Yes Cuthbert must obviously be thinking of making him part of the panel for 2015. If so then it is a damning indictment of the lack of talent at present in Cork club football. I think part of the issue is that since Cuthbert has become manager it looks like at least 3 serious candidates (and possibly more) all far better options than Cussen for midfield, have opted out of involvement with Cork. Even though the match against Mary I was a non-event, Cuthbert pretty much wasted it as an opportunity to developing realistic midfield options given that he played Cadogan in midfield for the 2nd half. Cuthbert is obviously worried about midfield now that Walsh is gone to the hurlers. However neither Cadogan or Cussen are viable alternatives in my opinion.

Darragh O Se will wear the bainisteoir’s bib when Kerry make their seasonal bow against IT Tralee in the McGrath Cup next Sunday. The U21 manager and former midfield general will fill in for Eamonn Fitzmaurice who, along with most of the senior players and management, is currently enjoying the team holiday in South Africa. The holiday is a reward for winning the All-Ireland title last September. A number of the U21 team which drew with Roscommon in the Hastings Cup on Saturday could feature against the Tralee students. i have this feeling that Darragh will be driving around Kerry on saturday night knocking on doors of lads, trying to get them out for sunday morning! apparently no squad has been finalised yet anyway. would expect alot of the u21s involved now, though perhaps isnt the wisest to be playing 2 games in 24 hours at this time of the year. eitherway, it will be exciting to see the team, im actually really looking forward to these 2 games

I highly doubt it - I would guess that Darragh has the guts of 30 lads in with the U21's at the moment he will use 20 of them Saturday v Cavan & use the other lads on Sunday I would also imagine Fitzmaurice has had an eye on maybe 5/6 guys he was planning of having a look at in the McGrath the likes of Conor Cox,Tommy Walsh,James Walsh,Gavan O Grady - There could be another 1 or 2 that made an impression in the county championship like Pa McCarthy,Wayne Guthrie,Danny Wren Not sure if Brian McGuire is back full time in Ireland but if he was the McGrath would be a great way for him to force his way back into the panel Darragh will have a small panel of lads for Sunday but will be enough to get over Tralee IT. Next Sunday will give us a real indication with who Fitzy is looking to step up for the NFL

I hear there has been a bit of flooding around Tralee this evening. The pitch might have a bit of cut in it. Last years game out in Mitchells pitch was in horrendous weather with traffic cones blowing around the place.

Think they (The Score) would want to check their facts- Tommy was in Strand Rd last night with his club mates in preparation for 2015! Fitzy is not interested in having any of the senior panel involved in the McGrath Cup hence Tommy's omission from tomorrow.

I thought Cillian Fitzgerald played for UL in this competition last week. Was that a different C Fitzgerald so?! Yep. Cillian Fitzgerald of UL is the Crokes player, brother of Fionn. Cillian Fitzgerald on tomorrow's panel is the Churchill forward, who is related to Kieran Donaghy. Either his nephew or first cousin, pretty sure he's Donaghy's nephew. Churchill Fitz is underage for U21 this year, Crokes one is a year his senior and is now overage.

The idea of Caoimhgin O Beaglaioch full Back - for such a good player he's not even involved with the U21's !

How can you comment on a game you weren't at yes conor Keane played well as did jack savage and several other it playersyou are being very harsh on the kerry team that was only put together without even a training session and some of them playing some part with the under 21s in portloise yesterday

ITT 4-12 Kerry 0-16 HT 1-6 0-8
This was a timid, tame affair in contrast to the bruiser in Ballylongford yesterday. Apart from Tom O'Sullivan for Paul Kennelly, Kerry started as per selected. Paul Kennelly did come on early in the game and was one of the better Kerry performers, scoring two points. ITT played with the strong breeze in the first half, which was fairly competitive. The goal was scored by Conor Keane, by a mile the best forward on view. He received from the nippy Gavin O'Shea and finished with his customary precision. Points were exchanged and going in just a point down with the breeze to come one felt that Kerry should win pulling up.
Kerry did start brightly in the second half and got a few impressive points to manufacture a lead of three or four points. But ITT were playing cleverly against the breeze, winning possession, holding for a runner and then letting it go where a shambles of a Kerry defence, particularly the full back line, was causing grey hairs for their supporters. It was no surprise that another goal came, courtesy of a cast iron penalty. It was converted by Conor Keane, a torment for Kerry from start to finish. Another goal was finished home by sub Padraig O'Shea from Currow and the fourth goal was well scored by Peter Nash from Limerick. A hard working forward, he deserved it. In the meantime, in spite of the breeze, Kerry played a short game rather than letting that breeze do the work for them. When it did arrive in, they tended to hold on too long and, accordingly, could make little headway against a well organised defence. An indication of a certain doziness was that on about three occasions the ball hit the woodwork but not once was a forward sharp enough to collect. Back at the ranch, the backs, with the exception of Paul McMahon from St. Pats, were AWOL too often.
Colin McGillicuddy impressed at midfield. James Crean from Aunascaul went off early, presumably injured because he was playing well in the forwards. Gary Sayers was the best of the forwards , scoring two points. Gavan O'Grady started well but found Gavin Crowley too formidable the more the game advanced. Gavan scored three from frees. Michael Burns was one of the many to come on and looked lively.
I was very impressed by Denis McElligott from Austin Stacks at wing back for ITT. As stated, Gavan Crowley was a rock at full back. Jack Savage was good also. He won a lot of possession and used it cleverly from the half forward line. He converted two frees and got two from play. He went off in the second half which I imagine was due to an injury. Jack has got strong and should be a good prospect. Gavin O'Shea from Dr. Crokes was clever and neat. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
It was Conor Keane from Legion who trumped them all. Like Jack Savage, Conor has got much stronger. This new strength allied to his sheer class makes him an intimidating opponent. Well, he intimidated the Kerry backs today anyway. He started on the forty but switched inside early with Jack Savage. Inside ,of course, is where predators should reside. He scored 2-4(one penalty and two from frees). Yes, I would say we will he hearing about this boy again.
It is not the end of the world to lose this game but its significance is that we now miss out on a couple of more games before the NFL. Those games would have given us a chance to blend some of the new with some of the old. ITT next play UCC/Limerick. If they get hammered there, today's performance from Kerry will look all the more feeble.
PS. If he was available and able, why did Tommy Walsh not play today? Surely he needs all the games he can get before more serious action commences.

An unforgettable performance from this Kerry select
Tom O Sullivan played well as a linkman in the first half,He was put into the corner back spot for the 2nd but is a nice prospect for the future.
Gavan O Grady won a massive amount of ball in the FF line and we should see him in the Kerry jersey soon again.
Gary Sayers worked hard but all in all it was a dis-organised set up that looked like they just got the jerseys that morning.
Tralee IT were brilliantly organised by Noel Kennelly with Dennis McElligott super in defense and Jack Savage & Conor Keane tormenting the Kerry back line for the whole 70mins.
We will see alot of young Keane this year IMO

He didn't say anything about the Kerry players. He posed the question who do others think well get a 2nd chance, and that he favoured Keane and O Grady. How is that harsh on the others?
