I wouldn't call it negativity. I would call it realism. We were rolled over pretty comprehensivly by all the top tier teams in the league and fell away to a 14 man Dublin when the game was there for the winning. Mayo, Cork, and Derry all gave us the run around and we beat a poor Kildare and woeful Westmeath team. Our best performance was against Tyrone and looking at them in the last few weeks in the championship they don't seem up to much. We have some players that are showing promise (Paul Murphy, Paul Geaney, O'Brien, Fionn Fitz) but, I think most people are accepting we will beat Clare but are keeping an eye on bigger challenges ahead in the Summer. I think NFL form is totally irrelevant on the back of a 11 week gap and cant have any bearing on how the players perform tomorrow. I'd love to know how much it has cost the KCB to maintain the players in this 11 week window, and since January.

Some of the criticism here is way beyond constructive and is typical of some of the supporters that call Kerry useless unless they are winning All Irelands every other year. We were spoiled by the the second Golden Team just as we were by the first.
Eamon and Co, unlike us, are privy to what is happening in training so we will have to put our trust in them and get behind whichever team they select 100%. The players read this board and any undue negativity could cost us the small needed edges needed to cross the line.
Hopefully Anthony Maher will return to his 2012 form where he was kicking points from 50 yards and in dominating mode. Shane Enright to have a championship to finally answer his critics. Kerry need a grafting wing forward and with Donnacha not 100% fit Michael Geaney is the only one on the panel that fits the mold. Excited about Paul Geaney's and Stephen O'Brien's first championship starts, they are well capable of lighting up this championship. Also another debutant Paul Murphy is a star in the making. All is not doom and gloom, I would not write us off just yet.

Brian Hurley scoreless and taken off. Paul Kerrigan taken off. Mark Collins taken off. About 15 mins left and Cork trail Tipp 1-10 to 0-11.
Aidan Walsh and Colm O' Neill on from the bench with Cork in a spot of bother!

All is not doom and gloom, I would not write us off just yet. I agree but I think constructive comment/criticism is harmless and can be, well constructive. Eamonn answered his critics last year and as supporters we must get behind him and we have an obligation to do so. There are a lot of people who give freely of their time for our benefit so we would be very weak spirited if we didn't step up to the plate in every respect. They are our team and I for one don't do a whole pile as I live in Donegal so the least I can do is offer a bit of positivity. I also write poetry that may push chests out a little bit and for which I don't get paid, but I enjoy it and that's good enough for me. Here's the address of Ventry Harboured and which was inspired of by Páidí. ballythefireside.blogspot.ie/2010/02/ventry-harboured-for-those-who-havent.htmlAnd no, I am not engaging in self-publicity or what ever it is called. If you enjoy it good luck and if you don't then read something else that makes you happy. Slán go foil a chairde Chiarraí

Looking forward to my first trip to the pitch in Ennis. I hope you won't be disappointed in the result but almost certainly will be as far as the 'stadium' is concerned. It's a kip and hasn't changed in 25years+. Anyway, as long as we win and move on....

