Stacks a point down at half time but will be happy given they kicked the last 5 points of the half and have begun to get a real grip at midfield.

Ardfert won by 9 points, 1.13 to 0.09.
The Stacks v Ballincollig was enthralling from start to finish. Congrats to both teams. Sport at its purest.

Gripping game today in Tralee.
Would be great if Stacks got to Croke Park on March 17. If they won Munster, they would be down to play the Ulster champs in the semi.

Gripping game today in Tralee. Would be great if Stacks got to Croke Park on March 17.They might win Munster but I think they would need a major dose of good fortune to get past the semi-final. I think they are a good way off the serious contenders at this level.

Realistically, I can never see the Club Championship wrapped up in the calendar year.
What would people think of the proposal that winning the Co. Championship qualifies your team for the following years Munster/All-Ireland campaigns? They could be played at the same time as the NFL maybe.

Stacks and Ardfert both out on the 30th November in the Munster finals. Any chance of a double header I wonder.

I thought that before but momentum could be seriously gone. Some clubs put in a massive effort for one year, maybe some players' last hurrah but sustaining that into the next year would be very difficult.

Ballincollig were a very poor side i felt. It goes to show the standard in Cork has gone down quite a lot

Austin Stacks 0-15 Ballincollig 1-9 (after extra-time)
Kerry kingpins Austin Stacks eventually got past a dogged Ballincollig side in this competitive Munster club SFC semi-final in Tralee, but it should never have gone to extra time, as Stacks after a slow start, took over but never killed off the visitors.
Ballincollig made a perfect start, dominating around the middle of the field and winning breaking ball, with attacking wing-back Cian Kiely particularly effective.
The Cork champions got an early breakthrough in the sixth minute when county star Patrick Kelly goaled. A 45 dropped short and Kelly took his chance with a clinical finish.
Stacks were dependent on All Star Kieran Donaghy to gain possession up front, but the supply of ball into him was poor.
Ballincollig were hunting in packs, winning breaking ball at midfield and with Sean Kiely, Kelly, former Cork player John Miskella and John Kelly driving them forward and moving with menace, they caused the Stacks rearguard all sorts of problems.
Stacks were relying on sporadic attacks and Ballincollig added a fine point from corner-forward Kelly after a Stacks defender failed to hold on to the ball.
Stacks opened their account in the 13th minute after Donaghy was fouled and Shane Carroll converted the free, but at the other end Ballincollig replied through Cian Dorgan.
Dorgan added another point and after 16 minutes the Cork side led 1-3 to 0-1, with only one team at the races.
Then came a metamorphosis when Stacks switched Donaghy to midfield, and from that point on, though at times they huffed and they puffed, Stacks dominated the game.
Shane Carroll, Pa McCarthy and David Mannix (2) added points and with 24 minutes gone, the Tralee side trailed by just two.
On the stroke of half-time, Stacks' Shane O’Callaghan pointed to leave one between the sides at the interval, Ballincollig 1-4 to Stacks 0-6.
Stacks suffered a body blow when they lost their best defender Ronan Shanahan after a high tackle, but still had the momentum and Carroll levelled the scores in the 33rd minute.
The same player put them in front for the first time minutes later, converting another free though, Cork star Miskella levelled to minutes later after a good pass from Patrick Kelly.
Stacks were defending well with Donaghy a massive influence around the middle third; they took over and looked the more likely side to win.
With Greg Horan kicking a mighty point after a good run from midfield Ballincollig were unable to breach a strong Stacks rearguard, while at the other end Stacks were guilty of dropping too many balls into the Ballincollig keeper’s hands.
The experienced Miskella was playing a Donaghy-type role as he swept up a lot of breaking ball in his own defence.
In the 48th minute Stacks wing-back Denis McElligott kicked a great score to give his side a two-point lead, but they failed to drive home their advantage with some poor shooting and tendency to play the ball laterally.
This was to come back to haunt them as Ballincollig landed a fine point by midfielder John Kiely in the 50th minute, and then grabbed an equaliser through Miskella with the final action of normal time.
Stacks dominated the opening period of extra-time and added three points from Darragh Long, McCarthy and a superb effort from Mannix.
Ballincollig tried hard in the second period and added two points but in truth, with Donaghy conducting matters, they never looked like getting the goal they required.

What age is Greg Horan?. Massive leadership displayed by him today when the fat was in the fire. Also Daniel Bohane was excellent.

Greg Horan did stand out today. Great attitude in the post match interview - modest & unassuming - that with his ability makes him a player of the future. Bohane also had a great game but very surprised to see him wearing no 12 - one time our solution to fullback in the county & now left half forward with his club. Hurlingman said Ballincollig were "poor". They took our championd to extra time - the comment is unfair.
As Mickmack said a double header with the Stack and Ardfert would be great - the Rock and Ardfert are only about 5 miles apart - the supporters would know each other.

I must say I wasnt impressed with that game today. Stacks started that aul "over and back" stuff fierce early. The pitch looked ok on the telly but the bounce was fairly dead. I presume it took a good bit of rain over the last few days. They should win Munster now, but it gets tricky after that. Vincents look too strong for anything that I have seen, unfortunately.

- the Rock and Ardfert are only about 5 miles apart - the supporters would know each other. The Rock and Ardfert always had close links. William Kirby Dad was from Ardfert. Ger OKeefe father was from Banna. Denis McElligotts father is from Kilmoyley. When the hurling died in The Rock some of their hurlers played with Ardfert. A double header would be great.

Horan had a fine game and is essentially a wing forward- attempts to play him in defence at Kerry minor level were unfair to him; I too thought Ballincollig were "poor" - they scored 1-4 in the first 15 mins, 3 points after that and only 2 in the 20 mins of extra time; they were very limited in attack, and quite often ran into cul de sacs- the loss of their No 9 was too big an obstacle for them and their replacements were not up to the required standard; Cork champions over past few years have made no impression in Munster with Castlehaven being well beaten by Crokes twice and UCC also losing out to the Lewis Rd outfit.

As an aside- with the talent at their disposal, the minors really left behind the All Ireland in 2013. A lot of this years team plus Horan, Jordan, Jack Savage, Conor Keane, Cathal O Luing, David Foran, Eanna O Conchuir. Stacks have some amount of young talent coming through at this stage

no mention of an old talent coming off the bench, at 39 william kirby made some fine fetches and used his experience to great effect.

Fantastic win by The Nire considering that club football in Clare was said to be of better quality than club football in Kerry. Stacks better watch out.
