Plus the most important thing to consider is that, Tommy has actually played full back whilst in Oz. He spent a large portion of his playing time in defense. Yeah it's not the same as GAA, but he has experience of marking big full forwards, playing behind the ball and competing for those long passes into the full forward line. If Star, Gooch and James are fit...Tommy can be deployed onto guys like A O Se, Mike Murphy etc. with confidence. He played a few halves of games at fullback...in an entirely different game at a very low level. Did you watch even the highlights of any of those games for Swans Reserves? The standard of kicking and ball handling was generally shocking. Anybody trying to use that to shoehorn him into the All Ireland winning backline from this year needs their head examined. We have, in Tommy, a ready made replacement for Donaghy, who has already excelled at the top level in the full forward line,,and people want to play him in the backs? Fitzy will have more sense I would hope. Midfield or half forward line could be experimented with, but I'd be fairly sure he'll end up on the edge of the square at some point.

Actually I watched some full games! Was able to stream them live, plus some were posted on Youtube, they may even still be there. Wait are you shoehorning your own opinions on others based purely on you watching a few highlights and the presumption that others have watched less? wow Not half hypocritical! Educate yourself on it, he played well in defense when he played there, and trained well there too, so much so that he was being earmarked to play there for the senior side if ever he made the break through. Seriously do your own research before attacking others. He was playing with one of the 2 best squads in AFL, many of his teammates in the reserves played senior footy also and will do so regularly this coming year with other sides; the same goes for opposition players. Nobody said Tommy HAS TO PLAY IN DEFENSE, you were the one jumping the gun on that one. All that was said was that it was a viable option. And by the way, why do we need a ready made replacement for Donaghy? What is wrong with the way we dismantled Cork? Would you like us to go back to being a 1 trick pony? Is it not enough to have Geaney, James and Gooch in the forward line, with SOB floating around as he did so well before getting injured? It does amuse me how so many here are so sensitive to a discussion about where a ~26 year old former professional footballer may play next year for Kerry...yet ye sit quietly on yer hands as the abilities of 15 and 16 year olds are dissected here regularly!!

Nail on head, Tommy hasn't played competitively since 2009, let alone played Gaelic football. Throw in a very serious injury and Tommy will need a lot of time to get back to the pitch of championship football. The jury is out as to whether he will actually come back a better player or not.

I don't need to "educate" myself on AFL as I've seen many games in the flesh, including reserve level games..and using those games as "evidence" for an argument about top level Gaelic football is nonsense, simple as.."He trained well"..lol, are we now using Sydney Swans reserves training sessions as part of our reasoning also? "What is wrong with the way we dismantled Cork"...A club under 14 team would have defended better and less naively than Cork did that day..That would be the opening line of my rebuttal to that one, which will be obvious to most people I'm sure. As for replacing Donaghy, in case you haven't noticed, when you have a target man like Donaghy it can have untold benefits. Were Kerry a "one trick pony" at the end of this year? Do you think a full-forward line of Jameso, Tommy, Paul Geaney would operate one-dimensionally? I don't know if that will happen of course, Tommy needs a lot of practice to get back into Football, so all this speculation is really jumping the gun.
