wow bigmac you are in the minority with that statment, for an armagh man. There is not one Armagh man in New York that would shout for Tyrone. God knows I withnessed it on Sunday night when an all out brawl between the two sides broke out over a game of footabll and you think we are serious about the game!!!!!! Think your wrong on this call, feel its kerry by 4 Ciarrai Abu ah now joan where did i say i'd be shoutin for tyrone .i dont know anybody from here that will be supporting them either,i just expressed an opinion.sundays defeat has been very hard for all in armagh and most of the lads and lassies will be hopin kerry win but i just think the harder more competive games that tyrone have had will be the difference, needless to say i dont expect anybody in kerry to agree with me and most of my perdictions have went pear shaped anyway so maybe thats a good omen for u lot ;D

SOme good points there Bannerman, although I think physically we're as strong as Tyrone.
The high ball won't happen. If it didn't work into Clarke and McDonnell the last day it certainly won't work into our full forwards. Low and fast. We'll see if McMenamin is as good as they claim.

kerry do the high ball every games which drives me crazy. no point in it when we have fast mobile players like gooch and mike frank. gooch has a score to settle after mcmennamin bit him in 2003. but ryan is nothing but a thug did you see him taunting tomas quinn. i hope gooch absolutely deystroys him but i hope the linesmaen and umpires keep an eye on ryan also as he will take digs at gooch at every chance he gets

In the interview in The Irish Times last Saturday with Tom Humphries, the Armagh physical coach (name escapes me - bigmac, you might know) said that Kerry are now bigger in the upper body section muscle wise and are well able for physical interaction. It's what most coaches think and what Pat Flanagan was aiming for within two years of taking over - fast (we're lightening fast) but able to use that pace with upper body strenght to burst through tackles. We have both. We're able for the physical confrontation.

Yep.. Agree that the Kerry team will more than a match for Tyrone physically... You know people say of this Kerry team. They havent been tested... How will they react win it counts?.etc. The fact is actually we are all not sure about that as they havent been tested in the past seriously since JOC came in. We found out early though that this team has been hurt so so badly in Croker by a few teams and have taken massive precautions and put in a collossal effort to ensure that they wont be bullied about by teams anymore. The whole point of the last two years training were to equip themselves with the necessary ammunition (if there is a better word) for the likes of Tyrone and Armagh who lets face did pull ahead for a while..(especially physically). This Kerry team has a serious edge to them when combined with their sheer skills and strength should give Tyrone more than they expect. Sure this team hasnt been seriously tested.. but they have the prep done for a challenge like the one the Final will be.. Its going to be tense, fast... space at a premium stuff. Time to show the world that Kerry really are the Kingpins of Gaelic. Surely nobody will deny them that if they beat Tyrone in the Final..

We're lucky that Galvin came in and did what he did against Mayo. Him coming back into form is a massive boost. Himself Hasset and Brosnan will "break the ice" with the Tyrone half backs.

Himself Hasset and Brosnan will "break the ice" with the Tyrone half backs. should i read between the lines with that comment kerryman The main danger against Cork was Lynch being a running half back .. he won them the game against Galway. We put Brosnan on Lynch to clamp down on forward runs. When Brosnan got the yellow (but quitened Lynch in the process) we put Declan O Sullivan on Lynch, just in case he got any ideas. The 2 half forward/back lines on both sides are where this game will be won and lost.

Still find it very strange to hear people call Tyrone a big physical side. I think we have 2-3 outfield players over 6 foot and we dont have any tanks of men such as some of the players that armagh have. what we do have is a very good work rate and we play at the same intensity for 70-75 minutes. rarely will you see one of our players 'melt' someone with a shoulder. We had the same players in 2002 and 2003 yet in 02 we were small, not strong enough, never to win an AI and then in 03 we were somehow transformed into a physical side.
I think sunday two weeks will test out both managers as much as the players. This game could well be won on the sideline on the day of the match and in the weeks leading up to the game. What kind of game plan will the teams deploy? Will we see either manager change a winning formula and adopt a different style on the day. Mickey Harte said that no one team has one particular style. You be cant be a slave to one style or else the opposition will find you out and will be able to stop you playing. You'll need a style A, B and C and be able to vary this throughout the year and throughout the game.
Both teams left have undoubtedly the best footballers about, but the final will still be a cagey affair. And it could well be down to who wants to win it the most. Kerry will want to win to give the 'two fingers' at those who said last years AI was won not having beat a Northern side (although I reckon they couldn't care less who they beat as long as they win) and Tyrone will want to win after 9 games and a tough 2 years. Interesting stuff altogether.

phpearse, I'd say there's a mix up between big&physical and intensity alright. However it is common to see Tyrone players stopping the opposition from playing by dare I say it fair or foul means. For example Several Armagh players were blocked coming out of defence and prevented from launching attacks. This is at times quite cynical and calculated. Don't get me wrong we're no angels either but I do think that that is part of why Tyrone are perceived in a certain manner. You don't need to be big to do this. Did I mention ye're a pack of thugs? Kidding! Kidding!

