Isn't it weird how the presentation of Sam to Séamus in 2000 or his speech that followed is hardly ever talked about? I wonder is it because the presentation happened on the pitch without the buzz of a surrounding crowd?

For me, it has to be someone from the 'new' golden years of 1996 onwards. - Reached the semi-final 11 out of the last 12 years, reached the final 6 times (maybe 7), plus 1 replay.... and captured Sam 4 times. (...in the hunt for 5!) I've had the privilege of waking up on the morning of an All-Ireland, giddy with excitement for Kerry’s involvement, and itching for the trip to Croker, a whopping 7 times in the last 10 years. & there is no feeling like that buzz! From that, and all the other great Championship outings, one man, and one man alone stand out for me - Seamus Moynihan. A legend. Inspirational on many levels. (I have plenty photos of baby KerryNorth sitting/sleeping/drooling in Sam during the Golden years - but alas, I was too young to take it all in - so to have our own golden period, and our own golden boys is something I'm thankful for everyday) Ciarraí Abú good post kerryNorth,it is some record,11 semi finals in 12 seasons and 7 finals in 10 years,it truely is a new golden era.I think its only when you list the players that retired in the last 10 years and that the fact were still competitive that you can truely appreciate what were living through. This is fanstatic bunch of kerry footballers. as regards the buzz of 7 final in 10 years,i had a previlaged upbringing, kerry contested 15 finals,(including replay in'72) in my first 19 years on the planet winning 10 of them and roughly the same national leagues, what a buzz, what a stable diet of football,no wonder a man would be obsessed with the green and gold, more like a drug that never leaves the veins, always churning away in the blood flow.I tell ye,jaysas i cant fcuking wait for sunday week, till the green and gold and the blue run out onto the sacret sod in croker, the greatest buzz in the world, kerry v dublin late in the season in croker.

Agreed Joan, but at this stage, there have been so many people saying he was the most underrated of the Kerry Golden Years players that he's the most overrated underrated player of them all!!

i don't agree Joan, why do you say he doesn't get the respect? Frankly, my dear it's bs, when people talk about the Golden years team, John Egan is always mentioned as one of the greats, it's a myth that he doesn't get the credit, it's people like Paudie Lynch, Tim Kennelly, Charlie Nelligan, John O' Keefe, Sean Walsh, Ambrose that don't get the credit, all fantastic players with a stack full of All-Ireland medals between them

lostinmayo I could tell you that the amount of FOOTBALLERS not to mind so called kerry fans that have not a clue who Egan is would frighten you. Mention Bomber or spillane and its a whole other story. Too many greats in Kerry to name just the one but the question was all time fav.... Mine is Egan....

Egan & Moynihan would be my stand-outs.As a younger lad of course, Pat Spillane was always a thrill to watch, not just his play, but something about his face, his demeanor. And I couldnt help but like Paidi, even if he was a bollix!

Impossible to say.. From my standpoint their will always will only be one Horse. Saying that though the Bomber was unbelieveable but Jack O'Shea would be favoutie of the Golden Era.
Fitz was a class apart but my own personal view is that Seamus Moynihan was one of the top 5 GAA players of all time.
Stallworth performance on the field but a very humble and down to earth guy off the field.
I went to National League final in Limerick last year and Kerry were playing brutal in the first half. Moynihan gave an exhibition of football in the second half. Was a poor game but i m glad i paid the entrance fee to see his performance

1975 Munster Final. Dinny Allen had just taken Paidi for two points in the first 10 minutes of Paidis first munster final. Allen sugested to Paidi that he was about to be substituted. When Allen got up he had a different perspective on things. John Moloney was about 3 feet away. It would be a definite red card now

i'm sticking with maurice and i've highly enjoyed both of kerrys golden years throughly.
kerrys stats '75 to '86.12 seasons.
played in 10 all-ireland finals,
won 8.
won 11 munster championships.
play in 11 out of the 12 all-ireland semi finals.
won 3 national leagues,
won the double once,'84.
lost one all-ireland final by one kick of the ball.
kerrys stats '96 to '07 ,12 seasons.
will have played in eight finals, won 4,hopefully that will be 5,drew one.
won 9 munster championships.
played in 11 out of the 12 semi finals.
won 3 national leagues and one div.2 national league final.
won 3 doubles,'97'04'06.
lost 2 finals by one kick of the ball.
considering the competitive nature of the modern game and strong northern up rising in the last five years, the achievements of this present kerry team are massive, argueable right up there with older golden years team.

Seamus Moynihan gets it for me. A lesser man would have retired but he stuck it out. Also his attitude off the pitch and performances in interviews, a great ambassador for the county. Though i must say he gave me a fright often enough hand passing across the face of his own goal!!!!
