Not as far as I know. Maybe EF requested to keep him off the panel with the Dublin game coming up.

So what you are saying is you thing Eamonn fitzmaurice may have requested he missed the Sigerson weekend for a league game with Dublin? Pretty sure I've heard it all from you now Seoirse. The Sigerson is the top priority of all college players at the moment, coming well before any worries about National League games.

The Sigerson is the top priority of all college players at the moment, coming well before any worries about National League games. It depends on what the plan for the season is. If a league medal is something that is in the planning then Paul Geaney surely has to feature in those plans. Maybe they want to experiment more with certain forwards combinations before the championship starts. Sigerson is important for players but I doubt they would swap a Sigerson medal for a championship medal. I'm not sure why Paul Geaney wasn't named but I do know Billy Morgan would be confident of winning even without Paul Geaney. Maybe Paul did get injured during training or maybe he doesn't feel fit or maybe they want to prevent a burn out or maybe he is focusing on his studies. I don't know, but resting him for a league game doesn't seem too far fetched at all to me.

www.sportsfile.com/blog/2015/02/as-i-see-it-paul-geaney/This is how much winning a Sigerson means. Geaney was injured today, hopefully nothing serious and may be able to feature some bit tomorrow. The form of Cox and Hickey seems to be very encouraging along with the Kerry full back line also.

I'm not saying that a Sigerson medal isn't important, of course it is. Demands on college players are such that club, college and county all want a piece of them. Players might want to play, but managers don't always want them too. I'm glad that wasn't the case though I hope is not too seriously injured.

Did Paul Geaney start, just saw the extra time. He looked far from fit and was probably the difference between winning and losing? The extra time periods looked overly defensive!

Cox was good in the 1st half, but didn't get much of a look in after that. That miss at the end of normal time will haunt him. One he would normally slot over 9 times out of 10.
Cruel that his and Luke Connolly's misses proved so crucial, as those 2 did more than most do bring them this far.
Some goal by David Culhane in extra time to put UCC ahead.
Thought Michael Quinn from Longford was the difference between the teams.
He won an amount of ball, and drove DCU forward time and again.
Think i'm right in saying he's the same fella who played AFL for the Essendon Bombers a few years ago.
Of course Colm Begley is another ex AFL man.
Not the most traditional of career paths, going from the pro game to college football.
Impressive crowd on the sideline by the way. About 30 lads inside the line at all times. One of the UCC panel even put in a tackle at one stage near the end of 60 mins when a DCU player was moving up the wing. Luckily it will go down in the stats as a missed tackle, otherwise could have been a riot!

That miss is almost unforgivable- he had men in better positions, they had a 3 on 1 and decided to take the glory and completely fluffed it. You can't compare cinnollys miss as it was further out, much harder and he had gone off with an injury only to be brought back in specifically to take that free. UCC completely kicked that game away today

Will still be remembered though seeing as it was the last kick. Actually the young DCU goalkeeper's free to rescue it in normal time was from a similar range. Didn't fancy him to score it at all, but he nailed it.

DCU dethrone champions UCC on their own turf to clinch the Sigerson Cup
DCU 1-14
UCC 2-10
Fintan O’Toole reports from the Sigerson Cup final at the Mar*
CONOR MCGRAYNOR’S LATE point delivered Sigerson Cup glory for DCU this afternoon as they finally prevailed in a marathon decider against UCC at the Mar*.
Hosts UCC were left shattered by defeat after extra-time, with Luke Connolly’s difficult long-range free drifting wide at the death as they sought to draw level.
DCU prevailed narrowly to claim their third title in six years, and after a campaign where they’ve needed to show a resilient streak in their victories away to Jordanstown and St Mary’s, before they saw off UCD in a tough semi-final encounter yesterday.
It was a tense match this afternoon, with the teams tied at 0-5 apiece at half time in normal time. UCC, boosted by the pre-match inclusion of Paul Geaney in their attack, had forged a 0-5 to 0-3 lead through a couple of Conor Cox points, but Enda Smith and Eoin O’Connor brought DCU level with really good scores.
The first decisive breakthrough was made by DCU, when Donal Wrynn found the net in the 40th minute. He knocked home a Donie Smith delivery when he challenged goalkeeper Michael Martin, but UCC will be aggrieved that a similar incident in the first half saw a Sean Kiely goal for them disallowed.
UCC responded well to that concession with fine points from Connolly and Gary O’Sullivan. Yet DCU looked to have notched the insurance score courtesy of Conor Boyle four minutes later.
There was still time for a blaze of drama. Connolly swung in a high ball that impressive substitute Alan O’Donovan fisted to the net to give UCC a priceless lead in the 57th minute.
They had chances to kill the game then but were left to rue them as DCU rescued themselves when goalkeeper Tadhg Lowe came upfield to nervelessly nail a tricky free.
DCU, who had excellent displays from Mickey Quinn and Conor Moynagh, made a forceful break in extra-time to go 1-11 to 1-9 ahead at the midway mark of the additional period.
But UCC bounced back with David Culhane seizing the throw-in at the second half of extra-time, racing through the heart of the DCU rearguard and finishing confidently to the net. DCU drew level again before substitute Kevin Davis punched a point to send UCC back into the lead.
DCU’s strength in depth told as they powered to the finish line and engineered the openings for Donie Smith and McGraynor to land the vital points.
Scorers for DCU: Donal Wrynn 1-1, Conor McHugh (0-2, 1f), Tadhg Lowe (0-2f), Enda Smith and Eoin O’Connor 0-2 each, Steven O’Brien, Conor Boyle, Conor Daly, Conor McGraynor, Donie Smith 0-1 each.
Scorers for UCC: Alan O’Donovan 1-1, David Culhane 1-0, Conor Cox 0-3 (0-1f), Conor Dorman, Thomas Clancy, Shaun Keane, Luke Connolly (0-1 ’45), Gary O’Sullivan, Kevin Davis 0-1 each.

I though Paul Geaney was trying to do the work of three men... foraging, trying to catch kickouts, create opening and he couldn't be faulted.
No good reason for disallowing that UCC goal either in the first half... the keeper seemed to throw it into his own net.
Billy nearly evaporated when DCU moved the ball 5 yards forward for the equalizer at the end of normal time. Hard to see how he could make rationale calls when he is so riled up.
Cox is a wonderful striker of a ball. But Jesus Christ almighty what a howler at the end of normal time when UCC a point up. All he had to do was run through , look the keeper in the eye and punch it over the bar or lay it off for a goal ...he had two colleagues clean through. Overall, Cox didn't really impress today.
David Culhane from Ballylongford is a strappling man and game ball for anything it seems to me. His footpassing was wayward but he had the liathroidi to take the game by the scruff of the neck. He impressed me at any rate.
I though Paul Geaney wanted to kick that last free from his hands but Connolly fancied it. The grass looked very short and trying to kick off the ground looked difficult.
Over the course of the game DCU probably deserved it, just about, but UCC could and should have won it at the end of normal time.