Have been reading this forum for a long time and eventually got round to joining. Seems to be a lot of negativity around. First point I want to make is that we are nearer to All-Ireland success now than Clare were to a hurling All-Ireland this time last year.
Kerry is the only football county that can produce a relatively unknown talent that will turn an All-Ireland final with a man of the match display. One or two hurling counties can. Last year we were within a kick of a ball of beating Dublin and they were clear All-Ireland winners. We are better this year and the league run proved that. The retirements don’t matter. We tend to picture the person that retires at the peak of their career. The Tomas O Se that played against Dublin was a pale shadow of him at his peak. A fit determined young player could give the performance he gave and we are still within a kick of a ball. Replacing Colm Cooper is a different story. You don’t try to replace - him its impossible. The forwards will have a different “shape” without him which may allow some the freedom to do things they weren’t allowed before.
Dublin are not great. We constantly hear about fit, strong, determined, quality of subs, ete etc. We never hear Great. They play a haphazard game allowing opposition take leads, get scores etc. A typical situation is high ball dropping in centre - mid fielder fails to hold it but another player running hits it forward before it hits the ground into the path of a third player who eventually holds it. This is fitness, support play, and probably tactical brilliance. The trick is to punish them for the first player not holding it. They miss scores under pressure and are always looking for that killer goal not aware of the five points they’ve missed in an effort to get it.
The Kerry team playing today is a better team than the one that faced Dublin last year. (Again not dwelling on absence of Gooch). The goal that Mannion got should never have happened – any of you old enough to remember Michael O’Hehir “..brings out man ball and all before him”. I would like to see Crowley in the centre - he has presence in a position that has to be “manned” – Fionn would be fine in the wing. (Not saying Fionn can’t play in the centre – just looking for more balance). Maher needs to step up to the mark – had an indifferent league. The forwards are worth a run in this formation – very impressed with O’Brien in the league.
Clare will have good tough players. They will be a good test for the inexperienced debutants. The best result for Kerry would be a 4 or 5 points win with a sub text that the young guns manfully took on tough opponents and won the duals - staying under the radar but having personal success.

Kerry have a game on their hands in Ennis. Paul Geaney playing well it seems.
You'd expect Kerry to settle down in the second half.

Terrible really so far.
Hope they pick up for the second half. If they don't we'll be getting out the road maps.
Umpires a joke. Clare got a point that was half a metre wide!

Just home. Terrible performance, sideline were atrocious again today. Hadn't a clue. Pushed Paul Murphy up the field to follow his man collins and left us wide open at the back. Stupid tactics. I will post a proper report later

I dont understand why he would start David Moran . It was clear to see he was injured and not fit . He could not run after his man . He could not have been going well in Training but yet they pick him . Maher was poor also . Midfield is a big problem for Kerry and Marc O'Se wont do at Full Back . Kelly was good in Goals . Enright was good in the second half . I think Murphy at 5 Crowley at 6 and Fionn at 7 would be our best half back line . Marc and Enright and you could see O'Mahony at full back he played well today when he came on . Maher is playing poor football and it's hard to give him the start against Cork . You could see Sheehan go there or maybe Buckley with Moran . The Forwards did ok today . O'Brien and Paul Geaney have to start along with O'Donoghue that could be your full forward line . You could see Declan going back to the Forty with Donnacha and Darren on the wings . We will definitely need James O'Donoghue back for Cork .

