I think in ways this is a very exciting year for us Kerry fans. Mainly because we haven't a clue how things will pan out given the level of change in the panel. You would anticipate that it will end before September, but given the excellent management that is in place, this Kerry team will achieve their potential (Whatever that is). That is all we can realistically expect and anticipate. Looking forward to next Sunday already. It will be interesting, bring it on. Read more: kerrygaa.proboards.com/post/160231/edit#ixzz34pvn5akOSorry but I have very little confidence in this management team. I think that's harsh given how close they got last year and a key tactic of Sherwood put in for McMenamin showed forward thinking and key in-game planning. The fact that Sherwood didn't focus on the plan, possibly influenced by others was outside Eamonn's control. Their league form and performances have been much improved from 2013, the Cork game aside. The team is on massive transition and although likewise in Cork, Cork are better fit for purpose, with more senior credible 21s emerging. We have also had a pretty severe run of injuries. With the squad available I'd be interested in a management team you would have confidence in Brigid. I'm not saying they are not open for constructive criticism, they need to be, but Eamonn's recent playing and management experience and his cool personality are key attributes for a modern senior manager, his youth and association with O'Neill I believe pay dividends, if we can get the player quality to the minimum bar required to challenge for Sam. I think we would concur that the current available squad is not good enough to win an All Ireland, from evidence to date. It would be great to be surprised and proved wrong. Eamonn's college team won the All Ireland last year. I know from past posts a lot of people are jury out on O'Neill as well, I think that's reasonable also. All i have to go on was watching him prepare the team against Westmeath in this year's league match and it was impressive, years ahead of what Westmeath were doing. Patience is needed I think until we are good enough. Positively the minors are looking very encouraging and I know that is no guarantee of even one senior but it is looks the best minor team for some time. On Brian Maguire, I think he showed great commitment when warming benches continuously and giving his best every time he got in, even though he never first choice. Best of luck to him in his new life in US

Reading between the lines, E Fitz understand's that McGuire had no choice and most people would have to accept a full time job. With lads going away for the Summer, it's a bit different as you say. They joined the squad and some of them went away to Portugal and now are quitting a few weeks before the c/ship starts for Kerry. By joining the squad and not committing, they've denied other lads the chance. You can't be too critical of amateurs but E Fitz has to be fairly disappointed and I can't see them being invited back to the squad. The other side of this is that these lads are going to 3rd level and there's only so mcuh they can expect from their parents. Maybe they have failed to get Summer work here and had no choice but to head for the States. It's not an easy one to be passing judgement from outside. I think the fact that there was a message wishing Brian well on the official site and the fact that Eamonn mentions that the crowd came back to him 3 times, indicates that McGuire is in a very different boat to the other lads so to speak. Also its just possible that maybe in a year or two he might be back in Ireland? My worry is that as he's heading to Kentucky he's unlikely to be even playing any sort of football. I wouldnt be too harsh on the lads but what's worrying for me is the underlying signal it sends. If the lads thought there was a good chance of a an All-Ireland medal (never mind a Munster medal) even if it was as only a panel member, would they be heading to the US? Cox got 3 appearances in the league, Culhane got 2 while Walsh got an appearance in last year's league and I think 2 of them lined out with the juniors previously so while they might be down the pecking order it's not as if they are miles down. Even compared to last season with Tomas, Paul and Eoin retired and Colm out, they have in a sense moved up that far in the pecking order. The thing is for these lads is that even if Kerry don't win the All-Ireland this year, they would at the least have had a summer of Championship level training to bring their game on further. In 2-3 years the panel could look very different and the lads could be a lot more central to things. Even still depending on how the season goes with injuries and who we might end up playing (especially in the qualifiers) it's not beyond the possibility that some of them might have got game time. Lads have always had to make sacrifices to play for Kerry sometimes with very little reward or in some cases with no reward. What does it mean if some of the most promising footballers in the county are not willing to make those sacrifices? Does anyone remember any other Kerry players ever doing the summer in the US thing? [Besides Paul and he didnt exactly have a whole pile of choice in the matter] I wouldnt begrudge these lads one bit. They are young, they may aswell get it out of their systems now. Plenty milage left in most of these fellas. If anything the summer away will make them even hungrier to get stuck in when they return for the winter. It can't be easy on young lads either making these decisions; but given todays economic climate - the promise of some sunshine and a few pound in their pockets is hard to turn down.

I think E Fitz has been excellent. He set his team up perfectly v Cork last year and no one did a better job IMO, at identifying Dublin's weaknesses. He targeted goals and got them and nullified Cluxton - was very unlucky to come up short.
The loss of Gooch and Tomas cannot be over-estimated and probably takes Sam out of reach this year but you never know and the transition is coming along nicely. Fitzy simply doesn't have a converyor of talent coming through from underage but that's about to change and Kerry will have an outstading young team in 2/3 years. Keep the faith.

I cant understand why Kerry are continuing the naming of the team on a Tuesday night.
They have closed the doors to training so "spies" cant get a look and see what they are doing, yet they give their opponents 5 days notice of what the starting team is.

It can be viewed as a positive statement and a declaration of strength. This is our team and get on with it.

The kerry management and panel came within inches of beating the now unbeatable dubs last August. For that, they deserve immense credit, a team shorn of many of it's strong characters and those left operating at a level or two below their prime. Eamon and co are really on a hiding to nothing, we don't have a deep panel of players. An injury to Dublin's best forward and one of their emerging stars has barely been noticed. The artillery on the bench is frighteningly powerful. An injury to our best forward and one of our emerging stars we are looking around for someone to pick up the reins but the bench is quite threadbare. Before people rush to criticise, look at the players available.
Really looking forward to hearing the team being named. Not used to the summer starting so late for us. Wonder when was the last time that we had such a late start to the championship?
