Would that not be on the basis of their movement, dynamism and athleticism rather than size... which I presume you are getting at? Well size would definitely be a big (!) factor in it. I mean, if we had two players with Tommy's identical characteristics but one was 5'5 instead of 6'5 you would probably be wasting your time sending the 5'5 version out to try and spoil kick outs aimed at Flynn. Fair enough by the same token I wouldn't send Mike Quirke out to track Connolly on kick outs, but I could see Walsh and Buckley being deployed in that horses for courses manner being able to compete with those two in a variety of ways.

Some interesting points. I didn’t know there was a Geaney in Meath, - if he is not too far off the standard for Kerry and has not played for Kerry, why has he not thrown in his lot with Meath? In their current “transition” they could do with him. David Geaney. Was a lovely club player as I recall. We did an interview with him a while back: Here if interested: livegaelic.com/features/dingle-dunboyne-aiming-keegan-cup-glory/

That would be very disappointing if true. One of my all time favourite players I have to say. Hopefully, he'll give it another year (or two!). If not, he certainly owes us nothing.

One of south Kerry's finest footballing poets, this seems to be the sounding from huddled conclaves on the scenic peninsula. I'm sure Declan and Eamonn will sit down at some point and discuss the variables.

It wasn't Uncle Pat was it?! Come championship next year I'd like to see this six Donnachadh, Gooch, O Brien Geaney,Walsh, James O D The players being left out will be unbelievably unlucky, Buckley, Mikey Geaney, Donaghy, Sheehan,BJK. The options we have are frightening at the moment. Obviously there will be otehr injury worries and loss of form to contend with as the year goes on. And hopefully we will see Killian Spillane in a senior jersey in the years to come, but lets let him establish himself with u21s first. The Dubs thought their options were frightening in 2013. I get concerned when people use vocabulary like that around teams especially their own supporters Probably the same people who were condemning our underage football and proclaiming us to a decade of watching the Dubs winning Sam year after year!!!

I know this is a wild one. Anyone know what Tadgh Kennellys story is. I heard he was home for good. Now I don't how true that is, but he is still only 33. Might be able to give a year or two? Or even get involved in a coaching/fitness capacity. His experiences in Oz along with Tommys would stand to us I'd imagine.

I'm sure what is more on his mind now is being able to still run around with his children as the years pass by rather than being crippled after another year or two of Division 3 football when he's knees clearly arnt up for it

I totally agree. We've discussed that game in a fair bit of detail previously. IMO no player would have held Hurley that day,he was alight. Hurley is a top player, so the context of Griffin's performance in many posts I think is very harsh. Full back is a perpetual problem to find a long term solution. If Aidan retires we don't have any other strong physical players that will command this position. I already suggested Maher with his tackling improved, has bite. With Tommy back,it could be an option. I was shot down last time, because he is a fine midfielder which he is but not consistent. His season only really kicked on once Mayo arrived, and he had a good final, but he's a player I expect more from. I might be unreasonable

Oops my reply was to a post at bottom of page 2 when page 3 not only existed but is half full.
On Declan, I'd say the young family is pulling hard at him. What is the knee problem(s)? Cartilage? He is still young enough but has a lot of miles on the clock. There was no bandages for the final. Maybe if the op is straightforward but key, the hunger is there he has two more years there. Star has at least two years in him in his full forward role. He's fit from injuries, the boots are filled with confidence, massive leader. A definite for 2015 anyway. Dec is one of my all time favourites, a brilliant footballer and scoring forward, has great character, like Star. Has shipped a lot of unjustified abuse too, including some from his own people. Definitely in the greatest Kerry front 6 of all time for me. A legend. Hope he plays on, has plenty to offer still.

Anyone who thinks they are still good enough won't be turned away from training and the rookies will be pitted against them and the rest is down to Fitzy & Co. Fellas will know themselves anyway.
Once upon a time David Moran was chipping at Darragh's heals for a MF post and, well, stuff of legends, I think Darragh told it, well half of it, his half, anyone who knows more please feel free to tell us more, you'll burst your arse, a pure classic, fact is stranger than fiction!!

I might be unreasonable That Begley lad from An Ghaeltacht (I think anyway) who was full back for the minors looked excellent in the couple of games I saw of them, would be great to see him kick on in the next couple of years.

Declan doesn't need to be getting started til next March and a lot can happen between now and then.