After receiving a severe health setback last September, I was glad to be back "in action" today. I expected a tough match, being in the trough that we are, but I did not expect it to be so finely balanced. It certainly did not help my convalescence.
Clare were flying, fit as fiddles and superbly coached. They also had some fine footballers. I hope they and Tipperary repeat their Munster form in the qualifiers and ,if they do, they will give lip to anybody.
Kerry were sluggish, particularly in the first half, and looked every inch a team who have not played competitively for several weeks. It was fortunate that we got a goal so early because, for most of that half, we were hanging on with very brittle fingernails. Furthermore, Brian Kelly made a miracle save, perhaps two in the same movement or it may have been a defender who made the second, to preserve our respirations at a time when Clare were rampant and Kerry were reeling. We were fortunate to trail by only one at half time. It was a worry and indeed at that stage a lot of us were contemplating the scenic route to whatever is in store for us in 2014.
While Clare never faded, it was clear before the second half was too advanced that Kerry were now more abrasive and purposeful. The backs tightened up and ensured that Clare entered a lot of cul de sacs. According to my tally, Clare scored five points in the second half and about three of them came in the closing stages when the deal was more or less closed. Conversely, Kerry scored ten points in that half.
There is no denying that this was a poor Kerry display, especially in that first half. Clare must of course take a lot of the credit for that but ,sadly, the reality is that we are now apparently in a very impoverished state. Accordingly, one cannot be too critical of management, if indeed one can be critical of them at all. It would appear that they are playing with a very poor hand.
Brian Kelly made one mistake in the second half when he came out to contest a high ball he should not have and the ball just flew wide of an empty net. Could have been catastrophic. Only a curmudgeon like myself would point point that error because, overall, he was magnificent, the best display from a Kerry goalie for a long time. His fielding of the high ball under pressure was remarkable, reminiscent of his mentor, Diarmuid Murphy.
The full back was satisfactory all through, especially in the seconds half. Marc gave a hint of what once was and Shane Enright suggested that maybe he is returning to form. That would be a huge bonus. However, I must single out Paul Murphy. This man is five foot nothing but he has a heart which is bursting out through his scalp. He impishly scored that early goal, when he followed his man up the danger area and towards the end of the game he soared up to catch a ball in the middle of three Clare lads. It appears, in the midst of all the gloom, we have found a right little devil here.
Fionn was the most consistent of the half backs. Killian improved in the second half, while Peter Crowley did not seem to be involved very much, not that his opponent achieved a whole lot either.
Midfield was a problem all through. David Moran was struggling and he played with a heavily bandaged knee. Fitness/injury problems here, I fear. Anthony was not able for Garry Brennan. He received a yellow card in the second half and, with reckless naivety, he put in a clumsy challenge shortly after wards and deservedly got his marching orders. Must work harder, Anthony. Aiden O'Mahony came on for David Moran, seemingly at midfield. Was that a figment of my imagination or an exercise in lunacy by management. Aiden O'Mahony an inter county midfielder, especially in the twilight of his career?
As I stated, midfield was a problem but an even bigger problem was at wing forward. We got no return here. Darren did not raise a gallop. Mickey Geaney, in spite of scoring a point, seemed to be totally out of his depth. On one occasion in the second half a colleague punted a lovely pass ahead of him to run onto and in spite of having a head start of five yards on his opponent he failed to win the ball. Unforgivable.
Bryan Sheehan has been a divisive character on this forum. Even, in his darkest days I have never wavered in my admiration of him. He was heroic today, alternating between the forty and midfield. Kicked three from play, one from a free and his fielding surpassed any other player on the field.
Declan played with a knee heavily bandaged and had a reasonable game. Not surprisingly, he finds it much more difficult to get away from an opponent these days and also , in that second half, he wandered too far out field. He was however very strong on the ball and won some important possession in that half but he has only two weeks to lift his fitness. It maybe later in the year before we see an approximation of the Declan we once revered.
Our two corner boys, Stephen O'Brien and Paul Geaney, glittered even when little else was happening for us. Paul Geaney kicked six from play, a truly noble contribution. If this man has an injury free year he may well realise the potential at senior inter county level he has thus far displayed for UCC and Dingle. Assuming he was not injured ,I could not fathom the substitution of Stephen O'Brien. He was a torment for the opposition from the word go. He is as plucky as Paul Murphy is at the other end and his first instinct is to take on his man and hare towards goal. Some day, fortune will smile on him and he will reap on the scoreboard what his ceaseless endeavour deserves. He scored two points today.
KD looked in fair shape when he came on and did some good things. BJK kicked a point. Neither Doncha or Jonathan made an impression when they came on. Doncha looked miles off the pace of the game.
In spite of Cork's close call, they should be strong favourites to win the final. That is a topic for another day.

Crowley at 6 is a no brainer for me, it's his best position IMO and more importantly he is the best we have that is suited to the Kerry #6. It isn't, but if this was any professional team sport, Anthony Maher would be sent to the 2nd team/reserves and told to earn his place back. Given he's already struggling for form, it was a pretty selfish thing for him to do in getting himself sent off, he's turned into a poor player and is now a liability. Start Sheehan at midfield with Moran, if Moran isn't fit than start Buckley. I said a couple of years ago that Donaghy needed a kick in the backside via being dropped, Jack was slow to do so and it hurt us; Maher needs the same now, I only hope Eamon doesn't make the same mistake Jack did. On a bright note it is encouraging to see some of the newer faces doing well. Murphy and Kelly, along with Geaney and O'Brien look well able for championship football, and gives us great hope going forward.
