team selection is typical jack o connor . Bring on carey to win the game and I am the hero It's a 20 man game now, at minor and senior level. And if it ain't broke, then don't try and fix it; bring Carey off the bench has worked up until now. Eamon's doing the same thing with Declan O Sullivan, and maybe Darren.

Best of luck to our senior and to our minor team, management and everybody else involved. Safe travel to all making the long trek tomorrow and pleasant viewing to all that will have to sit this one out. I'm sure Kerry will make it a good game and I hope Sam will come back to the kingdom on Monday when the team are coming back. It's been another wonderful year and it's not over yet.

Best of luck to our minors tomorrow. From cusack park day 1 they've impressed and please god they'll play like they can tomorrow and I've no doubt that we're in with a great shout.
We unearthed some great talents on this team in every position. I can't wait to see Kearney in full forward. He's a big strong man and with Tomas nd Killian either side if we get the ball In, and it's good ball. We will win. Big games needed from burns and flaherty also and I've no doubt they will produce. Barry Sullivan nd Mark midfield can give us a massive foothold in this game, and I feel Sullivan's leadership will prove massive tomorrow. Coffey has a big task tomorrow matching up with mcbrearty but he is more than capable in causing as many problems to his man as to what his man will hope to cause to him. The full back line and keeper and have been outstanding all year. Briain nd tom sull have massive games in them yet along with the steady head of Dan donoghue. Shane Ryan more of the same please, you have been the most exciting prospect in kerry for the past 2 years, let's give it one last go,
Win or lose we must be proud of this team, they have shown that the future is far from bleak. Kerry by 5.

Well done to the minors, when the pressure came on they showed what quality footballers they are by calming the storm and driving on to victory. 20 years is a long wait for a minor title and the wait is finally over. Definitely huge potential in this bunch of lads for future times.

Delighted for this bunch of youngsters and huge congratulations to them and the management team. The manner of the victory was in keeping with the style, guts, tenacity and skill that this bunch have displayed all year. When the questions were asked they always came up with answers.

Fantastic win and great to finally bridge the gap of 20 years, congrats to all involved and to that wily old dog for the long road Jack O'Connor who has the know-how and the craftiness to help bring home the Tom Markham cup with this very talented bunch of players. While it been a long time coming, credit must also go to those who recognised that we needed proper structures in place to invest and capitalise on the serious talent coming through this county and also to those who have nurtured this particular group through the various development squads.

Great stuff by the minors - this is the 7th time Kerry have won the minor and senior in the same year. The other years were
1980 1975 1962 1946 1932 1931

Congratulations to our minors on a magnificent achievement! No less a giant of the game than Tomas O'Sé has stated 'the minor medal is a hard medal to win' so it has to be enjoyed in it's own right. We have waited a long time for this one but these boys sealed the deal. The future is bright, the future is green and gold once more.

which players from the team look like they can make the step up to Senior in the next year or two? The notion of stepping straight out of minor into senior intercounty football is pretty much dead unless the player is towards the freak end of the scale. These lads need time to mature physically into men so you are looking more in the order of 3-5 years. Just look at the height and weight figures in the players profiles of the minors versus the seniors on the main site for evidence of the difference.

I think the big effect should be felt at under 21 fairly quickly given the men we now have involved. I often think our minor win of 94 was the genesis for the under 21 success to follow - we had young fellas with a winners attitude. I'm expecting a few young fellas to walk in with their heads up to the under 21 grade expecting to win more, just the attitude Darragh will love. This win will breed confidence and we have the men in charge to exploit it!

Agree with Kingdomson - stepping from minor straight to senior is a huge ask. Transitioning any minor to senior even over time is a task in itself and Sigerson (for many) and u21 are the stepping stones. Correct me if I am wrong but is this the first team that has come through the development squad system from u14 onwards? I know the team has the Pobail Scoil backbone and have long been considered a strong bunch but we had the Colaiste Na Sceilig Hogan winning team backbone an earlier minor team without final success - is this a result of the systematic work over four or more years - how many of this team came through this system?

which players from the team look like they can make the step up to Senior in the next year or two? Michael Burns is going to be a big player for us, especially since we don't have many natural wing forwards in our squad at the moment.

I think Shane Ryan has a great future ahead of him . If he can avoid injury and if he keeps going the way he is he will be playing with the Seniors in 2 or 3 years . He is going to be better than Kelly or Kealy . Brian Begley looks like a good prospect give him a couple of years at u21 level . Tom O'Sullivan had a solid year at corner back . Barry O'Sullivan and Mark O'Connor look like good prospects . Mark is underage again next year . A cousin of Tommy Doyle . Matthew Flaherty looks like a young Donnacha Walsh . Killian Spillane and Michael Burns should make it . If you could get 5 or 6 of that team you would be doing well . Not many of them underage next year . It will be almost a whole new team .

Eoin O Brien - sub goalie for Munster Final also under next year plus a few others that were in and out of the group this year particularly for training games. Aren't we a greedy bunch, just won the first for 20 years and already plotting a double, hell why not repeat the glory of three in a row from the 1930's. Yes you are right - one at a time and let's enjoy this one for a while before Turing out thoughts to the 2015 squad.

