Jack O'Connor was asked early last year about the participation of other Munster counties in the Leinster Minor League and whether that was an option that Kerry should consider. His reply was that he felt that Kerry minors had plenty of football to be playing already and that he would prefer if they had less football commitments, not more. I think it's fair to say that subsequent circumstances vindicated his judgement.....

Minor County leagues starting today. There must be no equivelent in most other Counties that they have time to participate in the Leinster league. I'm sure Clubs wouldn't be impressed if they had to play County league without intercounty minor players. With Cork and Tipperary having so many dual players must put players under huge pressure.

Its a fine balance between overplaying and good preparation - totally agree that its up to management to decide whether participation in a minor league is correct course of action or not. Kerry hurlers opted to partake in Leinster league and footballers not - hurlers participation is already proving disruptive as some dual players are not available to clubs for county league fixtures.

A notable win for Carlow over Cork.

Minors had 2 games recently playing Mayo on Paddy's Day & Laois last Sat; they lost both but were short the PCD players( 3- Marc O'Connor, Tom O'Sullivan, Geaney) , plus 4/5 more through injury. The panel still seems fluid as they practically used 2 different teams last week.

Sen has a few players overage for minor playing also.

There was nothing from Henry Shefflin as a minor to suggest that he would become an intercounty hurler never mind one of the all time greats so trying to figure who will make it and who wont is not an exact science to say the least.

Interesting trivia he scored 1-2 in a game against a minor Laois side who needed an injury time goal to win it and who went on to win the All-Ireland that year. He definitely had some ability as a minor, unfortunately he was lost to the other code

Leinster Minor League Update. Clare (play Kerry 15/4) lost to Kildare & Dublin, beat Laois (by 4pts). Cork beat Wicklow and Wexford, lost to Carlow (qualified for SF based on head to head with Cork) Limerick lost to Ath Cliath, Offaly and Weatmeath. Tipp lost to Meath & Louth, beat Longford. Ath Cliath play Kildare in Final having beaten Meath (by 1pt) and Carlow (by 12pts) respectively. Not sure if form translates and how much teams used the competition to look at various players (which would be expected)

It's interesting how players that were unstoppable in U14 and U15 have dropped off the radar. I know that some have had bad injury problems but it just goes to show what a difference a year makes

Young Savage was out injured as was Tom Hoare. Colin Doody was back from injury and came on in the second half. Mark O' Connor gave another magnificent display and in my opinion Liam Brosnan had a superb game in full forward. Pa Sheehy has come on so much in these last few years. Great game again last night
