If the sponsorship started in '93 then 2007 would be the 15th year. The previous 14 winners are: Kerry 4 Meath 2 Galway 2 Tyrone 2 Armagh 1 Down 1 Derry 1 Dublin 1
I think the object of th exercise should be to pick the team that you think the experts will pick and not your own personal team.
Will need to think about it.

In a fair competition Declan O'Keeffe would probably edge the goalkeeper's spot but that'll obviously go to either J O'Leary or Cluxton.

As good as dec was he still isnt even the best keeper kerry have had in the last 15 years never mind all of ireland, Tough team to call, hard to see 2 people picking exact same 15.Kerry players with serious shouts for it would have to be Seamus,Dara,Gooch,Fitzy.Anyone else??

Glen Ryan was better than McGeeny in the last 15 years. The first team named is pretty good but I wouldn't have O Leary, O Connell or O Brien as they're retired too long. I'd give those positions to O Keeffe, Lynch and McCarthy. I'd nearly have Fallon in for Geraghty in the half forward line. Mickey Linden and Colin Corkery will have strong claims, no doubt Kerry will be screwed again.

I reckon you have been reading too much of the Dublin media Falvey if you think Geln Ryan has been better than McGeeney in the last 15 years ! Ryan in fairness was a fairly decent player, or a good honest pro as they would say in soccer lingo, but he would'nt lace McGeeney's boots !
I don't know about O' Keeffe, Lynch and Fallon, but McCarthy and especially Mickey Linden could be good calls !
Tried picking my own team there now and it is extremely difficult. Some very big calls to make. Seeing that Bank of Ireland is sponsoring it, I presume that the lions share of the team will be selected on championship perfromances alone ! This will probably rule out the likes of Joe Brolly who had some massive league campaigns with Derry in the 1990's, when they won the competion 4 times.
Moynihan, Dara and Fitz have to be dead certs for us, but after that it is hard to see us get any more spots from the crowd who are likely to select this team.

Cormac McAnnellan will have to get the full back spot in my opinion.

Cormac McAnnellan will have to get the full back spot in my opinion. I thought he only switched to full-back after the drawn Ulster final in 2003 meaning he only played 4 games as a full-back?

I suppose he won his all star at full back and the all ireland playing full back. But given the way the judges of these type of selections operate I'd be surprised if Cormac didnt get on the team and if he does it'll be at full back.

I would add to that list
Dooher I would take out Cormac as he only got a year or two of that period
John McDermott from Meath was super consistent
Michael Donnellan was vital to Galway Jayo?

Mcdermot should definitely be on the short list. As sould dooher. Personally I wouldnt have sherlock in.
I think, for me, the easiest line t pick is Mdfield, Darragh Se and Tohill.

Goalie is a real problem position. There have been no outstanding candidates. Cluxton and O'Leary were around for a few years and are probably the best of the bunch.
Was Larry tompkins still playing in the mid nineties. He would come into the reckoning as well as would the current meath manager colm coyle.
Michael Donnellan is a huge favourite of this committees and would probably squeeze in somewhere (instead of Mickey Linden?) but i don't think he was top, top class.
The team i think could be picked (not my personal team):
O'Leary Mike Mac Fay O'Connell
Moynihan McGeeney Geraghty
Dara Se Tohill
Giles Joyce Linden
Gooch Canavan Maurice
I have taken into account the importance each player had to its team winning championship games eg Galway would never have won 2 AI's without Joyce.

I was thinking along the same lines Seamus - consider that the selectors will be much the same journalists who pick the All Stars - Breheny, Jim O'Sullivan, Brian Carthy etc etc and you can start to write the team from there.
However, will O'Leary be there? He was one of the key factors to Dublin winning in '95, but was gone by '97 so he only played four years. Cluxton hasn't won an All Ireland with Dublin yet despite racking up the multi All Stars. Declan O'Keeffe was there from the beginning of the league in '95 to '03 and won two All Irelands. Diarmuid Murphy has also won two All Irelands and two leagues. Benny Tierney won't come into the mix, nor will either of the Tyrone / Galway keepers who have medals. I can't see Cormac Sullivan getting one either.....if they don't go for O'Leary, I reckon they might squeeze in Declan O'Keeffe, but that is an outside chance.
Midfield is the other key area I reckon, and I think Darragh may get short changed here. Kevin Walsh was the mainstay in Galway and has three All Stars I think. Even after they began to fade post 2001, he was still there and anybody watching the Galway v Donegal quarter final and replay in 2003 will remember Kevins incredible performances when the man was 34 I think. Another man who may give Darragh or Tohill the boot is John McDermott who was a fantastic central figure for Meath.
Up front I think you've five of the six, but do you think Stevie from Kileavy might slip in ahead of Gooch? Maybe not, but stranger things have happened.

i think Darragh o se is the first name they will have down. he is wdiely known as the top midfielder of his generation by pretty much all journalists you read. I am also not sure Martin O Connel will be in there. when did he retire?

you'd be very disappointed if seamus, daragh, maurice and colm werent dead certs on the team.
like everything else polictics will see that a truely great footballer like glen ryan wont get picked because he didnt play for one of the big time counties,i rate glen on a par with seamus moynihan.
then you will have the one wild card, crazy, bizare, sympathy selection what ever you want to call it that will see someone like tommy murphy picked ahead of jacko shea on the team of mellinium dispite jacko partnering micko connell on team of the centuary.

Martin O'Connell was player of the year in 96 and was the only player in the last 15 years to make team of the millenium. On that basis he'll definitely be there. I think the definites are Fay & O'Connell, Seamus Moynihan, McGeeney, paul Curran. The midfield will definitely be Dara and Tohill. Forwards wil definitely have Giles, Joyce, Fitzy, Canavan. So I only see 1 defensive up for grabs - contenders Stephen O'Brien as a token Cork man, Tony Scullion who has 3 all stars during the period, Ken Mortimer as the token Mayo man who has 2 all stars.
For the forwards there is 2 places up for grabs with the contenders being Gooch - 3 all stars, Steve McDonnell - 3 all stars, Michael Donnellan - 2 all stars, Ja Fallon - 2 all stars.

Darragh will get midfield alright. Cluxton for sure will be goalie. Sure hasn't he got a couple of all stars already for being a Dub.
Forwards will be Canavan, Joyce, Fitz, Giles, Linden and as an outside bet Brown (is it two all stars he has?)

........sympathy selection....... Declan Browne could be your man here ! The GAA would love to have him in, and it would be seen as a type of gesture to the weaker counties ! In fairness to him he would'nt leave the side down !

very hard to pick this, would be interesting for someone to list the players of the year for the last 15 years, some of the winners i can think off from the top of my head...
Star, he won't get on Tomas, i notice people aren't mentioning him much, he's been one of the top players in last 7-8 years, has to be in with a chance, and highly regarded Maurice, cert Gooch, has to be in with a chance. Stephen O' Neill also has to be in with a chance, injuries may cost him Seamus, a dead cert
Who else, I think McDonlad will make it from Mayo, has been there nearly all of those 15 years and is highly regarded also
