think he was there for three years, lost one county final in 07 and won two in 08 and 09,also he is a big greyhound coursing man so he would have been coming down to North Kerry for meetings.

Fine set up now in O Dorney, built a fine stand there a few years back, remember been at a Waterford Crystal Cup game against LIT there,Kerry also played Kildare there in a league game The dressing rooms though would want to be upgraded, even for the county championship games this year having double headers could be tricky with only one set of dressing rooms

It would seem flawed that such a high percentage of inter county hurlers outside of the smaller group of elite inter county hurlers have no inter county hurling to look forward to on the hard summer sod?
Surely summer hurling could contribute to the development of hurling in the weaker counties? Or are we only paying lip service to hurling around the country?

Would expect a couple of more to join if we are!

How did Anthony Daly know so much about the local scene, was he involved with Lixnaw??? Anthony Daly devoted 4 or 5 pages of his book to his time with Kilmoyley. He clearly loved it. He loved heading down to Killimer, getting the ferry over and the zeal of the locals for hurling in a tiny pocket.

I seen that the Munster Intermediate semi final is on this weekend. I for one cant understand why is doesn't start a little later so that Kerry could play in it. It would be perfect for Kerry and give them some extra games.
It would also be perfect for the likes of Carlow to play in Leinster. Moreover because there are only 2 teams in it as far as i know!
