Legion o-07 Kerins O Rahillys 0-09 Game played in slippy conditions but generally poor fare on show. Legion competed well in midfield against a quiet Micheal Quirke. Took 15 minutes for the 1st score and there was only one score from play in the first half, although Legion's David Murphy did hit the inside of the post. Narries built up a four point lead at start of second half through BJW and the lively BJK. At this stage the funny / serious incident of the match occurred where the linesman disagreed with referee Peter Lyons decision, ran on to the field, pushed the ref, threw the flag at his feet then stormed off the field. Never seen that before! Sub James O'Donoghue brought life to the Legion attack and a 50m point from Jonathon Lyne reduced the deficit to two point but they were never able to close the gap.
Other games Kilcummin 0-03 Dingle 0-11 Austin Stacks 1-11 Ardfert 1-05 Rathmore 1-07 St. Michaels Foilmore 0-08

It wasn't his own linesman I presume was it?

Laune Rangers 1-20 Spa 3-08 If this had been a boxing match the ref would have stopped it such was Laune Rangers dominance throughout most of the game, yet Spa managed to claw back a 10 point deficit to get within 2 points late in the game before Rangers found their form again. Make Stam was best for a depleted Spa when he moved back around midfield. Mike Frank was imperious with the dead ball and Gerry Coffey at CB were standout for Rangers who looked very impressive going forward but a little fragile at the back.

was at the rangers spa game also...rangers did look very impressive going forward...young energetic team....could cause a few surprises...agree they look a little suspect at the back but Johnny Sheehan and Tony Lyons will solidify that when they are back...saw both carrying knocks yesterday on the line....also good to see Liam Hassett togged out yesterday - I thought he had retired from club football...spa looked poor with only stam and their wing forward showing up well - think the all ireland intermediate run has taken it's toll...

i was at the stacks ardfert match, the stacks tore ardfert apart in the first 15 minutes, played some lovely football at times and were really up for it,ardfert struggled to do anything in the first half and kicked some very bad wides, ardfert improved in the second half as the stacks seemed to ease up and if ardfert scored the penalty it would have made the last 15 minutes interesting

Was at a couple of games over the weekend...I believe spa could be suffering the start of a long hangover from last year....what seemed like a strong together unit last year is beginning to look a bit diminshed fair enough through injury but losing does become a habit just like winning and being in a tough division 2 this year i wouldnt be surprised to see them struggle..
Stacks after a slip up in there first co.league game this year look to have things back on track and in my opinion look to be second favourites to crokes to win this competition....a few raised eyebrows maybe but after seeing a poor rahilliys at the weekend its all to play for really...good team that may cause problems this year..
Dingle could come close too good forwards that with decent supply will do damage..wasnt at it but supposedly bullied a killcummin team in there own back yard....albeit a killcumin team that i believe will do very little this year barely stay up in co. league and depending on draw for championship may go down...
Rahilliys didnt look like a team that could represent kerry again this year...were put to the pin of their collar against a fast moving and surprisingly strong legion team who were without james o donoghue...Everytime legion ran at the rahilliys backs they were there for the taking but luck did not fall kindly for legion hitting the post on a couple of occasions.

I attended the legion vs Rahillys game in Direen last saturday. Was an interesting affair with many of the counties young top players coming head to head; [centrel-forward]B.J Keane Vs Johnaton lyne and [full-forward]B.J Walsh Vs Podge O'Connor...it ended up a toss between Lyne or podge for man of the match, both continuously cleaned up in the backs and limiting the 'Narries' two danger men to 3 points from play between them, which was excellent taking into account the quality ball been provided from further out the field. Rahillys went in at half time a point up but were after playing with a strong wind so many felt they were there for the taking. Another talking point from the first half was how Quirke managed to stay on the field of play after continous off the ball incidents and constant harassment of the ref, Peter Lyons. The second half was a dogged affair where Rahillys clocked up a 4 point lead and forced two brilliant stops by keeper Brian Kelly. David Hennessy was also called into action protecting the away sides goal and has both the crossbarr and posts to thank for not conceding 2 or even 3 goals. After hearing about the incident up the country with the ref being struck by the hurley the Narries linesman did not want to be left out done and charged onto the pitch throwing the flag and abusing the ref about another off the ball incident with quirke. Overall a very interesting game where legion were just short on a little firepower to win the game which would have probably been provided by injury prone James O'Donoghue if he had started the game.

i think its a joke that there isnt proper linesmen for club championship games, having fellas from each club doing the line is alrite for league and district board matches(well most of the time)

Podge O Connor mothm - are you serious. The only reason BJW didnt score more was becasue of his poor finishing, I cant remember O Connor beating him out to 1 ball apart from 1 bad ball kicked into to him in the first half. Add in BJW;s poor effort for a goal when he dummied O' Connor (who fell on his behind) and it doesnt seem like O Connor was anywhere near mothm.

Well if KOR only scored 9 points, with star forwards on display, that in my book is a successful defensive performance by the Legion.
The main reason that I'm commenting is the standard of reporting by our media. Crokerman - you said that Quirke was quiet and Denden - you said that he spent the game harrassing the ref. To be honest I take yer word for it. What gets me is that Murt Murphy sent in a report to the Star newspaper saying that Quirke was in fantastic form. That sort of thing - drives me mad - where lads are reporting and they're probably not even at the game. Are the pals or something and he's trying to get him on the Kerry team? I dont know but i am sick of that crap reporting. He might not be the only one but he is the main culprit.

ya i would be disgusted with my team kicking 1-18 too!!! seriously you have to beat what's in front of you...i predict a LR Crokes final if they avoid each other in the semis...not sure when they are liekly to be played though and this is contingent on Crokes beating Stacks this weekend which should be a cracking game...

