Team looks okay, but the subs bench looks very lopsided with 6 forwards and just 2 defenders

looking forward to how the full forward line works.. be fan of all 3 of them.. cant say i would place o se at CHB as i feel he will be caught out here, hoping he wont be. felt that CHB was our downfall last year as morley kept being dragged out of position , hoping the same wont happen again

Team looks okay, but the subs bench looks very lopsided with 6 forwards and just 2 defenders We seem to have a habit of doing this! Jack was very much guilty of it when in charge of the seniors, which hindered our depth in defence once O Sullivan and McCarthy and Griffin etc retired.

Will this game be an all ticket affair again??? According to the announcer in Killarney, you buy them from the Munster Council ticket van on the night. So I'd be getting there early.

Paddy Powers have both sides at even money. Brian O'Driscoll and Cathal Vaughan are both major injury doubts for us though so that would tip the balance significantly I think. Tipp are favourites for Munster and the Dubs are raging hot favourites for the AI.
I remember that midfielder from Kilcummin doing the world of damage last year, otherwise I wouldn't know an awful lot about the Kerry side.

How many of that panel are underage again next year? It seems there are a lot of lads that have at least another year u-21?

We're due a win after losing 2 tight games the last 2 years, games we could've/should've won. A fine dry night in Tralee tomorrow will hopefully draw large support for the team.

Kerry lacking players with senior experience for Tralee clash with Cork
IRISH EXAMINER Tuesday, March 11, 2014
By Denis Hurley
While it is a side lacking in any senior experience, there are still some familiar surnames in the Kerry side to play Cork in the Cadbury Munster U21FC quarter-final in Austin Stack Park tomorrow night (7.30pm).
Pádraig Ó Sé at centre-back is the son of the late Páidí while Adrian Spillane, who lines out at number 12, is Tom Spillane’s son. In addition, sub Niall Sheehy is a grandson of Niall Sheehy, an All-Ireland winner in 1959 and ’62.
With an agreement in place between U21 manager Darragh Ó Sé and his senior counterpart Eamonn Fitzmaurice, no member of the Kingdom side has played at senior before.
Ó Sé, goalkeeper Shane Murphy, Tadhg Morley, Shaun Keane and Kieran Murphy all played in the defeat to Cork at the same stage last year. Keane, Spillane, Jack McGuire and Thomas Hickey all won Sigerson Cup medals with UCC last month.
Cork named their side on Friday, but have two big injury worries. Cathal Vaughan, who is named at corner-forward, is rated doubtful and should he fail to be passe fit, then Alan Cadogan could take his place.
Wing-back Brian O’Driscoll, who featured in the Allianz Football League Division 1 wins over Kildare and Westmeath, is also struggling with a hamstring complaint.
The Mayo side to play Roscommon in the opening round of the Connacht championship (7.30pm, Elverys MacHale Park) features three of last year’s All-Ireland minor-winning side.
Stephen Coen is selected at centre-back by manager Niall Heffernan with Diarmuid O’Connor at midfield while Michael Plunkett plays centre-forward.
Aidan Butler, Adam Gallagher, James Shaughnessy and Conor O’Shea are all survivors from the side which lost to Galway last year. © Irish Examiner Ltd. All rights reserved

Tipp are motoring well now, played Donegal and Galway in recent weeks and beat both comfortably enough. Michael Quinlivan at full forward poses a huge threat, improved no end since minor. On top of that Colin o Riordan at midfield is a powerhouse, add in Stephen o Brien, the two McGraths, Ian Fahey and John Meagher and its the making of a fine team. Alot of work has gone into this team this year and they will be aiming to win Munster and hopefully beyond.

they seem to have the upper hand on us in underage the last few years which is a worry for the future. then again Cork are always strong at underage.

The non existence of a half forward line I feel cost us dear,, lack of movement all over the pitch . I lost count of how many time we were beaten down the endline.. Could have beaten by away more .. Only positives I felt wer the performances of Tom hickey and to a lesser extent James crean

Weeshie kept mentioning the overuse of the high ball into the forward line which didn't work.

I think Kerry Management might have thought that the Cork full back line were weak. They were last year but were way better this year. They had Sigerson and Cork Seniors back there.

Must say when Vaughan was out I really thought Kerry would win. Cork had new Management this year but they seemed to bring on great subs. I think Kerry may not have had the same quality on the bench.

Stayed in it for long enough but always hanging on really. Cork were faster, stronger and quicker to the breaking ball. The wore us down in the end. Dan McEoin murdered us first half, though he let us off the hook a few times from placed balls.

Made it down tonight to watch this game. A lovely drive down to Kerry it was, looking forward to a decent affair. Kerry did well to be ahead at half time however even by then the senses were pointing towards a Cork win. Cork looked a lot bigger physically than the Kerry lads. Around the middle of the field in particular. Cork totally dominated this area in the second half and Kerry still persisted to hit the ball into the same areas where Cork players were sweeping up breaks. Must be said Corks subs were very good and made an impact. The Kerry subs offered little or no impact to the game at all. Its hard to know what to take from the game. Right now I cant see any of the players on show making an impact at senior level this season but i would only love to be wrong on that one

Another night of frustration watching Kerry teams.
It looked from the start that Cork were just bigger, stronger and faster than the Kerry players. In the first half Cork missed a lot of handy ones in the first half and the two goals kept Kerry in it. Corks greater physicality and fitness came to the fore in the last ten minutes when they just ran through Kerry time after time. I agree with the poster who said Cork had options off the bench and Kerry didn't.
A feature of the first half, which continued into the second half was the very poor kick passing and link up play displayed by Kerry. As a player Darragh O Se was renowned for his accurate kick passing into the forwards. There was little evidence to show he had spent any amount of time getting his Kerry players to do the same. Our half forward line never provided an outlet between attack and defence and were well outplayed all through. Another area of concern was the kickouts, it was just a case of kicking it high into the middle of the field every time, despite the fact Cork totally dominated that area, the kickout "strategy" continued until the final minute.
Hopefully the experience will stand to some of the younger players like Crowley, Horan, Keane, Spillane and others who are still eligible next year. Thomas Hickey was Kerrys best player but he is probably a bit light for the seniors. Padraig O Se showed good positional sense and cleaned up a lot of ball but made too many mistakes on it. James Crean did ok in the first half and kicked his frees. Other than that you couldn't really mention other Kerry players.

I don't understand how the under 21 club champions had no representation yesterday. Their best players were savage- who would have provided the link between defence and attack- and their midfield of john c o Connor and Sean Walsh who both lorded it in the county final, john c especially.
How neither midfielder got a trial is baffling as is leaving savage on the bench.
The substitutions yesterday were awful- they were just completely like for like and no effort was made to improve the ball going in- foran and savage should have been on (I know foran didn't make the bench). What is the point in bringing in Conor keane and lofting high balls into him?
