TIM KENNELLY R.I.P.
“I am deeply saddened and shocked at the sudden and untimely death this afternoon of Tim Kennelly, All-Ireland winning captain 1979 and holder of 5 All-Ireland Senior Football medals, 1975 and four-in-a-row 1978-1981. On the field he was a colossus, off the field he was hugely popular with everyone.
While the people of Kerry will have extreme difficulty coming to terms with the sad news of Tim’s death, our thoughts and prayers are at this time with his wife, Nuala, sons Noel and Tadhg, daughter Joanne, his mother, brothers and sisters.”
Sean Walsh, Chairman, Kerry County Board

Tim Kennelly R.I.P.
06.12.2005
Mr Seán Kelly, President of the G.A.A. has expressed his shock and sadness at the death of Tim Kennelly. Tim won five All Ireland Senior Football medals with Kerry and Captained the team in 1979. The President said that “Tim Kennelly had legendary status in Kerry GAA circles”. “He was amongst the best defenders the County ever had, a man who excelled in a team that included some of the greatest players of all time”. Mr Kelly said that Tim’s duals with Tony Hanahoe of Dublin are etched in the folklore of the GAA and his untimely loss will be mourned right through the Country.
Tim is survived by his wife Nuala, Mother Mague and sons Noel who won a Senior All Ireland medal with Kerry in 2000, Tadhg who won an Australians Rules title with the Sydney Swans Club this year and his daughter Joanne.
Mr Kelly expressed his condolences to Tim’s family and friends on behalf of all the GAA members and supporters.

May i echo the sentiments above; the man was a gent on and off the field; even though beale and listowel are big rivals, there was nothing like sitting down for a pint wit him in O Carrolls;

Legends live forever and Tim's memory will be etched in Kerry people's minds forever. A tough, hard fiercely competitive footballer on the field who was obviously immensely proud of the achievements of his two fine sons and his daughter. All Kerry people will feel like they are losing a friend even though many never knew him. The four in a row team is part of who we all are and it is a very sad day for all Kerry Gaels.

Being from Listowel and next door neighbour to Timmy, I admit I'm finding it hard myself.it was a deep shock to be rang early yeterday and be told the news.
Of course we all remember Tim, the great football legend but I, like many more from Listowel will remember just Timmy the man. The craic we used to have with him down the town. he'd always want to hear the stories from the night before and he'd have his own twist on things.
May he rest in peace.

Just came back here for a quick visit to say RIP to Tim Kennelly ! .......... A big strong, young man !
Like a lot of yourselves, I was a nipper when I used to watch Kerry in the 70's and Kennelly was one of the best !
Thats a very good photo from KerryNorth - shows how close they were !
Very sorry for all the family - Somehow more so for Tadgh - I would imagine that he may be more determined than ever now to win his AI !
Condolences again !

RIP big man. Condolences to his family. 51 is way too young. The GAA should look after their own a bit better after they've retired.

Very sad to hear of the news. Only 51 years old but look at what he squeezed into it. I saw him in the flesh for the 4 in a row. He was like Liam Flaherty and Eamonn Breen rolled into one. I never knew him to talk to etc but obviously he was extremely popular and good fun.
Very sad.

Just want to relay my sympathies to his family and freinds !
Tim was the quintessential North Kerry footballer - Brave, Strong, Hard (but fair), with a big big heart ! Although I did'nt know him, I understand he was a great character and raconteur, which is unsurprising, seeing he comes from Listowel !
Many great memories of opposition attacks perishing on his rock during the golden years come flooding back ! One game that sticks out is the aforementioned 1980 All-Ire final ! Kerry's backs were to the wall against a very physical and dogged Roscommon ! Tim put in a massive performance and Kerry just about pulled through !
RIP
