JBM's practical approach was always going to draw criticism from those who believe that the game can be tactically structured to replicate slower, more formation-based field sports. It can't. Comment -John O'Keeffe said as long ago as the day after the 2002 Tyrone v Kerry AI Final that short foot passing renders useless the blanket/pack hunting tactic, I.e. speed and pace of game. Note the similarity although hurling is naturally faster? I highly recommend the article at this address to fans of the big ball as well as the small www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/jimmy-barrymurphy-sticking-to-old-values-in-new-drive-for-glory-30512347.html

Don't know much about his tactician stats and approach, but he is a proven winner as player and manager. His team let him and fans down today, they were poison, Conor Lehane as an exception, a beautiful stickman. One thing I will say about JBM is that in terms of sportsmanship, few can equal. He's a gentleman.

probably j b m greatest legacy will may not be his ability on the field of play in both codes or managing cork to minor and senior all ireland victories, but he is the man who united cork hurling again. respected by fans, players and county board and will do what is best for his team his way. they lost the respect of gaa people both in their own county and country wide with alot of nonsense [ego driven on all sides] since john allen retired as manager.

Did it expose a gentleman lacking that killer instinct? The Tipp Mgr was impressive after the game although it is hard to compare with Cody as the latter talks all day but gives nothing away, media trained?

It helped that alot of ego's retired from the hurling panel!!! But your right, he is well respected and he's done a pretty good job with what isn't as talented a panel as Cork had in the previous decade.
