Its about Time we started looking at possible line ups for the Kerry U21 Team of 2014. Remember the aul' saying class is permanent, form is temporary. --->My Team would be as of follows: •(1) Shane Murphy (Kilcummin) •(2) Michael O' Connor (Derrynane) •(3) Cathal Ó Lúing (An Ghaeltacht) •(4) Cillian Fitzgerald (Dr.Crokes) •(5) Pádraig Óg Ó Sé (An Ghaeltacht) •(6) Tadgh Morley (Templenoe) •(7) Ronan Murphy (Beaufort) •(8) Shaun Keane (Legion) •(9) Kieran Murphy (Kilcummin) •(10) Jeff O' Donoghue (Glenflesk) •(11) Gary O' Leary (Kilcummin) •(12) Pádraig Boyle (Ballyduff) •(13) Niall Sheehy (John Mitchells) •(14) Ciarán Keating (Skellig Rangers) •(15) Jack Savage (Kerins O' Rahillys)
Strong team but it will be difficult to cope with that Tipperary minor team from 2011. A bit of luck in the draw and some good football might see us through, the draw is being made on Thursday November 7th.

Tipperary have recruited Pat Flanagan in their efforts to win the All Ireland next year- just shows how serious they are about it!

Kerry should be relatively strong this year. It will be very disappointing to end up with just one game for the second year in a row. It would mean a long time training for just one game!

Ciaran Deane of John Mitchels is surely worth his place. If Darragh has 4 or 5 better half backs than Ciaran Deane Kerry will win the All Ireland in 2014.

A bit of luck in the draw and some good football might see us through, the draw is being made on Thursday November 7th. 12 of this team started against Tipp in Thurles in 2011 and exited the championship with Tipp going on to win the All Ireland; some of those listed like Cillian Fitzgerald do not seem to be featuring with their clubs so hard to see why they would make it with the county team; I have not seen Niall Sheehy featuring with St Brendans in the county championship either and difficult to see Gary O'Leary making the team. Conor Keane featured in the game against Cork last year so surely will be on the starting 15 this year; the Crowley twins from Templenoe should be contenders as will Adrian Spillane; add in the likes of Cillian Fitzgerald ( Churchill), Adam Barry, Kevin McCarthy & Pat O'Connor ( Dingle) and we should be competitive- not sure what Cork will be like but they have not been prominent in minor in Munster over past 3 years so Tipp look the team to beat again.

Definitely agree regarding the Crowleys and Adrian Spillane. I think Teddy Doyle is overage but if not I'd have a look at him as well (I'm not Templenoe, before anyone asks, nor do I know them or their families personally). I thought John C O'Connor was outstanding in the club U21 final for Strand Rd. Not sure if Padraig Boyle is as good as he was at football but his form has definitely returned big time in hurling; I'd also have a look at former dual minor player Daniel Collins. Cillian Fitzgerald is an absolutely class act, for my money he's actually stickier than Fionn, but I haven't seen hm play for Crokes in quite a while; don't know why. Personally I'd be playing Ronan Murphy at 6 and Morley at 7; both are excellent. The named full back line are very skillful but I'd like a bit more physicality there; I'd be very tempted to follow on from the Kerry minors and play Gavin Crowley on the square. I also think that Pat O'Connor, although first year at this grade, can really push for a corner-back slot. Cork have actually been very decent at minor in recent times but fell into the fixtures/back-door trap (a brutally unfair and awful system in my opinion that is not followed by any other province). There is a lot of talk about the very impressive Brian Hurley but personally I consider Brian O'Driscoll to be arguably the best player in Munster at his age; exactly what on earth he was doing at corner-back for Cork last year is utterly beyond me. I'm told that a lot of the Tipp lads that won the All Ireland are more focussed on hurling now; I'd be more afraid of Cork. I actually thought Kerry did fantastic preparatory work last year and did really well to get within a point of a team that went on to contest the All Ireland Final. I still think that Cork will justifiably head to Tralee as favourites (of course my heart says different) but Kerry could well pull this one off - a lot will defend on clinical execution of chances. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and pace of last year's game, hoping for a repeat of that with a different result!

I think the team and panel should look something like this next year.
Shane Murphy Cathal O Luing Gavin Crowley Patrick O Connor Padraig O Sé Ronan Murphy Tadgh Morley Shaun Keane Kieran Murphy Greg Horan Jeff O Donoghue Adrian Spillane Thomas Hickey Ciaran Keating Conor Keane
Subs: Stephen Cahillane Michael O' Connor Brian Crowley Jack Savage Padraig Boyle Matthew Flaherty David Foran Gary O Sullivan Gavin O Shea Niall Sheehy
Ive probably forgot some fellas there but i think that should be the general make up of the panel anyway.

Keane ahead of Savage-I take it that you didnt see the minors play this year Sheehy ad Cillian Fitzgerald from Churchill are also better than Keane
Conor Jordan will make the panel-Horan will be very lucky to start

Keane would be more suited to the corner than Savage though wouldnt he? I thought Greg horan was Stacks best performer in county final(thats not saying a lot but did very well for a minor)Id rate Savage a lot as a centre forward it may just be a year too early for him to go in there next year.Just my opinion on it.
I feel we might be a bit light on natural backs next year, ezpecially in the full back line..not sure are there any other options other than those I have named!

I see Ronan Murphy on every team, this is a guy who refused to play with his club. Correct me if I'm wrong but any young fella that refuses to represent his club surely can not be picked to represent his county.

Are any of the U21s training with the seniors in the lead up to the McGrath Cup or are they concentrating on U21 training only? The likes of Kieran Murphy, Thomas Hickey, Tadhg Morley and Padraig O Sé would be options.

Poor NK representation but I suppose that is a random stat, who knows what areas will supply the talent, if we did we'd have solved The Kerry Ingredient enigma and then we'd win every AI and which wouldn't be such a bad thing, well for some anyway?

If padraig Ogs form is anything like the way he played in the sergison for Tralee , doubt he will make the team .. Miles off his man , showed no interest nd was hauled off shortly after half time

Kerry have not been doing well in recent challenge games losing the last 3; the most recent game was against Galway last Thursday night where we lost by 8/9 points; Galway were minus the GMIT players and Kerry minus the UCC guys due to the Sigerson Cup. Apparently we have refused to release our players for UCC this week end for the Sigerson- Shaun Keane, Thomas Hickey and Jack McGuire will all be absent when UCC take on Maynooth even though none would probably be on the starting XV.

Gotta feel Sorry for them lads who have put in the work all year to get there and now be told they're missing the best part. I would think its more so to do with not going beering afterwards as it is a weekend away for a bunch of college students. They can't be leaving them enjoy themselves is the idea i'm getting off that cause the standard of football at Maynooth is going to be the highest until the Championship kicks off..

Cork beat Kildare by a point in a challenge last week. Good game I heard, Cork conceded 4 goals. Neither side had their senior players available to them.

If that is true then it's an absolutely stupid and unnecessary decision. The game with Cork is still over 3 weeks away. Shaun Keane and Hickey would more than likely have got a run in ultra competitive games which would have done them the power of good.
