Folks, if Kerry had lost the Munster Final, and ended up in the All-I semi via Monaghan for example, they would be playing in the 2nd semi. Ditto possibilities for the other teams. These things were decided long ago as far as I'm aware. I don't think anyone saw this whole thing as being anti-Kerry.

www.hoganstand.com/Football/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=223260Gay pride parade to clash with Kerry-Mayo replay 28 August 2014 The Pride Parade is expected to bring the city to a near standstill. Considerable traffic congestion is expected in Limerick on Saturday when the city hosts both the All-Ireland SFC semi-final replay between Kerry and Mayo and the biggest gay pride parade ever to take place in Ireland. GAA supporters have been advised to travel early as the Pride Parade – which is the highlight of Limerick Pride Week – is expected to bring the city to a near standstill. Many streets around the city centre will be closed off to traffic for the parade which gets underway at 2pm – three hours before the eagerly-awaited replay throws in at the nearby Gaelic Grounds. The anticipated traffic delays will only add to the frustration felt by Mayo fans, in particular, at the GAA’s decision to fix the replay for Limerick. Following last Sunday’s drawn encounter, the Connacht champions requested that the replay be postponed and held in Croke Park seven days later, but this wasn’t entertained by GAA top brass. GAA headquarters is unavailable this Saturday because it was already committed to hosting an American football college game between the University of Central Florida and Penn State. For information on traffic arrangements, check out the Limerick GAA website, www.limerick.ie They could change the starting time - can they not bend the rules? FFS Rashers just free up Croke Park on Sat 6th instead of holding it for the Dubs!!! Mollycoddling the Dubs is starting to hurt the gay people of Ireland now!!! haha

Veteran You nailed it thanks for that. Great counter argument I've been saying it all week Let's decentralize some of these big games give Limerick A chance. Give Thurles a go and Cork and Killarney Now the precedent has been set One day Tipp will play a final in Thurles and what's wrong With that Not before I win the lotto and marry Beyonce! When a final is played in Thurles (or anywhere outside of Croke Park) do you and veteran think that the GAA will arrange for flying pigs to deliver the ball to the middle of the field?!!!!! lol

I left home last sunday at 12.30 and was sitting in Croke Park at 1.20. The ticket cost 40e and a fiver for two bus fares. I was home again for 6.30.
I am in favour of playing big games in Limerick, Cork, Clones, Thurles.
I also think that Dublin should be expected to travel outside Dublin for replays and if the ground cant take the crowd so be it. A replay in Clones between Donegal and Dublin would be great for Clones and great fun too. Its called fairness. I am looking forward to the day in Limerick. I am concerned though that the lack of hawkeye will deny one of these great teams a place in the final.
There is always a big feckin wind blowing in that ground.... or at least that has been my experience.

NFL for instance are going from New York to Phoenix, ~82,000 seater stadium to ~85,000; which is hardly comparable to the GAA! In terms of pitch quality, facilities, capacity, transport etc Croke Park is the b-all and end-all!! The GAA will never move a big game out of Croke Park, nor should they. It's naive of people to buy the line that this is the GAA helping out Limerick . Lets not pretend otherwise.

Team to be named in about an hour. I don't imagine too many changes with Declan perhaps replacing O'Brien in the FF line.

