It has come to the time of the year for all South Kerry Gaels to start to wonder who of the South Kerry clubs will lift the Jack Murphy come the end of the year.My money would be on Waterville as they are going very well in County League Div 1 and just lately beat the reigning champions ballyfoilmore in a county league game.Any other opinions out there.

St.Marys are after hammering Bally today in SK league.. They are sure to be genuine contenders if they can sort out their backs

Always enjoy going to a couple of these games every year, not as exciting as north kerry but never the less very enjoyable

I just hope this does not go too late into the year again. It looks like it wont start until the start of November (pending south kerry go all the way in the county championship & Dromid in the Junior).

Skeillig Rangers v St. Marys - St.Marys Sneem/Derrynane v Bally/Foilmore - Bally/Foilmore Renard v Valentia - Renard Waterville v Dromid -Waterville (could be a shock here)
A lot will depend on the semi final draw

If there is to be a shock in the q/f it could be in Portmagee, where the Rangers will try to repeat their heroics of 1982 when they defeated a strong St Mary's team.I doubt if Dromid will defeat Waterville with the lakesiders flying in Division 1 and doubts about Declan o Sullivan.I agree that the semi final draw could be all important

Any possible dates being mentioned for the q/finals. Reports around South Kerry that bally/foilmore have engaged the services of a top outside coach to try to do the 3 in a row which eluded them in 2009

well i'd say nothing will be fixed until after this weekend anyway. but even if dromid progress on sunday they other semi cant be played until after the county final because of glenbeigh's and mid kerry involvment.

Clubs have been told a provisional date of 4 weeks time to prepare - I don't know why the wait but again the South Kerry board dictate.

Thanks iftbs, Waterville seem to be the favourites this year by general consensus on the ground. well i dont know about us being the favourites. but i think, if we get over Dromid which is always a big if, we have a chance. But as ever the Mary's will be well.. the mary's. the ultimate championship team. and Bally/foilmore are still, obviously, very strong. pretty open between those three i think. anyone have the odds from louis nolan?

Waterville's to lose is the way people are looking at it. Very impressive all year in Division and after beating mary's last weekend in a 'pre-championship style' south kerry league final with a lot of hard hits going in from both sides. As in for the breaks has pointed out the mary's always come there or there abouts for Jack Murphy come the business end of the year, but heading down to the muck in Portmagee will not suit. Personally i feel Bally should not be written off just yet, with Harry O'Neill in now full time, i'm hearing they are putting in a huge effort to try and put things right on the field. Will they get that 3 in a row they are searching for? Bally v Waterville final is what i would predict if they avoid each other in the semi's. And although i should go with my heart i just cannot see waterville being beaten - especially out in waterville.

There was good Championship style belting in the League final alright, Mary's backs looked beyond bad, possibly the worst in South Kerry, even taking into account the 3 division 5 teams, but have the best forwards in South Kerry by a mile which should bail them out even if Portmagee keep the pitch extremely narrow

Game of the round has to be in the island on Sunday where the home side under the guidance of one Linus Burke will be hoping to overcome Renard for the second time.Home advantage may well see the Young islanders home as they are a good championship side. Skellig Rangers will be seeking to beat St Mary's to repeat their famed 1982 victory over the same side. A victory that is still celebrated wildly by some of their number

Renard v Valentia should be a great tie, Renard goin well this year and promotion is in their own hands, but Valentia are always a team that can come from nowhere when it comes to SK champ. Should be a massive crowd in Portmagee for Marys v Skeillig. I would predict a good physical encounter down there with the home side looking to make home advantage count. But Id have to predict a Mary's win as they have too much scoring power for Port to handle. Once the Marys can keep Ciaran Keating quite they should do the job
