Just to bring into sharp focus how many great players Kerry have lost to retirement since 2004...could someone throw up a team. I'll start with Diarmaid Murphy..........

to be All IRELAND CHAMPIONS after that level of retirements is astounding really. (Didn't Maurice retire circa 2002)

All teams and all great players have retirements. Also DOS was there this year. For me, Marc, Aidan O'Mahony, Maher, Donncha Walsh, Dec Sull, Donaghy and James O'D could all strengthen that team. Crowley, Fionn Fitz, Moran, Sheehan not far behind and others like Paul Geaney only to get better. Yes a strange statement.

Ah sure I make a lot of strange statements!
A county goes into decline when great players are replaced by merely good players. Thankfully that hasn't happened in Kerry. It will be very interesting to watch KK when JJ and all the other KK players over 30 retire. Cork hurlers didn't replace the "Ben and Jerry" era yet. Tyrone have replaced great players by good players. Dublin have such a raft of young players that they should get great players coming through all the time.
But Kerry produce Paul G, Fionn, PTG, Paul Murphy, Bryan Kelly, Jonathan Lyne. JOD..... all born in 1989 or 1990 as far as I know. 1990 was a good year in the maternity wards in Kerry!

It's amazing going, to have been consistently at the business end of the Championship since 1996. And not much remarked upon, the likes of Breheny would put it down to the provincial system of course.

This years victory was extraordinary considering the change over of players in the last few seasons. Most people within the county expected Mayo to beat Kerry in the semi final in Croke Park.

I did as well. But then again most people are like me. Most people are idiots. Disclaimer: I thought we would beat Mayo in HQ.

Going into the drawn Mayo game it was 50/50 at best from a Kerry point of view, probably no different to the odds going into the replayed game in Limerick. The way the games panned out supports this view point.