That Laune Rangers centre back was Jerry Coffey, and he gave the best individual performance I saw all weekend. Paudge O'Connor was excellent for Legion. Barry John Walsh was very sharp and looked like going to town until they moved O'Connor back on him. He did slip at one stage and Barry John did nearly score a goal, but overall O'Connor won some brilliant ball. Score of the game was Jonathon Lyne's point for Legion, but the fact that they only kicked that one point from play tells a lot. For me, Declan Quill was man of the match. Once he moved out to centre forward, his passing opened up the attack and that was when Rahillys pulled clear.

ya should be a cracking match,i think stacks could nick it by a point or two Cant see this happening to be honest....for me crokes are going to run out 7 or 8 point winners!! Cant see them containing Daithi Casey,Kieran Leary,Brian Looney and obviously gooch! John Dennis is probably stacks best man marker he could do a decent job on 1 of the first 3 forwards mentioned but after this they will struggle.................if i heard right Denis McElligott is emigrating before the crokes game..............crokes will be missing Jamie Doolan because he is also emigrating again. IMO i think Rathmore pose the biggest threat this year to the crokes...I was at the Legion game and I think BJW has suffered from a dip in form..they are too vulnerable in defense!

Crokes are streets ahead of the chasing pack at the moment. Jamie emigrating would be a headline disaster for any other club, but he wasn't even nailing a first fifteen jersey for Crokes

What have they won at county level over the last number of years? No county league no county championship no club championship.

Crokes need to the step up to plate this year and put the county championship in the bag on county final day, if they get there. They have enough players at the club to do so but will need everyone playing out of their skins.
West kerry will be the dark horses under Paidi. Paidi has never lost a county championship when he trained the team.

This thread is about the senior club championship not the county championship.
Plenty time for county championship talk later on in the year!

Crokes are streets ahead of the chasing pack at the moment. Jamie emigrating would be a headline disaster for any other club, but he wasn't even nailing a first fifteen jersey for Crokes Yes it would be a disaster for most other clubs but I also think crokes have enough firepower not to miss him in the club championship....however if they have ambitions of winning the county championship they would want to get him back quickly!! On the point of him not nailing down a first fifteen spot..this is totally untrue...jamie told the management that he would not be available for selection until he returned from america and he was going playing soccer until he departed! Jamie did not start last year in the county championship semi final or final because he had just arrived home from the states and the team were winning every game with everyone playing well......now this takes us to a similar point on the KY minor thread....how can u play a player when firstly he was away all summer and had not been training and also change a team that is winning by massive margins....the thing is u cannot because it will disrupt anyone and everyone in the camp....this is the sole reason why jamie was not startin last year! Straight away after county championship Jamie nailed down his spot in the O'Donoghue cup and was man of the match in 2 out of the 3 games he played and gave the final a close shave also!

Dingle 0-15 Kerins O,Rahillys 1-13 Austin Stacks 2-08 Dr. Crokes 2-07 A point deep into injury time gave the Rockies a deserved victory over Crokes who squandered 3 late chances to win the game. Daithi Casey scored both goals for Crokes while Kieran Donaghy was influential with a goal and a huge 45, playing both in forwards and midfield. Never been at a game where both sets of supporters were unanimous in how poor the standard of refereeing was.

It was the U21 thread alright, but at the same time Hugh20 makes a very good point and I will take it on board. Incidentally, emigration is cutting wreck among clubs. I expect that twon teams, with bigger populations to draw replacements from, will have a massive advantage. Other than that, all predictions are a lottery until we know for sure who is or isn't around! Fair play to Stacks. I'm told that Donaghy was fantastic

this result might be a good wake up call for the crokes, second year in a row they have failed in the club c'ship,as for the stacks this result should really drive them on to get out of division 2 and get to the final of the club c'ship.

Dingle 0-15 Kerins O,Rahillys 1-13 This was an excellent game of football and merited a far bigger attendance than it received. This game certainly lived up to it's billing. You could not wish for a better advertisement for good positive football with both teams executing fantastic scores. Dingle were unlucky not to get something from this game but Rahilly's bit of cuteness saw them through. Barry John Walsh was on fire lastnight. He certainly played like a man who had something to prove. He scored 1-4 or 1-5. Dingle persisted with with the same marker and ultimately it was there undoing. BJ Keane played well but Quaid of dingle did a good containing and can be pleased with his efforts. Declan Quill kicked a few wonder scores but John Brosnan kept him in check for most of the game. Dinge did a great job on big Mike Quirke. Dingle's wing back Breandan Kelliher blocked off his run on several occasions and Colm Benny or Dara Sullivan succedded in punching it away from him. It was a tactic that certainly worked well lastnite and I'm sure other teams will take note. Paul Geaney was starved of possession for long spells but he showed his class in the first half when running onto a ball going out towards the corner flag and he swivelled and swung a beauty over on his right foot. This man deserves a look in with the kerry seniors. David geaney was dingle best forward. He scored 3 or 4 frees and scored 3 or 4 from play. He showed great vision in bringing others into play and gave morgan o shea a torrid evening. Mark evans kicked 2 or 3 fine points. Micheal Slattery made a big impression off the bench scoring 2 fine points one in particular after a fine diagonal ball by david geaney. Barry O shea had a cracking match an centre back. He made some great interceptions and made set up many attacks. Finally Dingle had david Devane sent off for with about 3 mins to go. It was an awkward tackle but when you use the closed fist your walking a fine line. John o Connor can count himself very lucky for not being sent off in the first minute of the game when he close lined his opposite marker. if it had happened later in the game he might have received a red. This was the best club game I was at in years. Some of the scores were out of the top drawer from both sides and both sides mixed it with the hard stuff as well. I got great value for my €5
