Hard to argue with any of those. If you had to play an actual match, you might throw Donnchadh in at 12 and use Maurice as an impact sub. Keep Mike Frank up your sleeve too if you need a goal near the end.

Hard to argue with the 15 personnel I would juggle the backline a bit though to have Moynihan in the Half Back line Aidan, Mike Mac, Tom Sull could all play 3 instead and release Moynihan. I d just swap Moynihan and Aidan Also I think David Moran would actually be a better foil for Daragh on this years form but you would have to pick Maher all the same on his form over the last few years Some impact forwards off the bench. Donncha for Galvin with 10mins to go, Crowley and Mike Frank in the full forward line

Amazing we all agree, must be a first. I started a thread on something similar a while back and I think it was Veteran who said it is not right to pit our own greats against each other; then my own stomach turned when I saw this thread and probably for the same reason, I wasn't nearly as brave as I thought. I suppose it gives us a feel for what management is like, how could you tell any of our current panel that he wasn't good enough to start? Ah well players are team focused but you see lads bursting their gut in training and then they don't get game time. I suppose managers are made of unique stuff too, just like players and I think I'll stick to the poetry for the time being!
On a more serious note, there is only Donaghy from Tralee and with only Maher and Paul from North of Tralee; is NK under-represented and if so is it that soccer and Rugby would be more prevailent? I wonder what is the population breakdown? Now there's an interesting thesis subject for some young egghead, "The Geographical Spread of The Kerry Ingredient". Now that the Brolly Folly is disproved maybe we can learn more about our conveyor belt. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT JOE?

Take JOD out (for now) and put Maurice Fitz in the corner- then put Donnacha Walsh on the wing fitzy didnt set the world alight in 2000 or 2001 so im not sure he can be included to be honest. Mike Frank and Gooch would be 13 and 15 anyway without question.

im going to go with.
-----------Murphy----------- Marc------Mike Mac-----Tom Sullivan Tomas------Seamus------Mahony -----Darragh---Scanlon Galvin---Declan-----Darran Gooch-----Star------Mike Frank
9 and 12 were the hardest to pick, the other 13 are nailed on to be honest.
i went with scanlon - 99 appearances and he nailed down midfield spot for 4 years alongside Darragh, started 3 all ireland finals in a row.
12 was a really hard one, but i went for Darran. he is there 10 years now and i think he deserves to be mentioned in the best 15 players in the county over the last 15 years.

I wouldnt disagree a whole pile with the Personnel picked aboove... Few positional swithes obviously. Id def have Anthony Maher in my team. Probably the only one mentioned that doesnt have an Allstar. Think he deserved one in 2012 and would possibly have got one this yr only for Morans dominance v Mayo. If he kicked his two point chances in the final he would have been nailed on and have got MOM. Seamus centre back and Mick Mac full. Donaghy has to be full forward.

Mike Frank for James O'D on the basis he was there longer. Just couldn't leave out Mike Frank Declan O'Keefe is worth a mention too

1 Diarmuid Murphy 2 Marc O Se 3 Mike McCarthy 4 Tom O Sullivan 5 Tomas O Se 6 Seamus Moynuhan 7 Eamon Breen 8 Darragh O Se 9 William Kirby 10 Paul Galvin 11 Maurice Fitzgearld 12 Declan O Sullivan 13 Colm Cooper 14 Kieran Donaghy 15 Mike Frank Russell
16 Declan O Keefe 17 Eamon Fitzmaurice 18 James O Donoghue 19 Donnacha Walsh 20 Aidan O Mahoney 21 Donal Daly 22 John Crowley 23 Darran O Sullivan 24 Brian Sheehan 25 Liam O Flaherty
Picked Eamon Breen at wing back, was a big fan of his, hard as the road, there have been better footballers then him but by god you knew what you were getting with Breen on the team could play a bit as well, scored a great goal against Kildare in 98 All Ireland Semi pity it was disallowed though!! I threw in Liam O Flaherty on the bench just in case, good back up man to have.
William Kirby at midfield with Darragh, thought himself and Donal Daly were very under rated but playing alongside Darragh I suppose it was no surprise.

Thread title is over the last 20 years and Maurice Fitz was outstanding in 94-98 so thats why he is included.
Liam Hassett was an unbelievable servant to Kerry and very accurate off both feet. Moynihan to midfield as I feel that was his natural position. He wouldnt need to do much Fielding anyway in the modern game or with Darragh beside him.
As for Donaghy he has been a good player for Kerry and his impact has been immense but, if I was picking a team of 'great' players I would have Fitz ahead of him in full forward.

No room for Dara Ó Cinnéide on ye're subs bench lads? I'd have him in with the extended panel anyway!
Tadhg could solve our problem position at left wing forward.