Another old chestnut that the GAA will not tackle in a meaningful manner.

And plenty of them Seamo. These poor lads were on the go since January between County League and Championship, studying, training and the Leaving Cert, and Sunday they got their due rewards.
What a great group of lads they have been, couldn't be happier for them. In their last four games against Cork, Kildare, Mayo and Donegal, they have been ran close in the closing stages by each of these teams and have reacted and kicked on. They've shown great character all year and won all their games by at least 4 points.
Shane Ryan was outstanding yesterday as he has been for the last two years. When backs were against the walls on Sunday he made two massive saves, and kept us in control. I know we shouldn't be surprised as he has been doing it all year. The Full back line were solid as they have been all year. I felt O Beaglaoich was outstanding yesterday, he went on McBrearty after he kicked two points and took him out of the game and went on plenty of his runs up the field. Himself and Tom Sullivan remind me of young Marc O Se's. Tight and strong at the back but every bit as good going forward and both outstanding footballers. Dan Donoghue found his place in the corner the passed few games and made it his own. Was in and out of the team at the start of the year, but made the corner back position his own and rarely put a foot out of place.
Half back who had been strong since the Munster Final after a rocky start to the year were solid. Brian Sugrue who had a poor Munster final made up for it the last few games, solid and kept his man quiet. Andrew Barry what a player this guy is minor again next year, big and strong and minds the house, did a fantastic job on Sunday. Coffey had probably his worst game all year. Jack was quick to take him off but he wasnt going well. A big reason to why we beat Mayo, as when things werent going right in the Forwards, he was carrying ball and marked their talisman Akrim out of the game. Better days ahead for this guy.
What can you say about the two guys at midfield. Outstanding? Brilliant? Unbeleivable? There isn't enough superlatives and again on Sunday they were dominant. Barry Sullivan is a young Dara O Se mark my words. A natural leader and has steadied the ship all year when things werent going as planned. Chipped in with two massive points yesterday also. O Connor caught some massive balls yesterday, as he has been doing all year with club, school and County. Will be one of the main players on this team next year as he has been already this year.
Flaherty along with O Sullivan has been the heart and soul of this team. One of the smallest and lightest fellas on the team but makes up for it with a massive heart, engine and great football skills. Was as industrious as ever. Rayel played the perfect link man role as he has been when called upon all year providing great ball into our inside line. Came under alot of pressure from Carey all year but has kept him out of the team on most occasions and made his case in doing so with his football. Burns is one of these guys that looks primed for Senior in the next few years. Was massive on Sunday after an awful semi final by his own standards. Kicked 3 points from play. Was my man of the match followed closely by O Beaglaoich. Great performance by a great player, made for the big stage.
Tomas had his worst game to date, but took his point well. He's been vital to us all year. Sunday was the only game he didnt get a goal in, in which he started. He has been a goal machine all year, tormenting defences with his pace and skill. Hope he is ok after his fall on the stage in Killarney last night, haha. Kearney one of the unluckiest fellas all year, has been a super sub and probably would have started any other year at minor. O Sullivan and O Connor, have been outstanding but Kearney along with them, has also been at midfield. Has caught some massive ball at midfield all year. Tactic of him at the edge of the square didnt seem to work with him being called off at half time. But I felt it took some of the heat off our other lads especially Killian as Donegal were worried about him at the edge of the square was also being pulled and dragged every time the ball was kicked into him. Killian... best minor in the Country as according to his eccentric uncle. To be fair to him, he has lived up to this billing in my opinion, one of our best players all year. He was outstanding on Sunday, they couldnt get the ball off of him, even when he carried it too long. Kicking balls all year off the left and right with ease. Id say the break down of his 40+ points all year wouldnt be too far off 50/50 off left and right boots. A gem of a player on a great team.
Jordi Kiely was outstanding when he was introduced, kicked 2 great points. He came on like a man with a point to prove after being dropped and boy did he prove it. Has been strong all year. And scored one of the best/cheekiest goals all year at any level with the chip below in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in the Munster Final. Carey, the supersub was that once again, kicked two great points. Has provided a massive boost to the team in every game he has played and didnt fail to impress on Sunday once again. Our other three subs were solid, as they have been all year with their limited enough playing time, Wharton, O Sullivan and Parker but have provided us with fresh legs and hard work in every game theyve played.
A quick word of sympathy for Bambo, who I felt would have made a massive contribution all year. God knows what we would have beaten teams by if he was playing also. Think he was on the extended panel for Sunday so should still pick up his medals but just a pity he didnt get to contribute like he could have.
On the line, for not the first time this year they have been brilliant. Maybe it was a tactic to keep Carey and Kiely on the bench to provide some well needed pace, strength and scoring from the bench. They were quick to make changes as they have been all year, and this has boded well with the team and panel. As if you werent going well there was lads just as good ready and willing off the bench. What a year for Jack, his selectors and trainers and whole backroom staff. Have put in a huge amount of sacrifice along with the players, training 3 sometimes 4 times a week between football and gym sessions.
This one was sweet lads, as sweet as the Seniors. 20 years was too long. Immensely proud of this group and the future is very bright and id expect 6 or 7 of these lads to make the transition into the Senior set up in the next few years.