Coming back to your comments there PH about the variety of styles, Kerry don't have one set option. If you look back on 2004, we played a different style of game in the Limerick games, to that in the Dublin and Derry games which was different again to that in the Mayo game. That's why I was slightly confident last year that we could do the double - that Jack doesn't have one style, he gets the team to go and play a plan that is made to beat the team in front of them. The beauty of all this is that Mickey Harte doesn't know exactly what Jack is planning and how to build a plan for his team around it.

Neutrals be warned. Leave those tickets for the competing counties. It will be another boring one sided match. Tyrone to be blown away just like Mayo and Cork. Kerry by 7 points+. Paul Galvin to be MOTM.

In 1991 Meath played Dublin four times, won the leinster and beat Roscommon in the semi. There was another draw along the way as far as I can recall. They were beaten by a much fresher Down in a marvellous final.
1998, Kildare beat Dublin after a replay, beat Meath after a replay and beat kerry by a point in the semi. In doing so they beat the champions of 1995, 1996 and 1997. In the final a much fresher galway team beat them.
Tyrone have had a tough route to the final having been careless against Cavan in the drawn game, Armagh in the drawn Ulster final and in the drawn game against Dublin.
Kerry should have the legs on them in the crucial last 20 minutes and I feel quitely confident that kerry will win.

2000, Kerry draw with Armagh and replay goes to extra time before victory. In the final replay Kerry beat a much fresher Galway team. You just never know.....

Can't see that happening. He played well last year but no where near being MOTM. I would love to see Eamonn Fitz getting a good run. I feel he has been done by on the Kerry Panel. He deserved more than five mins for the Cork match.

Is this 1986 revisited? Kerry & Cork beat Tyrone & Galway in 1986. Cork have beaten Galway in 2005, so now it's our turn to ensure a repeat result. That said I think Cork had it easier than we will have it against Tyrone

I would not mind seeing Tomas O Sé at midfield, in direct opposition to Sean Cavanagh. Tyrone will more than likely play with 5 forwards. So we could employ Dara O Sé in a sweeping role. I would keep our half forward line intact and replace Bryan Sheehan with Mike Frank, with Declan O Sullivan coming deep to fourage for possession. Tyrone will probably employ an extra man in front of Gooch, but all our forwards are capable of scoring from distance and I believe we can still bring Gooch into the game by constant movement up front.

I don't think the final is the time to tinker with the best back 6 in the country. Midfield, Daragh and Kirby will have to stay as is. We'll just have to crowd Kavanagh out of it. Can't see us starting without a free taker either. Not against Tyrone. With Ryan Mc. we'll need to have a free-taker on top form. Either Cinneide or Sheehan, but not Mike Frank. Remember that tapover he missed in the Munster final.

Agree completely Kerryman - spot on there. Suspect Seamus will just have to defend his patch against Cavanagh coming down the middle - Tomas is more than capable if he comes at him down his wing, and if Aidan or Marc are on him, they've the pace to keep with him.

Cinneide, has lived on his free taking reputation for far too long. I am confident that Gooch Mike Frank and if necessary Declan are more than capable of converting the frees. I take your point with regard to breaking up the defence, but Cavanaghs surging runs scare me, we will just have to stop him 'by Hook or by Crook' before he takes off.

What evidence do we have that anybody bar O'Cinnaide or Sheehan can take frees with a certain amount of confidence?

Cinneide to start.
If its not working MFR will be a fine replacement to bring in. Would be more confident seeing Cinneide start and be replaced IF he isnt doing the business than MFR starting. The big question is how is Cinneide doing in training? If he is getting lots of free taking practice and is free of all niggling injuries then he will be a definate starter..

Can't see JOC making any sort of dramatic changes to his team for the final. Joe Kernan did that in 2003 and made wholesale changes to the side that faced Tyrone and only proceeded in making the players confused. While both teams will study the opposition I think both will go out and play their own game.
I remember playing in a county semi final 8 years ago playing against a 'town' team. We beat them well in the end but a few days after the game I was chatting to one of their players and he was saying that we had taken them by surprise by playing good football. We had a reputation for being a hard physical side and the Omagh boys were expecting us to 'saften them up a bit' in the first half, instead we led by 9 points a half time, playing good football. Moral of this story is don't be expecting a pulling a dragging match from Tyrone, its not our style.
I think the closest game we could gauge this one on would be the Kerry Limerick games last year. Paul Galvin is a great addition to your side. Strong, a good link man and can tackle. However there may be a slight question mark over his temperament. He'll definitely get stuck in and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him pick up a card or two.
Read in this mornings Irish News that we have a full panel at training. McGinley is back earlier than expected and so too is Ciaran Gourley after damaging knee ligaments at the start of the year. I believe the only two we don't have available from 03 is McAnallen and Hughes.
No tickets are being distributed until next Thursday which seems mad as the clubs have their ticket allocation today. They must be waiting until 2nd and 3rd allocations to see their final numbers before deciding who doesn't get any.

i dont think you need to 'crowd out' cavanagh. If he was a great fielder you might but his strenght is running at pace so he just has to be watched and marked tightly when tyrone have the ball.