Might be better if choice was restricted to those players that have played consistently for Kerry for 10 years or more during the last 20 years?

Diarmuid Murphy.
Mike Hassett, Mike Mac, Tom.
Tomas, Seamus, Marc.
Darragh, Anthony Maher.
PG, Declan, Maurice Fitz.
Gooch, kieran, JOD.
I'd have to have Mike Hassett on somewhere, he was outstanding in the 90's when we were struggling & was the go to man to mark Colin Corkery for years, IMO if he wasn't deployed there would have been more to the fore in peoples eyes - 1997 was a black day in the treatment of kerry footballers , so wrong on so many fronts & he got his just reward in 2000.Definitely a better footballer than Aidan just a bit unlucky with timing, thats taking nothing away from Aidan. Maurice Fitz has to make every best team , 20 years brings him back to 1994 when he was flying & he was there well into the naughties - thats a frightening forward line.
Subs, Declan O Keeffe, Aidan O Mahony, Liam Hassett, Donal Daly, William Kirby, Dara O Cinneide, Mike Frank,Bryan Sheehan, Johnny Crowley, Pa Laide was outstanding in 97 could have been brillant only for injuries, Eoin Brosnan............we're lucky in kerry as the list in endless, some counties would pick it in 5 minutes.

fitzy didnt set the world alight in 2000 or 2001 so im not sure he can be included to be honest.Clearly it must have been a different player who nailed those old equalisers against Armagh and Dublin to keep us in the championship so, for both years!!!!!!! Could have sworn it was Fitzy. Anyway as someone said already, 20 years takes us back to 1994 so you have 1997 to consider when he was a country mile ahead all comers.

Glad to see some men of 1997 getting a mention, they can sometimes be overlooked. What a half-back line.
Paidí came in at a good time. After years of struggling at midefield, Darragh, Kirby and Daly all came along at the same time. I rated Kirby just (barely) ahead of Daly. After going of injured in 1997, it took Kirby a full 7 years and Jack's appointment to regain his place at midfield (he played wing-forward v Kildare in 1998). That is quite the comeback.

I spoke too soon re consensus, anyway if we did agree we'd be lying because we have such talents. I'd say the biggest difference in selections is the era fellas played in; many greats never got a Celtic Cross and if say Maurice Fitz didn't make his breakthrough between peaks then he would have helped us to a few more All Irelands. As it stands many would argue that he is the best footballer ever, if he peaked at the same time as an entire team it couldn't be disputed, on the other hand if he was from a weak county we may never have even heard of him so we have a lot to be thankful for, imperfect as it all is!!
I have never enjoyed supporting Kerry football as much in all my life as I do these days; I used always laugh it off when I saw fanatics letting off steam, now my own auld head is losin' it, I can't wait to see Cooper back in service while the thought of Donaghy leading us is mind blowing, moreover given how re reinvented himself and the stage of his career he was at; that takes commitment and mental prowess. And that's only two of a panel of 30; competition for places will be intense so while fellas will enjoy the winter I don't think they will be foolish.

It would be sacrilegious not to include Maurice in Kerry's best 15 from the previous 20 years. The argument between including MFR v JOD is completely valid and boils down to an estimation of which player will make the greater contribution to Kerry football. KD has to be in as he has changed the course of history twice, 2006 and 2014. His point to draw the 2011 final at the death was pure footballing genius and deserved better than McQullian saw fit. I'm looking forward to seeing if this great man can inspire Kerry to back to back titles in 2015. I don't think we need Breheny's like telling us how we selection the captain of the Kerry football team, get lost.

I think Donal Daly or Kirby were both better footballers than Maher and did it on more occasions so far. I wouldn't have Maher in there at this point. Daly '00 / '02. Kirby '97 & '04 performances would have them there before for me.
Fellas sticking Moynihan out there are doing the "All-Star Panel" job on it. How often did Monynihan play midfield for Kerry in championship?

O'Keeffe, Marc, Mike Mac, Tom Tomas, Flah, Seamo Darragh, Kirby Galvin, Declan, Maurice, Gooch, Star, JOD
Going with O'Keeffe over Murphy as O'Keeffe's kickouts were further and especially more accurate which is vital in the modern era. Going with Kirby over Scanlon and Daly as Kirby was the main man in 97 when Darragh was only a youngster and also in 04 when Darragh missed the final and most of the semi. For the other two, Darragh was probably the top midfielder in the country alongside them.

Maher has the potential to become the best of them all, with two huge All Ireland final day performances under his belt, 2011 and 2014.
Aidan has taken out both Ciaran McDonald and Michael Murphy on All-Ireland day, the oppositions key performers.