Veteran - I think your post is very well written and well articulated, but you are projecting a view that is to your favourability with regard to your perception of the GAA but find others' opinions mystifying regarding the Limerick fixture. Nothing wrong with that it's your opinion. I do find it a little ironic though that you are then so wound up over the colour of the jersey Kerry need to wear when the green and gold is not allowed. I'd prefer green and gold but the blue is fine if needs be. I always have the memory of blue Willie Maher putting Meath to the sword in 86 semi final, and Mayo crushed in 79 also in a flavour of same blue, if I find my faith creaking and thought start wandering toward the colour of the jersey for vilification. I have a major issue with the game being placed in Limerick that has been articulated by many others. 1) Lack of notice to teams in advance 2) Lack of input by the two teams that might influence the decision. 3) Clear inconsistency in allowing a date in Croke park for a replay if Dublin v Donegal match requires it but not for Mayo v Kerry 4) As is obvious Croke Park is the best pitch, biggest stadium in the country. The match is the joint second most important football intercounty game in the calendar year. In the context of that, the projected support the effort put in by players and management, officials, supporters from both sides, the chance for both sets of players to exhibit their best playing form - with no disrespect meant to Limerick, it is just an incidental location that is the nub of this issue, why the fcuk would any player, manager, official, club member and supporter in their right mind want to go there and scramble for a ticket, end up wedged in a terrace when their main stadium is by default used for this fixture every year. 5) The fact that it's an American colleges football game indicates greed over careful fixture planning 5) Finally, and most importantly I can't f****n go, so am extra touchy :-) So maybe the opprobrium shouldn't be such a surprise? "Lack of notice to teams in advance"- As far as I know the replay date was pencilled in earlier in the year. "Lack of input by the two teams etc" Are teams generally consulted about venues ? Is this not a function of the fixtures committee.? " Clear inconsistency in allowing a date for Croke Park etc" As far as I know this US college date would have been arranged about eighteen months ago. Would the GAA have known that Dublin would be involved in a semifinal on the 31/08/14 and therefore in a putative replay on the 06/09/14,at the the time the colleges' date was decided on? "Croke park is the best pitch -- players and supporters wanting to go there etc". No argument about Croke Park being the best pitch. I agree of course that players would normally want to play there. However, privately, while making the right noises publicly, I suspect that Eamon and friends are not entirely unhappy with the choice of venue in this instance. Regarding supporters. I will not be pretentious enough to speak on behalf of Mayo supporters but I will be bold enough to speak on behalf of Kerry supporters. I read during the week that there is "unprecedented demand for tickets" in Kerry. I cannot ever recall that happening before for a semifinal. Why is it happening this time I wonder? Could it be that a lot of Kerry supporters are embracing the chance of a lifetime of seeing their beloved team playing an All-Ireland semifinal down the road? These boys and girls are not prepared to look a gift horse in the mouth. A lot of them would never dream of traveling to Croke Park for various reasons. No doubt they are very grateful to the "Greedy GAA", I wish them well. "so wound up over the colour of the jersey Kerry need to wear" Never was the head of a nail hit with such accuracy. After all,the grass is green in the Gaelic Grounds, the dimensions are not entirely dissimilar to Croke Park, it will be as difficult/easy to score there as up in Dublin. Furthermore, I have no doubt that the GAA fraternity in Limerick will make superhuman efforts to have the pitch in pristine condition and to ensure that everything runs off like clockwork, with an eye to attracting future big matches. I wish them good luck as well. In other words, substituting one pitch for another is not impossible . But blue a substitute for green and gold? Not in a million years. You see, something that speaks to the soul cannot be replicated. P.S. I notice a poster has spoken of needing pigs to fly before an All-Ireland final is played in Thurles. Believe it or believe it not, those pigs were seen flying when the All-Ireland hurling final was played there in 1984. Oh, those GAA officials are such, greedy, regressive old dodos. A strange world.

Great to see O Brien starting, hope to good he lasts the game; whatever about Star, Mayo didn't look like they had an answer for SOB. Fingers crossed he lasts longer than the last day - as you say he looked to have the Mayo backs in a lot of bother - I felt the tactic of JOD dropping deep became a lot less effective when he went off, as it made things far too easy for the Mayo defence.

A fit O'Brien will cause Mayo all sorts of problems, but I'm surprised he is fit after only 4 days tbh.
Is there a chance they are giving him right up to throw in time to see if he is good to go? Let's hope he is.

It's only a pitty that it isn't in Croke Park, all that space and great surface, made for someone like O Brien. But in saying that I'm sure he'll thrive in Limerick too.
And it's good to see Eamonn keeping faith with plan A and not having a knee jerk reaction and starting Star. Star's introduction will left the team, unlike it has done in 4-5 years.

Let's hope he is. Won't be the first lad to start a championship game for us this year not fully fit - so far in the championship we've had Moran, Darran, JOD, Declan, Donnacha and Maher start games despite not being fully fit by my reckoning (and I'm sure there were a few more, that weren't as obvious) In only 4 games that's a very high number of gambles on players fitness and says a huge amount about the strength of our squad imo.

Cant see how Stephen O'Brien will be fit after coming off after 20mins and with only a 6 day turn around.I'm no Doctor/Physio but I'd imagine a muscle injury would need more time than that. Boys on Newstalk believe there's no way the team thats named will start for Kerry.

With 6 subs it's not as insane as it was a risk to start a player who isn't fit, especially compared to the time when it was 3 subs.

It may not be that unbelievable that O Brien would start. He/Eamonn may have simply been precautious the last day and he went off before doing any serious damage. Given his previous injuries, it may simply be the case that O Brien himself now knows when to stop rather than risk doing further damage.

Delighted to see O'Brien start.. Seriously didn't think he'd turn it around after coming off the last day, but it may be a case that he came off before doing serious damage, and strapping it up or what ever is enough to do? In any case it will keep Mayo guessing,... If he has to be hauled ashore the next day there is the strong possibility of Star going in, so they will have to plan for that too! Hopefully Stephen has enough to make it well into the game, would love to see him get a good run at it as I think he has to the potential to be one of our stand out forwards.
