Forget about County Championships or the All Ireland for the next week, for any football supporters looking for a real local derby, call on the O'Rahilly Park Ballylongford next Friday evening for the battle of Clounmacon V Listowel Emmets B in the Junior County League Division 2 Final. For any football supporter who would not be familiar with this pairing and the pride and passion when these clubs meet, you will certainly get value for money next Friday night when these great rivals go head to head. Situated only a couple of miles north of Listowel is the GAA grounds of Clounmacon who have operated as a Junior club for the past number of years with plenty of success, having previously operated in Division 5 of the County League for a brief period a few years back. Previous success would include a Senior North Kerry Championship in the 1950's. Despite having no underage structure they have continued to field teams in Junior competitions which is a credit to the club and their team is made up of former underage players for Ballydonoghue, Moyvane and Listowel. Despite many good battles with numerous teams over the years, there is no doubt that any fixture against the local town team always brings the best out of them. A most recent meeting between these sides even made the national newspapers if that is any hint of the healthy rivalry. Listowel Emmets B are made up of youth and experience, with former senior players continuing to operate at a lower level and a nice blend of minors and u21 players. Again they can struggle for numbers at times as all junior teams these days, however a meeting with the local rivals also brings the best out of the town team which adds to the occassion. Having met twice already in 2014, Clounmacon were victorious on both occasions and based on that fact would have to be slight favourites for this upcoming final. With both teams socialising in the same water holes in Listowel, neither team will want to lose this one. Expect passion, aggression and even blood as these go into battle, you can talk about your Kerry V Cork or Rahillys V Stacks games, but there is no local derby to compare with Clounmacon V Listowel, and a county final between these two is a very rare occasion, so keep Friday the 25th of July free and watch these amateurs go into battle!!! Comments welcome and all a bit of craic!!

Clounmacon were north Kerry senior champs in the 1950s. when did the slide slip in? Would many Clounmacon lads at present have played for Emmets at adult level?
I take it Gale Rangers are gone a while now. Many years?

Jackeen Clounmacon were north Kerry senior champs in the 1950s. when did the slide slip in? Would many Clounmacon lads at present have played for Emmets at adult level? I take it Gale Rangers are gone a while now. Many years? Mossie Clounmacon were North Kerry Champions in 1954, and had numerous battles with Duagh in the 50's. I would suggest they fell by the wayside in the 70's and 80's due to immigration etc and the closure of the school in Clounmacon meant alot of young lads growing up in the area would have went to Listowel, Ballydonoghue and Moyvane for an education. This would have led to many players playing underage with their school friends at those clubs, therefore Clounmacon suffered as a result and had some tough years!! However today the club is as strong as it has ever been, recent developments of the grounds, including a new club house and pitch indicates this is a club on the way up again! I would assume that 8-12 of the current Clounmacon team would have played with Listowel at some level, underage/junior/senior in the past. These players would have left as they struggled to break into the senior team and had no patience to try break onto the team, or had fallen out with the Listowel club for numerous reasons. This adds to the rivilary as many of these players would now hate the sight of an Emmets jersey as a result. The remainder of the players would be similar cases from Moyvane and Ballydonoghue. Overall this should be a cracker, and the big question is which Black and Amber will lift the trophy tomorrow night!!

If he was such as threat it isnt in Ballylongford he would be playing tonight. Talented player but head and attitide seems to be all wrong. Can't believe you compared him to Cox, no comparrision!!

No criticism, he is a club man but frustrates me in that he has so much more to offer than what we see!! Best of luck to both teams tonight, going to be a cracker!!

Ah bollocks to that. Ref was very one-sided giving the town team everything and how the Listowel corner back stayed on the pitch I'll never know (:-P)
