I think Cork's pace told with the open space with 3 men off and Kerry missing most of their speedy backs.

Lost by 3.
Plusses:
BJ Keane D O Callaghan Mahoney looks to be improving Midfield much improved Star flying
Negatives: The sending off losing to langers losing with an extra man Morans lack of any form. baffling.

Time to make room in Division 2. That was a very average performance especially against 13 players. Disappointing to say the least.

Lads relax will ye.
To be honest I was encouraged enough by that performance. Cork have alot more training done than our boys and the extra man didnt really matter when they had the extra pace and stamina to just run with the ball. They showed plenty fight especially the lads that came on. Moran only had his first training of the year on wednesday or thursday so I wouldnt be giving out about him at all. I would say it was a strange call by the management to bring him in but maybe they thought it would work.
Talks of Division 2 are very very premature. I would think Galvins thing will be overturned. A couple of weeks off before the next game will bring us on alot. I think we should aim to win our remaining home games and if we pick up something on the road then great.

I'd agree with a lot of what you said kerrylad but I'm not so sure Galvin will get off. He may get the red card overturned but might get suspended for attempting to strike when he took a swing earlier. Donaghy may also get suspended after trading slaps with Ger Spillane going by what happened after the Derry Tyrone game last week. One thing I was disappointed in today was that Kerry didn't get a goal. They had plenty of chances but seemed reluctant to go for goal. That's a bad habit to be getting in to.

Talk of Division 2 is premature is it. Kerry have 5 matches left and to be certain of remaining in Division 1 a total of 8 points will be required. Which matches will the points be gained in considering that Tyrone, Monaghan, Galway, Derry and Mayo have to be played?

Disappointing to lose to Cork but the extra space by the three fewer players offset the extra man advanatage. Star and BJ Keane particularly impressed. Quirke and Scanlon won good ball but don't look fit. Mahony did better but he could have drove forward a bit more I thought. The full back line gave their men a lot of space. None of the back six from last year will be overly concerned about the competition.

I think we will win all the home matches anyway so that will be 6. We weren't far off winning tonight just that fitness and sharpness were abit off. 3 weeks off until the next game and training will bring us on alot. I think we're well capable as we showed tonight of picking something up in Galway or Tyrone.
If we get relegated to Division 2 so be it but personally I think that 2 games into the campaign is abit early to be writing the obituaries of these lads.
Tonight was a positive performance in the main. There was an awful stage last year around the time of Longford and Sligo games (take a look back at those match threads) when the lads on the team were getting slated left right and centre and alot of it was unjust critisism and over the top. But come September then the sun was shining out of their holes and they were the greatest things ever. The fact is that they are a wonderful bunch of lads for the last 10 years who have brought great pride to our little county.Give them a chance to settle into this season and get abit of fitness up before this mentality starts again is all i'm saying

Anyway back to the match.
Thought Brendan done well in goals. Nice stop from Goulding in the second.
Reidy improved from last week (outside getting caught asleep for the goal), Mahoney aswel to be honest. Thought the other lads werent up to the sharpness of Goulding and Kerrigan.
Midfield done well. Big improvement from last week
Star really led the line. Lads were too far from him when he landed though.Strange call to bring him out the pitch in the last ten minutes. Though BJ Walsh had a good first half but faded in the second. Donnacha was ok. Fitness and running is his game and he hasnt quite got it fully at the minute but 3 weeks at training will have him back a nice bit.Declan wasnt really too influencial. Injury and fitness probably hampered him. Galvin wasnt around long enough to be counted. Paul Connor wasnt involved at all.
BJ Walsh and David Calla done well and looked busy. James done alright aswel. Moran was non existent really but wouldn't blame him for that. Leary wasnt on long enough to be rated really

Cork have very little collective training done. They did not go on hols til early Jan and went for 2 weeks.|They were back a week later than us. Took part in no Mcgrath Cup. They were missing loads tonite and 13 of them still beat us. Goulding looked some player tonite. His ball control was immense. Really feared for Aidan O Mahony but thought he did ok. Barry John Keane did very well. Thought at one stage we might get a draw. Still feel we will improve for the next game.

Happy enough with what I saw this evening. I think cork still have problems in their forward line that will still make them vulnerable despite their mobility and strong defence.Kerry faded in midfield towards the end and cork got a few vital scores.
Donaghy was excellent as was quirks for 60mins young was very effective also. Really think Paul O Connor has had enough chances in the Kerry jersey at this stage. One or two of the subs made an impression when they came on, however, I will reserve judgement as a lot of their good work came from ball that was loose or won for them. Winning your own ball is what it's all about and all 3 of our forward subs look a bit light to me. I was very disappointed with Donncha Walsh's contribution.he fails to impose himself on the game, he has lots of experience at this stage and I thought he would have been more prominent.
Adrian o connell did ok, goulding was difficult for anyone who marked him. He will have learned a lot and needs to be able to burst out with the ball and break a tackle. That will come with experience. O Mahony's form was much better tonight I was quite impressed,I thought he played his best game in green and gold for some time.
I felt sorry for poor Galvin, Jesus the cork crowd hate him every time he touched the ball he was booed. Didn't see how it was a straight red.Declan was lucky to stay on the pitch as was Nicholas Murphy.
Brendan Kealy was good tonight, safe under the high ball. Good kick outs and made a couple of good saves.
I thought we would be destroyed to be honest. We were competitive right to the end. We will come on a lot for the game. Jack, I reckon will be happy enough, we don't need to defend our league title this year. We need to find a few players and hope that we can be in Croke Park when it matters. It's a long way till August/September. Nothing I saw tonight made me feel that Cork are the invincible coming force that some think they are.
The fist pass rule change ruined the game tonight. It was most frustrating to watch good movements on either side being blown up for handpasses. Ridiculous rule change

This wasnt one of Jacks greatest nights on the sideline. To beat Cork all that was needed was to put the extra man on Daniel Gouling.
Positives; Both Barry Johns are made of the right stuff So is James O Donoghue but he must learn that there is little time for fancy stuff on the ball at this level Keeper looked sound Donaghy is unstoppable if giuven the right service
Negatives Scanlon will be lost if the handpass of old is done away with. He looks ill at ease adapting to the fist pass. Galvins reputation will get him a red when a yellow is called for Paul O'Connor is either off form or afraid to get stuck in David Moran is not yet fit
Where did this lad O Callaghan come from?
What age is he and what club is he with

Mickmack, To be fair to Moran he has been injured, he had a bit of a nightmare tonight but I think it would be unfair to judge him on that performance tonight. As for Paul O Connor, I think you are spot on about him being afraid to get stuck in.

Heading northward tomorrow morning somewhat despondent. I can't remember how long it is since I witnessed two consecutive Kerry defeats.
And yet...
Its only the league
Its early days yet.
We have been improving in each game While the old hands were more prominent in the Dublin match we are seeing the emergence of some new talent - the two BJs, Kealy and David O'Callaghan (where did he come from?)
On the minus side PG needs to return to the anger management course that stood him in good stead last year because refs will show him no mercy from now on and we had better turn the improving form into some wins as I don't fancy Division 2 next year. all the teams left to play can and/or have beaten us in the League (the Championship is another matter)
Still, for the time being at least, I remain a "glass half full" man

David O'Callaghan has been one of the top young forwards in the county for the last number of years. plays with St.Pats in Blennerville. Was a member of the u21 All Ireland winning squad. Been doing the business with UCC aswel for the last few years. Been in with Kerry Seniors at various trainings on and off for about 2 years now. Injurys have held him back from making the breakthrough before tonight but he's a fine player.
